Three Days in Kamakura (2012)
Interesting short film
This film has no violent scenes, no monsters and no murders, but I like it because there are other good points. For example, the story. The main characters are a married couple who live with stress. Their situation is common for many people. Although they loved each other at first, it has not continued permanently. I think anybody can sympathize with that situation. And all parts of this story are combined like a puzzle. I admire this. The first five minutes felt not so interesting for me, but after a while my interest grew because some pieces of the story were finally combined in my brain. The length of the film makes it more interesting, I think.
Blade Runner (1982)
Blade Runner's world
The view of the world in this film is cool for me, although now there are a lot of similar products in other films, books and comics. This film was released in 1982. So many those works would be influenced from this film. I can watch it smoothly because of it. However, that situation makes this film less surprising because of its huge influence. Although that I watched this film many years later from the release in 1982, I felt that most things in the story is still not out of the date. Not only view of the world, but the characters in this film are attractive for me. Especially Replicant is more attractive than others.
Taxi Driver (1976)
Travis
Travis Bickle is an attractive character for me, although he is not a right minded person. He is a lonely man in a big city, because he doesn't understand how to communicate with others, I think. When I watch this film, I can sympathize with this lonely man. He always tries to act for his belief. I'm interested in him by watching those scenes that he is perplexed between his belief and the real around him. However, that situation would happen with everyone more or less. So Travis is the character who I can sympathize with, although I cannot do like him. From the beginning to the end, some of the audience could sympathize, I think.
Tôkyô monogatari (1953)
Nostalgia
I cannot think that this film is about Japanese but foreigners, because all characters are bit different from current people in Japan although this film was made in the old days. For example, such a big family is decreasing in a big city and family relationship changed significantly from those years. However, the theme which is treated in this film is not out of the date. I think that it is a universal theme for every person. In spite of this film doesn't have any action scene, but tranquil scenes and quiet conversations attracted me. Its atmosphere makes me feel good, because it reminds me nostalgic things although I didn't experience.
Unforgiven (1992)
Who is Unforgiven ?
Every character in this film is not simple to grasp as one fiction character. What I think about characters at first is always betrayed in later scene about them. In this film, there is no completely good person and bad person. I dare say that one of the main characters, William Munny is a good person relatively, because he goes to kill cowboys for the prostitutes. However, that thought changed later by the scenes that William and his partners try to kill others who are not completely bad persons. I wonder what this title, Unforgiven means. At first I thought unforgiven person is the cowboy, but later I also thought there would be another. So there is no one who can punish others, although someone looks a good person.
The Shining (1980)
Interesting points
I thought that the most interesting point of this film is the situation that only the main character's family leaves in the hotel. The screen always tells the atmosphere like I can feel cold and uncomfortable vividly. I like the father performed by Jack Nicholson, because that character has bit reality. So there is possibility anybody become like him in such place, although everyone cannot do the same things. I also like its screen visual which makes me anxiety. Not only the story but the visual is interesting for me. When I watch this film, I can feel that there is reality. I think that the main story is made by those visual detail things.
The Breakfast Club (1985)
Good students
If I am a high school student now, would I sympathize with this film's characters? I think every person is worried about something like those characters when they are young. I saw many people who are older than those characters, but I felt difficulty to prove they remember teenage thought. If people remember completely and think as teenagers, they would fail to grow up. I think this story is about young people who start to grow up. I considered these five student characters are too clever, but I didn't dislike their trying to save themselves. On the other hand I returned to myself. I couldn't think just only myself in those year age. They are too far from me, so I felt that I watched completely fiction in somewhere of my head. But I like this atmosphere like in cold morning, at school not on a weekday and 80s. I recommend it to you.
Porcelain Unicorn (2010)
Good story
This film is very short: under 5 minutes. However it condenses a lot of time through characters behavior, I think. I get good impressions from watching some stories which contain flow to far time and distant places. I don't know why, but I like those things and don't dislike this film.
At first, this film shows Germany, 1943. Basically, we know something about it, and it makes me imagine about this short film's rough background. I'm not so familiar with the details of Germany history that I can't know why three German boys play at a Jewish house, why that Jewish girl doesn't run away when she notices that boy and why three Germany soldiers don't find more about where that boy comes from. I can't know those answers. However I enjoyed it.
Stanley Pickle (2010)
Good picture like clay animation
This short film's good point is its picture like clay animation. It is interesting to watch screen because only picture is attractive without story. Although now a days many films use CG to describe something like nonentity, this films is similar with old films containing clay animation monsters. It is nice. On the other hand, this story is little difficult to understand because all characters don't talk. That makes characters a bit unpleasant although this story is some kinds of dark fantasy. I couldn't understand how this protagonist lives with corpses in that wasteland, because he looks to be completely alone although they live normally. I also couldn't understand who that woman is. However, all of this film is interesting because its atmosphere is not bad at all.
Bara prata lite (1997)
Good old man
In this short film, the main character is a middle-aged man. When I watch this man, I got a little frustrated. Why? At first, I thought he wants someone who needs him, but his way is too far from that easy simple wish. I think that he wants to control someone. Every time and everywhere, I encountered that kind of people who are always middle-aged men, sometimes mid-aged women and little children. Those people try to bully someone who was weaker than them. Although there is exception, I think people should be equal to each other basically. So this main character is an offensive person. However, turning to myself, am I sometimes like those people? When I watch this, I was frightened that I possibly hurt others in the future when I get older than now.
La rivière du hibou (1961)
Good short film
When I have a hard time, I believe my miserable situation will be well after. In some way, that hope often helps me to live better than without it. It is something we can't see and touch directly but one of the most reliable things to save ourselves. However, sometimes we will lose ourselves and be confused by that hope, if that situation is too untenable. Our thoughts sometimes take us far away from our reality. It makes me wonder in that separation scene.
In this short film, a man also has a hard time. He faces too many enemies, but he doesn't have a great power like a Hollywood action film character. In that case, can't he do anything else? Of course, he has decent thought and tries to believe himself by the end of this film. Do that thought and hope save him?
