Wo hu cang long: Qing ming bao jian (2016)
Better than expected
Good cast, predictable but good screenplay and good music score. This was a film that was easy to follow and worth the time invested. If you like old school, but well created martial arts films, you should enjoy this title ... I know I did ...
Dragonheart: Vengeance (2020)
All in all, a movie worth the time invested
I have to admit, I'm a sucker for B level sequels and every now and then I'm pleasantly surprised with the effort. Fortunately, this is a title worth your time. It's got a decent screenplay even though a good portion of the plot is predictable. The actors are enjoyable, the dragon special effects are very don't disappoint and the music score is above average.
I was actually pleased with my decision to view this title and therefore find it easy to recommend it to anyone wishing to watch a movie that is easy to view and leave you with a slightly sweet aftertaste, but one you're content with.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)
More than I expected ...
This title proved to be a lot more interesting that expected and made for a film that you're happy you watched. The screenplay maintained a good flow with a story that you get involved in rather quickly. Before you know it, you caught up in a movie that if you were to pause it, analyzed where the story had taken you, you would wonder what you were doing still watching it. Then, to your amazement, you would just shake your head and press the play button to see where it goes.
All in all, I'm quite glad I watched the whole thing, it was definitely worth the time invested.
Yip Man 4 (2019)
IP Man 4 ... a Finale to remember
IP Man was an iconic figure of Martial Arts lore, IP Man 4 is a tribute to the great one. A fitting final movie in the IP Man series ... if you love martial arts, this is a must see.
Mosul (2019)
This movie is sobering will prompt an emotional response
The movie is well written, acted and directed. It gives the viewer a serious dose of realism that will prompt a deep emotional response. It will plant an image of just how callus and random war can be to anyone unlucky enough to get in it's way. An image you will most likely never forget.
This movie is very worth watching ...
Balle perdue (2020)
It met expectations and was worth the 90 minute investment
This movie was predictable but duly entertaining, had competent casting and a screenplay that kept your interest start to finish. Lino was likable enough that you found yourself pulling for him and the bad guys deserved every unfortunate thing that happened to them.
Definitely a movie that I was glad I took a chance on.
Spectral (2016)
Science fiction with a dose of believability
This is one of those "stop the insurgence or humanity will disappear" movies. The premise and solution to the attack is fresh approach that is mostly believable. The one issue difficult for me to buy is the development and building of the necessary weaponry in a single evening. As a retired engineer myself, I know for a fact that the task is would take weeks, not hours.
However, I still found this movie to be entertaining, clever concepts with the screenplay moving well start to finish. There isn't much in the way of heavy social posturing, but there is a closing action that will prompt a little moral thought.
The character development was adequate, acting pretty was good given the requirements of the storyline. There are a few faces you will recognize that gives the cast some credibility.
When the movie ended, I felt that satisfaction you only get with films you are glad you watched.
Valentine (2017)
If you can keep your expectations real, this title can deliver ...
Every now and then, a low budget, head banging, good vs evil, far east MA movie is just what one needs to completely forget every day doldrum.
Unfortunately, so many of the movies that meet these qualifications don't always deliver - even when expectations are low.
Valentine is one of the exceptions ... it's definitely low budget, but the acting, plot, editing and cinematography were all decent and in the end, it was mission accomplished.
I'm not sure what else you could expect from a film in this realm.
