Carving a Life (2017)
Heartfelt Indie!
Carving A Life tells the messy, yet authentic story of a relationship challenged by alcoholism. Told over the course of many years, we track this marriage through its ups and downs, and form close bonds to the charismatic leads. Great soundtrack and editing as well!
Silent Panic (2018)
The aftermath of a crime...
This film opens with an interesting premise - three guys return to their car to discover a dead body. What's unique about this story is that instead of building up to the crime, we spend our time dealing with the after math of it, and how it effects the characters. Silent Panic is a fitting title, as these guys must then reintegrate into their lives while harboring a secret and searching for solutions.
The Mentor (2020)
A meta, genre blending indie!
I loved that this film was listed as both a comedy and thriller. I think genre blends keep films fresh, fun and unpredictable. It transforms a traditional subject matter into something subversive and exciting. This film was also about filmmaking and offered a meta look at the subject matter, which was educational and thought provoking. Although it's an indie film it had a high production value and the two female leads do a great job.
Vampire Burt's Serenade (2020)
Campy, bloody fun!
There's plenty to love in this theatrical, campy, raunchy vampire musical. Despite being low budget this film has a great cast full of unexpected yet familiar faces. You never know exactly where it's headed but it's a fun ride with tons of great original music.
Turnover (2019)
A feel good, well made indie!
You immediately settle into this film during the opening sequence, which is beautifully shot and scored. The movie does a good job creating a feel good tone, while also quickly establishing conflict and capturing the strange dynamics of this charming small town. The film features a talented ensemble cast, who all feel real and relatable. I applaud the director's diverse casting choices, and Paul Guilfoyle does a terrific job in his lead role.
Ab Negative (2019)
well done action, sci-fi indie
From the beginning of this film you're drawn into the relationship between the two brothers. It's clear we're in some futuristic, dystopic world, but the film feels pretty timely, unfortunately. The premise is rife for all sorts of drama, action and emotion, the fight scenes are well done, and the film is shot in a beautiful location.
Call for Dreams (2018)
A visual feast!
If you think the poster looks cool wait until you see every mind blowing frame of this film. Although it's an indie the quality of the cinematography and acting are on a higher level than most Hollywood blockbusters. Call For Dreams takes you on a psychologically captivating journey, set in a fascinating location.
Curry Munchers (2011)
Sweet indie find!
I really enjoyed this film. Although it's indie it doesn't feel amateur - it's genuine, full of heart and filled with authentic characters. The characters are not only funny, but also have a good sense of humor towards one another and give you the feeling like you're in on the joke.
The Unearthing (2015)
A fun adventure for the whole family!
This coming of age story evokes the magical books I used to read as a child, or the older Disney Channel adventure films. The characters were well developed and the score and cinematography were well used as world building tools.
