Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold (2017)
This is just perfectly beautiful...
I can not find the words to describe my feelings after watching this documentary but I am going to try because words are important. I think she might have the words that I am missing. I never read any of her work but now I just have to. As someone who experienced grief I want to know more about what she has to say about it.
The title refers to her personal life as well as to her reception of the world around her. Observing, describing and trying to understand what is happening. She seems like a person who thinks first and then talks or rather writes and when she does, it is powerful.
This documentary is made by her nephew and you can feel the love and admiration. I had it on my watchlist for quite some time now, waiting for the right moment, just because I am a reader and therefore interested in writers lifes.
Now I found out she died in 2021. But her words still remain and I am eager to lern more about her experience.
The Lost Daughter (2021)
I liked it...but still do'nt know what happened
Now I have to write a review, don't have to, but i want to, because the movie touched me. Touched my memories about my own mother and touched my fears about becoming a mother. What if you are not there for them enough? What if they will grow up and hate you for that? What if you cannot handle it? The answer is maybe, yes they will love you and hate you and yes, you will not be able to handle it. Even more so, this will just happen (hopefully) for the right reasons. You just have to live with that. No matter who you are. You will have to deal with the same problems. Being a mother, but of course still being a person. That was beautifully portrayed and I just love Olivia Colman. What can I say, watch the movie and let yourself be touched by it.
Depp V Heard (2023)
Only the historians will know
Thank you Netflix! This is very interesting because we can not judge ourselves right now apparently. But you opened up the discussion. I simply do not know when he or she is acting. It will become a matter off court records. Maybe future generations with a (hopefully) more "objective" view will know better. I do not know. I can only make my statement right here that I did not know that this was so important to people. I cared much more about what was going on in Ukraine and Russia, Afghanistan, Syria and so on. But yeah, I had my fair share of "what about mans rights?" and I think there are abusers hiding behind that. On the other hand, of course there will be women lying about their abuse. I simply do not know what is the case right here and I it frightens me that public opinion is there to decide. I feel the "A" on my arm. For what it it stands, you have already made your decission. In either case, I think that is not ok because you do not know everything and you are not the the one to decide.
Sins of Our Mother (2022)
Don't know how to rate this
I think that the death penalty for the mother would be the next horrible thing happening to this family. Please don't do this!
Coby, you seem to be a very strong person. I'm impressed.
I grew up in a religious househould and moved away from that. But seeing this story made me just want to pray for you and your family.
I can relate to the topic of a mother searching for love and being overwhelmed with bad things happening, so she turns to religion to get some peace of mind.
How could she think that this guy was the answer? That is just so difficult to understand. It could have been anyone.
But yeah, no matter what the guy says, she is of course still responsible for her actions.
Trainwreck: Woodstock '99 (2022)
Disgusting
I never heard of this event before but I can totally understand why the people there freaked out. Sounds horrible. Just like the 90s. Lived in the same world and just asking myself how the organizers could think they can trick people into something like that?
It's not fun to watch this but it paints a very intense picture. After that I will probably never again feel like visiting any kind of commercial festival.
I feel very sorry for all the women there who wanted to feel free and had to suffer instead. Some people who wanted to make profit took the idea and the narrative and used it against them. The violence they created is shown in this mini-series.
Stand by Me (1986)
Movie and Music - Stand by me
Maybe this movie was created because of the song? The author listened to the song and had some associations? I haven't seen it for a while. Only remebered the scene with the bloodsuckers. It's still more horrifing than every horror movie I've seen. And then it's about where you come from and where you go. About friendship that is important but on the other hand friends will come and go. So watch this movie, expect nothing and be suprised about how it makes you feel in the end. What else is there other than people who touch your life for a while? If you are lucky, it's mutual like with these four characters. I like how they try to figure it out. I would definetly be the one who is scared because of every single sound in the woods!
Into the Wild (2007)
Why do I like it?
It is about a young adult who has everything and he goes on a trip to find himself. He is very sensitive so he realizes that his parents are chasing a dream that does not exist. But he should not be mad because all of that absurdity is just part of being human. And we are so small when it comes down to us really facing nature. When I was younger I thought that was really progressive. Now as I grew older I cannot help, it still touches me. Makes me want to cry from the start because music always says more than words.
City of Joy (2016)
Women
I just feel so proud to be woman when I see them overcoming their pain. It openend my eyes about this strategic war technique. Our body parts should never be something that we are ashamed of. At least in this fight we are together as one. This documentary shows us how we all belong together.
Borgen (2010)
9 or 10? For politics
I was torn between 9 or 10. Maybe because it's just to real and in reality the outcome might have been different. On the other hand it's just so very real because we are right now fighting for resources and the problems might be same. Maybe it's even more about companies rather than politics? I would love to see more of how "Briggida" reacts to that kind of pressure...
I Just Killed My Dad (2022)
Truely touching
How can you not feel with him and his family? I love this documentary series. In between you thought, why isn't she fighting for her child? And then you learn more about how she did. And how other people got involved to do the same. I wish you all the best Anthony! Thank you for sharing and thanks to the documentarist for letting us know how cases like this evolve.
