Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)
Explores unique elements of relationships
I really enjoyed the refreshing take on friendship (and relationships)..this movie dove into the underrepresented theme of having separate interests (and even social lives) in a relationship, and the dangers of complete social dependence on a single person.
It's disheartening that many of these reviewers need to see a heroic male lead to find a movie redeemable.
Several people said there were no strong/positive male characters at all, but I thought of one immediately. I didn't see any messaging, personally, that disparaged boys or men in general. It DID have some girl power elements, but not in the tone of "male=bad". I think that distinction is important.
Not every movie needs to have a male hero to legitimize a powerful female main character.
Hopefully, with time, more people (and fathers especially) will become more comfortable with that concept.
The Verdict with Judge Hatchett (2016)
Shocked at the prejudice!
Caught a couple of episodes of this today...was surprised and disgusted when the judge awarded, without hesitation, a woman $500 because her spa day was "ruined" after encountering a (clothed) trans woman at the facility. Nothing happened to her...she was suing the spa owner, apparently, because the trans woman was allowed to use the facility.
I would have awarded money to the trans woman for HER day being ruined. What an awful way to reward gross prejudice. I wonder how the judge would have reacted if the woman had been complaining of a black woman being present instead. You can't reward bigotry like this. It sets our whole society back. Plus, Judge Hatchett has publicly announced being transphobic with just a few curt statements.
How disgusting!
Dimension 404: Impulse (2017)
Silly as usual
The premise makes little sense and feels partially "borrowed" from another story (I won't tell you which, but I think you'll catch on pretty quickly). The plot seemed incomplete to me, and the gender equality going on had a forced feeling. The silliness and story twists were fun, however. The creativity and humor present throughout the series so far kept me watching.
