Dziewczyna i kosmonauta (2023)
A bit of a slow start but it gets going well!
The first episode seemed a bit boring so I almost switched off. The music and the photography kept on it and O found myself drawn back in.
More drama than SF as others have noted. Two guys, one girl and two time periods. The two guys are fighter pilots and incredibly competitive but are best friends, some of the time and the girl dances between the two. There are some plot holes but it is far from the worst I have seen.
The Russian subplot was a bit strange but it added a bit of colour although some of the acting there gets a bit overdone but the rest is ok and Nadia was good. The pilots are written a bit like two teenagers at times and you wonder why their characters have F16s to play with at work. On the other had: Top Gun and The Right Stuff.
Overall it looked pretty good. Some are critical of Future Warsaw looking too similar, especially the clothes. I felt that the changes were pretty good. It.was a bit too lucky how things worked so well when left for thirty years.
The ending is open but not necessarily a bad ting.
13 Hours That Saved Britain (2010)
Could do much better
A lot of recycled footage from "The Battle of Britain" movie which is now quite old. Historically that material was pretty good but unfortunately they forgot to mention the Americans and Commonwealth pilots, let alone the poles. Even the original BoB movie featured Christopher Plummer with Canadian colours as well as the French and others.
My impression looking at how it was advertised was that we would see more on the management which was something special. Unfortunately, we only got the basics. The people who were interi added some colour but little information as they were.mostly children at the time.
Where were the Germans or indeed other adults from the time (I now that most would have passed but I'm sure there is footage on file)?
Guilt (2016)
The stars are for Billy Zane
This is a Hollywood story taken to the UK. Unfortunately without any knowledge of the UK police and legal system. it looks very beautiful, the police and the prosecution look great just totally unrealistic. It just isn't the UK. Molly the accused comes over as so naive and stupid, it does rather make me wonder how she gets up in the morning.
I liked Billy Zane though. He did not speak the words of a British barrister nor act like one in court but his character was one of the few that engaged with me (even if he couldn't be taken seriously).
Richard the Lionheart (2013)
Weird but still watchable
Okay this is a low budget film and certainly a bit weird but it still has dome merit. The premise is fairly simple with Richard as a wastrel being sent by his father, Henry II (played by Malcolm McDowell) to be toughened up with three torments (ordeals) by the Selector played by Stewart Arnold.
We are introduced to the Moor who befriends/helps him and the ordeals begin. Yes, it is noted that we never see more than a handful of nights at any time (armour is expensive) but the story proceeds. The fantastical elements are frankly, a bit tacky, but the rest of the story seems to hang together in a way.
The current score on IMDb (2.8) does not do it justice. Perhaps this is because it has more of a European/Foreign Language feel to it but it isn't a great film. There is significantly worse around rated higher.
I would say that the film is *not* worth while going out of your way to see but you do not have to run screaming from the venue.
