It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Frank Shoots Every Member of the Gang (2023)
Should have started with this one
I was a little worried after last episode that this season might be a bit of a miss, but I'm happy to say this episode is a much stronger one than the first, with so many great moments. Honestly probably my favourite episode in a good few seasons. I could imagine this episode slotting right in there with those in the show's peak and it wouldn't feel out of place.
The characters are paired really well, they feel authentic to themselves, their storylines are both strong and Frank is absolutely killing it here. Easy 9/10 for me. Fingers crossed the season has more episodes like this in store.
(Loving the podcast too, by the way!)
Episodes (2011)
Can't even tell why I enjoy watching this show so much...
Started watching in 2012 when I had finished watching Friends for the 100th time and wanted to watch more Matt LeBlanc, so I gave this a shot. Initially I was only watching for Matt, as I thought the show was pretty uninteresting, but after the first season I found myself watching for the show. Honestly at the time I couldn't even tell why it was so addicting to me, but I couldn't stop watching - and even to this day I think about this show pretty regularly, while still having no idea why I actually enjoy it. It's not particularly funny to me, the characters are pretty decent for the most part, the plots are often engaging enough, but it's just so alluring.
I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot, as it's a show that seemingly fell under the radar a little.
Episodes: The Final Episode (2017)
Underwhelmed...
Contains spoilers throughout!
Well, after 6 years of one of my favourite shows and a killer cliffhanger at the end of last episode, I went into this with high hopes. Honestly, I was incredibly disappointed. I was hoping for an interesting twist as to why Matt passed on the script, but it was simply due to him disliking it, so instead of a new narrative to follow that would end the show nicely, we got the same old 'Matt does or days something wrong, and Sean & Beverly hate him again...', like, how many times can we do this?
And what was that whole thing with Carol and Helen? We only saw their relationship briefly on screen and it was a disaster, why spend 10 mins of the finale on a relationship nobody was truly invested in?
And that meta ending, oh my god I could smell it from a mile away, the moment Sean started typing on the laptop. The whole breaking the 4th wall trope is so cheesy, and didn't fit in the finale in my opinion. Also, that final scene with them all in the theater watching the pilot? We got a couple of giggles and Matt going in for a kiss as the FINAL SCENE... did the pilot go well? Did the network pick it up even though it's pretty much a show about how s**t they are? I get that they were going for an open end, but none of the questions left unanswered are exciting or worth exploring, it just left a lot to be desired - which I guess sums up my feelings toward this finale.
I will absolutely rewatch the show in the future, but that finale will always leave a bad taste in my mouth.
