It's not as bad as people make it out to be...

Big fan of the show who HATED the movies, but the first episode of this didn't evoke any sort of cringe or hate like all others are describing.... it was actually interesting to watch, and so sad what happens at the end of the first episode.

The Patsy (1928)

Magical.
2 February 2012
Simply magnificent. This film embodies everything that is grand about silent films; It's touching, warm, cute, funny, and all without the need to rely on cheap, vulgar, dirty humor. The character's personalities come out shining through immediately, a simple gesture, a look, a movement of their hands or bodies is all that is needed to define them. Marion Davis, as Patsy, simply incredible, showing vulnerability, innocence, silliness, and wit. Her mother and sister, simply contemptible, wretched characters, but amusing, particularly the mother.

There's a lot of magic in silent films, magic that often gets lost with dialogue, a language that is universal, it transcends race, sex, time. The subtleness of a movement, of an expression on a face, conveys more emotions than one piece of dialogue ever could.

Highly recommended for even those that are intimidated by silent films. Good silent films, like this one, draw one in and make one forget that one is watching a silent film.

Give silent films a chance.

Consumerist Obsessed tripe ***might contain spoiler***
31 October 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is coming from a huge fan of the show... Seen the whole series from beginning to end many times... and I could tell how the magic of the show got lost in the translation from the small screen to the big screen... First of all, the film makers somehow decided that it was best to flood the film with tons of product placement, expensive jewelry, cars, locations and clothes... the whole film seemed like a fashion show, with a little thin plot attached to it... A plethora of consumerism... How can anyone care for this characters in this film when they are flooded with all this garbage? I've seen single episodes in the series that have more depth, invoke greater feeling and get across more meaningful messages in less than thirty minutes than this extravagant, consumerism obsessed film did in more than two hours... Sure, it's nice to see it on the big screen, but it doesn't mean that it's not what it is... a bastardization of the original product; a product that has been bought by companies to parade their product on these mannequins (characters if you can call them that anymore) that are parodies of their former selves... And the whole plot is just plain ludicrous... This Big character comes across as a wimp that gets scared at the last minute... that's so out of character and so childish.... and then adding characters that practically do nothing for the film, like Jennifer Hudson's Louise.... A waste of time and waste of space that could have been given to a recurring character from the series.. Maybe it would have helped if more writers had been attached to it, rather than leaving only MPK to embark on a huge film like this on his own..

This is a complete rehash of CANAVERAL DE PASIONES...from the plot line to most of the characters... Canaveral is a much greater novela with better acting, scenery, direction and dialogue... How can this novela be out on DVD, but classics like CANAVERAL be kept hidden away...? Why is it that they release all the awful novelas on DVD and keep the true gems from the public?

El Manantial had some interesting scenes and most of those were from the original, Canaveral... there's something about it that I don't like... maybe because i've seen the TRUE ORIGINAL and this cheap version doesn't do anything for me...
