Black Mass (2015)
6/10
Comprised of spectacular performances, Johnny Depp and Co. carry this run-of-the-mill B list Mob movie to relevance.
17 September 2015
Encompassed with episodic rhythm and an awfully conventional format, Scott Cooper mutates a story of rich soil capable of greatness to a detaching and routine crime film. Black Mass grasps only on the superficial layer as it focuses solely on documented events of the crime they organized. Due to this, the movie suffers as it seems to be merely a biography- laying out these horrific events in these specified timeframes but not putting any focus on the characters that performed it. All action, but none of the story that happens between that allows the audience to view who they are and what they're like. Black Mass fails to delve deeper into the roots, and this of course limits the scope of all the actors. Great mob cinematography such as The Godfather, Goodfellas, and the Sopranos- all of these were so great because they allowed the audience to see what the characters were like when they weren't shooting, beating, or plotting against people.

That being said, in their limited boxes boy do these actors put on a show. Led by Johnny Depp and Joel Edgerton, the audience can tell straight from the start that this cast reveled and lived their roles. With the amount of overwhelming, heinous events; the film had to have someone cold-hearted and sleazy, and woah did these actors become the epitome of that. However, due to this heavily limited character, the only "rise" the audience feels are from the bone-chilling actions that these men did. Black Mass fails to captivate. And when the closing credits roll a feeling of disappointment washes over you, as it feels like you just watched an episode on the ID channel with really, really good actors.

Game of Thrones: Mother's Mercy (2015)
Season 5, Episode 10
1/10
The Damnation of Game of Thrones (for now)
15 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Well, I think we all know that this finale was the weakest out of them all. Heck- I even disliked it. This grand finale left a deep gaping feeling in my stomach, people seemingly dying left to right I couldn't keep up. It seemed like the season's pace was so slow (with all these filler episodes) that they just threw in all these tragedies at the end to create some remembrance of the season. It seems like they tried to overdo it so much- that the whole episode felt so empty with the most excruciating and crucial events. Sounds like a paradox, right? All of my favorites, the people that g.o.t. fans CHEERED for throughout the show (particularly the Stark family, they *need* revenge) died. Every single one of them. However, this BloodBath shock wasn't similar to the one with Ned Stark's execution, to the ultimate betrayal of the slaughterhouse wedding. No, this one didn't leave your jaw to the ground in absolute awe- leaving you to process what just happened, this finale left you just shaking your head saying "C'mon man, this is some bull****. The Theon and Sansa suicide wasn't that traumatic, Theon's storyline drew to long and even with his last "heroics" we've been wanting him to end for quite some time. Weeding that out, we get to what these developers deem "shock value" and they get to heavy-handed with it. Stannis, potentially Arya (I thought she was going to transform into an amazing motivated, vengeful character) , and JON SNOW. Jon Snow!?1? He's one of the most crucial characters in the book, AND he's one of (if not the most) likable character in this series. You can't just end him. Retracting to my title however, this is the reason I listed "for now." Hold up, G.O.T. fanatics, don't hate quit out of this series yet. Stannis and Jon Snow weren't supposed to end this soon, and with Stannis it didn't actually show his death (and we all know G.O.T. isn't shy about death scenes) and with the death of Jon Snow, is it just coincidence that they checkered the scene of Melisandre right before his murder? If ALL these characters are permanently gone, I'm sticking with my statement that this will be the damnation of G.O.T. , all of these characters were developing so masterfully and each death made their character feel so incomplete, so pointless. However, the ecstatic feeling we would receive if Melisandre resurrected Jon (with him exacting his revenge) with either Stannis/Arya still around to continue their storyline of their destiny to the throne/revenge, would ultimately "untaint" this episode. I believe that the show set us up leaving us in this dark dismay and disgust- in order to bring us out of it with next season. Let's hope that the producers are pushing all-in with a bluffed hand- because we all know we're going to call either way.

Focus (II) (2015)
10/10
Don't understand how reviews from here give this so much hate- giving a 10 to drown out these atrocious scores.

Don't let these narcissistic people influence your decision to go watch this movie. This was a great, thrilling movie that keeps you interested and entailed till the very end. These "experts" try to divulge into this movie so bad trying to nitpick at every crack, that they simply forgot the ability to actually "get into" a movie. To be with the movie with every scene occurring- occurs within you. This is not a sensation like one from interstellar, (which is definitely in my top movies) but the feeling I get from this is more similar to my feeling with "Rush." Completely different movies- yes, but this movie has the same feeling of ecstasy and will *figuratively* be sending you through twists and turns. It was a very pleasant watch, and if it wasn't for all these idiotic reviews my honest review would probably be a very strong 7- mediocre 8. See this one for yourself and you'll be walking out of the theater satisfied shaking your head and balking at how someone could possibly give this movie a 2- a 5- a 3. Just a disservice.
