Taranath Tantrik (2019)
Plain Horrible
Giving it 3 stars only for Kaushik who sort of held it together till the abhirbhab of the so called 'Madhusundori' Debi.....who not only poured cold water on the good work of other actors but made me want to shoot myself for watching that episode and probably the rest of the series...
Ghost Stories (2020)
Dibarkar's segment is a must-watch while Zoya & Anurag's segments are interesting
For the first time in my life, I realised that a horror movie can serve as a medium of conveying an important message. I normally watch only critically acclaimed horror movies that can stand the test of time (e.g. The Ring, The Conjuring, Orphan etc.) and dismiss them (from my mind) once I'm done watching. Having watch Ghost Stories , esp. Segment 3 , changed the experience totally. Halfway through Dibarkar's segment I was like....What the...?? and then the ending left me speechless. Thouroughly enjoyed watching Segments 1 & 2 by Zoya & Anurag. However, Segment 4 made me cringe & want to shoot myself for watching it...the saving grace were the first three segments which made the movie earn a '6' from me
Vinci Da (2019)
Srijit delivers.....loved it
A different kind of storyline......wonderful performances by well-established actors. Srijit has taught us to expect more and more and more.......so was a little disappointed with the ending.....
Dwitiyo Purush (2020)
A very good regional (Bengali) movie
It was overall a good movie, with flawed storyline and directional gaps. Great Bengali movie, all the same. Loved the twist ending. Love Param, but some scenes (dark ones) required a little more convincing.....
Chotushkone (2014)
A captivating movie that packs a punch and yet disappoints
I would've liked to rate this movie a '6.5', but unfortunately IMDb did not let me to do that, so in the end I decided to settle for six stars. The six stars are for the fact that the film had great potential to be an excellent one that leaves a lasting impression on the minds of the audiences deserving a whooping 7.5 stars , but somehow this one quite missed the mark, though not completely, and ended up being just about above average.
Watching "Chotushkone" was deja vu in terms of my viewing experience for some of Srijit Mukherjee's other, widely acclaimed works like "Autograph" and "Jaatishwaar"- all well-executed plots with glaringly obvious loopholes that are rather hard to fathom and harder to digest, especially coming from a filmmaker of Mukherjee's caliber.
All in all, a project well executed, with all the required ingredients for greatness like commendable performances, good music, a suspenseful plot with a twist ending that moves at an adequate pace to be able to cast its spell on its viewers and leave an impression. However, specific sequences of the film, especially towards the end are boiler plate, watered down versions that leave a lot to be desired. Like they say, the devil is really in the details.
