The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)
This film is not propaganda
I feel that the film is not anti-Christian. I don't think Martin Scorsese was trying to make something offensive to Christians. The film is very interesting and the filmmaking is marvelous. It's interesting in that Jesus and the disciples were never like this in the gospels (Judas being one of the main characters of the film but has a very different presence in the Bible).
The film is very human. You can tell that this film was made by humans, and written by a human with intentions to make a story for Art's sake. For me, this film is in the name of art. This movie is not propaganda, or a cult conversion tape, but a way of looking at the character of Christ and the disciples and making a meditation on Christ's Crucifixion. That's what art is all about.
I know the story of Christ's crucifixion and this movie doesn't question the Bible at all. The cautionary opening should make that clear, but there's no accounting for taste.
Family Possessions (2016)
Not as bad as everyone on here says!!!
It's a b-movie style movie. It kinda reminded me of the Goosebumps tv show. I was a little disappointed that Felissa Rose wasn't in it more but I was surprised about how good the movie was.
Camera work is pretty good, the story makes sense, the movie makes the story make sense, it's nicely paced, no idea is shoved down your throat, and it plays on horror stereotypes very well; again not shoved down your throat.
The editing's pretty good too. It feels like a good student film (not to put it down)
But give it a try!!
Nikos the Impaler (2003)
It's way more watchable than a Troma film
It's a film that's meant to be fun and that's it! I don't think the filmmakers were trying to make a quality film. The situations though are kind of interesting, I think the worst part of the movie really is the score. The film score just sucks on so many levels.
Felissa Rose is by FAR the best actor in the film. I would even say she did a great job knowing that this was her first film since "Sleepaway Camp."
And the fact that Lloyd Kaufman is in it makes for a great moment!
Considering what they were trying to accomplish, it doesn't seem that far-fetched to say they did a pretty bang up job (minus the music).
The camera work and sound design is pretty funky as well; some of the actors are pretty terrible too but if all those things were fixed then I think the result would be similar to "Evil Dead" or "Dead Alive" even.
And like I said it's way more watchable than let's say "Troma's War."
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
One of my favorites
This is a great film!! One of Yorgos Lanthimos' best films in my opinion. The film has the most startling intros I've ever seen in a movie. It has the most shocking dialogue (funny but really strange), the performances are so good and the way the plot escalates is so worth while!!
I remember seeing this in a theater of mostly older people and most of them left within the first 20 mins. It's a really memorable film and every time I watch it with somebody they always have a different reaction to it.
If you like weird movies or just open to the idea, this isn't a disappointment.
Gojira · Ebira · Mosura Nankai no daikettô (1966)
Boring
I'm a Godzilla fan, don't get me wrong. But this film is so slow! The plot is not interesting and Godzilla makes like 1 appearance (the ending).
Don't waste your time with this one, there's plenty of better ones!
Everything is boring! I'm just gonna leave it at that.
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007)
super good, but very sad, intense movie
All I have to say about philip seymour hoffman and ethan hawke's acting is they should of won an oscar. I mean this movie had me at the very edge of my seat. hoffman's and hawke's acting made the situation of the movie all the more real. as the movie goes on from the first scene, it just gets more and more shocking. you wouldn't think that the movie would unravel like it does, but it was superb. this movie made me feel extreme emotions. in some instances i had to pause the movie and take five minutes because how real and all the other things i said previously. if you haven't seen, i highly recommend it, it's a must see!
Sangue per Dracula (1974)
Strange, but Weirdly Appetizing
I was intrigued when I heard about Andy Warhol producing 'Blood for Dracula,' and 'Flesh for Frankenstein.' I planned on watching both of them, starting with 'Blood for Dracula.' This movie is just very entertaining, strange, and artistic. The story is like no other Dracula film. With Udo Kier as Dracula this was bound to be good for me. I first saw Udo in Gus Van Sant's 'My Own Private Idaho,' (which many people probably had the same experience as me.) I thought he was good at first sight. Then I watched an interview with director Gus Van Sant, where he was talking about first seeing Udo in 'Flesh for Frankenstein,' and 'Blood for Dracula.' Naturally, I had to see them.
It was exciting to know that this movie existed. So this was interesting. I don't think it was great, I don't think it could've been better, it's just good the way it is. You just kind of have to see it yourself.
