Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Did Disney even plan this one?
I feel Disney have been doing pretty good lately with their new stories. But my goodness this is just a total mess. Firstly, the animation is fantastic and beautiful as always and they do some good design in the world and make some cool characters, that's where the positives end though.
The whole film feels like the wrote one story, then watched it and decided to cut and paste things together, or add things in. There is absolutely no flow or consistency. To me, the motives of the characters just don't seem fully thought through and make little to no sense.
I feel this film was incredibly rushed and many aspects are only there to sell some merch for Disney.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Overly harsh reviews attacking what is a fun film
It was always going to be difficult to follow the original which was a well thought out, planned story with fantastic comedy and just made you feel good.
I've got to say, the story that they were going for here has potential, but I think they got lost somewhere in the middle and the plot feels to advance somewhat unnaturally. On top of this, some characters felt a little forced and just weren't needed which could have allowed more time for nostalgia trips. Having said that, I very much enjoyed the start and I feel the ending was a really great celebration of the film and cast and ultimately just felt like everyone was having a fun time which made me have fun too. Its definitely not the perfect film, but it has some great nostalgia, brings back some fantastic characters, I was definitely laughing and at the end of it and I think the actors did a really good job.
So, definitely not as good as the first, but it's a fun, easy watching film which has some good laughs and really celebrates the original and its cast.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
An incredibly enjoyable film!
Episode VIII is very enjoyable. It is the type of film you could easily go back to any time, sit down and watch and easily binge watch in a marathon (the way star wars are meant to be watched).
Im not going to deny it, some parts of the story line leave a bit to be desired, some acting too is a tad weak in areas and just doesnt feel as genuine as it could. There are characters in this film which just pop up, have next to no development and are suddenly part of the mix and the film acts like we should relate to their feelings. But realistically none of that matters.
I have grown up loving the star wars films for what they are and what they are is a great Sci-Fi action movie franchise that makes you imagine and smile and this film does all of those things. I laughed, I sat on the edge of my seat, i jumped and I felt like it was real. This film has great battles, fights, scenes, graphics, tension, sound, music, characters and 100% adds something to the franchise as a whole.
I have read about 15 other reviews and they all come back to one thing - its not like star wars used to be. Well im sorry, but times changes and so should the story line of star wars, new concepts have been introduced in this film and its no longer as black and white and previous episodes. All the main ingredients are still there, just put together in a different way and I loved it. Also - dont forget this is the middle episode of three, therefore a lot of the strange story developments in this, im sure will make sense in episode IX.
If you love Stars Wars for what it is in itself unique universe or if you want to watch an absolutely brilliant film, with blasters, aliens, lightsabers and some weird force thing that lifts rocks. Watch. This. Film. Its great. I will be watching it again and again, many years to come.
Spectre (2015)
Putting It Right
Although I have seen a fair amount of reviews that are very fitting to the film, I have also seen a reasonable amount of reviews which describe this film as nothing short of an utter disaster and I am here to right this wrong. There is absolutely nothing about this film with makes it terrible and I fear that anyway who writes such reviews either went in with incredibly high expectations or has never seen a Bond film before and didn't understand what was going on.
First of all, I would like to point out that I am a Bond fan myself. I have watched every film, since the beginning, multiple times. However, I'm not a die hard loyalist and can see the movies faults.
The film has a somewhat complex story line which sort of relies on you watching Casino Royale, Quantum and Skyfall. With out this, you wont quite understand Bonds decisions and especially the big one at the end. This film is a very personal insight into the life of Bond, with plenty of action put on the side.
To break it down simply. The actions scenes in this film are nothing short of very exciting, although i do feel that some could of been dragged out a little longer (not often that people say that). The story line, providing you've watched previous Craig Bond films, is brilliant and something you can really stick your teeth into. The 'Bond girls' are great and there is even less 'hot' scenes in this film that Skyfall. Bond was dirtier in the old days, thats for sure. The cars are magnificent. The bad guys are portrayed brilliant with nothing sort of a great job casting. The car chase in this film is brilliant and this film even has some of that classic Bond comedy from the older films, which i loved.
Overall, if you're looking for a fun loving action flick, i don't think this is it. This is a deep film and one that I think Bond fans will enjoy. The only thing i hate in this film, as a Bond fan, is the opening title sequence (its far too slow). And also, some parts of the story seemed to of been left unfinished and now i feel like I've missed something. I will definitely watch this film again!
