Raiders of the Damned (2007)
Damned awful!!!!
Anything really that makes you presume this film is anything better than the reviews its given is false. I've never witnessed a crappier film in my life and I've seen Windfall. I know its working on a limited budget and it shows but if this is true don't make a film using so many poor special effects and rubbish acting , better yet Don't MAKE THE FILM !!!.
My assumption of zombies and any assumption of zombies made in any other film is shot down by the intelligent ones in this film, who don't even seem like zombies , just humans with really bad rashes. I don't claim to be the expert on zombies but I'm adamant that they were never meant to be intelligent or in the case of Land of the Dead only primitive levels of intelligence.
In my eyes this film is a disgrace and should never have been made , especially when you compare it to other films. Its not even good for people who like small studio films, it fails on nearly every attempt , the acting is either hollow or over acted , no one strikes a balance. I couldn't believe how i watched it , in fact i didn't even bother to see the end as I refused to surrender more minutes of my life towards a nonsensical storyline that just seemed to drag on and on.
Only my passion for hating this film made me write this and i feel it is my duty to steer you away from it. Don't try and watch this film thinking that maybe it will be funny crap and you can have a laugh at it , the action is slow moving and just poor. Only a ridiculous amount of drugs and alcohol could possibly make this film entertaining.
Avoid this film like the plague , or be DAMNED FOR ALL ETERNITY ! (or at least for however it runs for)
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Decent Re-make ?? surely .. it cant be ??
It is ! I've got to admit i wasn't too optimistic , the trailer made it look like another lets go get the teen audience but it didn't at all. The start sequence with Johnny Cash playing and all the chaos ensuing made for a fantastic contrast. The references to the original film were few not too many but well placed and spaced out for optimum effect. The film though had plenty of action but also took on the more emotional aspects of the crisis well like a daughter seeing her own father become a zombie. Ving does play a rather cliché character for him but he does it well and the indirectly becomes rather attached to the group .
To be fair its not an amazing film but its a really good re make, the T.V clips showing Humanity trying to deal with the problem and those with the solution being ignored show the total desperation of the situation.
The Richard Cheeseman cover of Down with the Sickness by Disturbed was brilliant and gave the audience a startling realisation - whilst we laughed at the gay church organ player putting on high heels - they are surrounded by zombies who are intent on killing them.
Its simply a well shot film , the actors play their parts well and whilst many will simply dismiss it as another re make I actually think parts of it are far less camp than the original. Better effects , t,v reports particularly by Ken Foree , from the original is brilliantly spoken and quite bone chilling and controversial, make this film what it is - a great piece of work that wont live in the Hall of Fame but should at least earn its credit as a thoroughly good film -especially when you see the ending a great way to end it for me !
Batman Begins (2005)
The best Batman film of them all !
When i first heard of Batman begins I wasn't sure what to expect but upon seeing the trailer I knew this was going to be very different film compared to all the other films which I personally didn't like at all. Batman , Batman Returns ,Batman Forever , Batmand and Robin all for me where too camp and the dark edge of Batman was lost , although Jack Nicholsons performance as the Joker was legendary , the films still were far too jokey.
But Batman begins truly is a lot darker and in my eyes , a film that puts the others too shame. Here his relationship with his father is much more emphasised and when his parents are murdered, the tragedy of the act truly hits you and therefore his decline into self loathing and hatred of his parents murderer can be emphasised with. His lack of purpose and annoyance of the fact he can do nothing to stop evil is brilliantly portrayed by Bale who seems to have been brilliantly casted for the role.
The fight scenes are brilliantly done , in both the training scenes and the fights in Gotham. The film in general is brilliantly done , it surpasses any preconceptions of another Batman Forever. The film is definitely the best of all the films . Batman begins is definitely one of the best films of the year, its explanation of Batman's beginning adds a another to the dimension of Batman, his family ties are shown and this enables the audience to emphasise with the young child. The performances of Michael Caine, Liam Neeson Morgan Freeman,Gary Oldman where excellent as usual and Cillian Murphy as Cane were brilliantly evil .
