WandaVision (2021)
Ouch!
I just don't get it! I tried! I wanted to like it, but I couldn't make it thru the first show. First bar of 'Old MacDonald', and I was outta there!
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
How disappointing!
I was disappointed on so many levels. This silly farce added nothing to WW whatsoever. So many good actors and no one could save the horrible, pointless writing. Apparently studio execs regretted killing off Pine's character so they decided, in their infinite wisdom, to wish him back? How innovative! Kristen Wiig, so good, normally, but such a horrid 'bad guy'. My son, avid fan, didn't even finish the movie. I stuck it out. That's 2+ hours I'll never get back!
Ava (2020)
Boring
It just really missed the mark. The action was bland and uninspired and the dialogue was awful. Wait til it's free or better yet, don't bother.
Da 5 Bloods (2020)
Horrible
I was greatly disappointed with the effort on this movie. The camaraderie way over played and completely unbelievable. The storyline flopped about like a fish out of water. Not an entertaining movie at all.
Meteor (2009)
Supremely terrible
I hardly know where to begin. This is awful on so many levels! One of those shoes that is actually painful to watch.
War of the Worlds (2019)
Not good!
I had such high hopes for this series. The premise is great as are the actors get it is amazingly boring. There is hardly a character that garners my sympathy. Actually, there are none.
Joker (2019)
Wonderful journey
Absolute addictive story. Watching 'The Joker' character being created by time and circumstance was nothing short of fascinating.
6 Underground (2019)
Blew me away!!!
Action wise it was amazing. Absolutely amazing. If you don't like action, may I suggest the Hallmark channel!
Enterprise (2001)
One of my favs
The delicate balance required to use 'star trek' technology without shields, low warp capability and minimal weapons was masterfully done. On the other hand, the role of Security Chief was horribly miscast. I never bought it, never liked it but there was little to do about it. Trip, chief engineer, should have been confined to the ship and locked in with the warp reactor were there any aliens on board.
The only other flaw was that awful theme song. Horrid! A whiny (sp), whimpy song that had nothing in common with the Star Trek spirit. I still cannot listen to it.
Byzantium (2012)
Excellent vampire movie.
I fell in love with this movie for a number of reasons. It heralds a unique ritual to obtain this eternal vampiric gifts. The movie does not focus upon vampire traits but upon a mother and daughter coping with eternity while remaining incognito. They do not number among the rich nor the affluent. They come in near poverty while the mother relies upon her prostitute originator money. The daughter must cope with the mother's unchanging ways as they both seek blood to survive without detection.
As someone states in the movie concerning the mother, 'she is morbidly erotic'. And she is, Gemma Atherton is amazingly beautiful and sexy. The daughter is played magnificently by a Ms Ronan. They do not highlight fangs nor speed nor strength which is greatly refreshing in a vampire flick. Speed and strength are hinted at by action but not detailed nor defined. Fangs are never a pat of this movie, hallelujah!
They obtain blood quite uniquely and I thought it innovative and enjoyable. There was not an aspect of this movie I did not like. Saddled with the whitewashed vampires of Twilight and Anne Rice's version, Byzantium was a marvelous escape.
How It Ends (2018)
Good apocalyptic scenes.
I suppose the lack of world ending scenes in movies causes those of us who enjoy such venues to prize them somewhat. This movie has a few good ones and overall it was not a bad movie, ergo muy rating. The acting was adequate if not spectacular. Not an Oscar winner, however I did enjoy it.
War of the Worlds (2005)
Another classic movie destroyed by children
One of my favorites prior to whining little girl and idiot teen boy. Imagine a 15 yr old seeing the superiority of alien invaders deciding to run into battle with nothing but his attitude. A battle that sent the military running and mostly dying, but miraculously he survives. Some brain in Hollywood thought this a grand and believable notion. Unfortunately, I'm sure this brain is probably still employed.
One could make the argument that Ms Fanning's reactions were totally reasonable given the alien invasion she witnessed. However, that does not make it entertaining. And it was not, at all.
Just as Jurassic World, I was hoping the dinosaur would chow down on those irritating kids, please! No such luck. No hungry dinos here but one hoped the boy would learn just how stupid he was, just prior to an ugly end. No such luck.
When will directors learn that whiny, crying children, though possibly realistic, are NOT entertaining.
Dauntless: The Battle of Midway (2019)
"A" for effort, "E" for success!
I so wanted to give this Midway a positive review but unfortunately, it sucked! The battle was Ill defined and unsatisfying throughout. The personal stories were plagued by poor dialogue and unending in their and my torture. The movie suffered for trying to focus on both storylines without doing justice to either. I am heartedly disappointed.
Another Life (2019)
Just awful!
I wanted to like it. The premise is quite ridiculous and without any logic whatsoever. Every issue seems based upon emotion rather than science. They actually have an artificial intelligence on their ship that is swayed by emotional screaming. I could not make it through the first episode. A mutiny based on someone not getting their own way. I fully expected the mutineer to stomp a foot, stiffen his spine, stick out a lip and stomp away in a huff! It would have not only been in character but fit the juvenile level of the program.
Humans (2015)
Provocative and not
The questions asked are marvelous. I enjoy all of it. And yet half of the equation is missing. Would humans be so violently opposed? Obviously some but I think not so wide spread. Human fear was in great evidence, but greed was nowhere to be seen. Do we not believe that corporations, think tanks, governments or military would not seek to profit? To obtain and use for their own benefit? At the least this would ensure survival if not growth of synthetic life.
I also noticed that an underlying yet significant truth was never mentioned. That once something discovered, it cannot be undiscovered. Do the writers believe that humans are so stupid they would turn to violence believing never to encounter another synthetic again? At best such monumental discoveries can be studied and hopefully understood. Otherwise, an ignored discovery will return to bite those who put their heads in the sand.
Prityazhenie (2017)
Absolutely awful
Writing was juvenile and the acting was subpar, and I'm being generous. Let us all hope that if ET stops for a visit, they do not pick Russia.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Very well done
Entertaining. Well written. Enough humor with an excellent storyline.
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
Excellent movie
Mr. Reeves, with help, has created an entire mafia controlled world. And it was very well done. The only little flaw was thinking that a fight with a 12 year old boy would prove entertaining. This fight could have only been funnier had Mr. Wick held him by the head at arms length while he failed uselessly. That's right, it was a girl. That just makes it worse. I really do not understand how they missed it.
John Wick, baba yaga, boogieman's nemesis and they thought fighting a kid would be a good idea!
Go figure
Sense8 (2015)
Wow
I am blown away! I've gotten older and less enamored with television drama but this series got me. I loved it, even my son loved it. I saw all of season 2 and that sure did look like a finale to me, I'm sorry to say. It was a marvelous premise, very good writing and acting, great good guys and bad. Well done Netflix!
The Walking Dead (2010)
Zombies... Geez, enough already
I enjoyed the first year. Then they cracked a zom open and I was cured. I never watched it since and never will. Not so much due to poor writing or poor acting, neither of which are issues, but I've had my fill of the dead wandering idiots.
Under the Skin (2013)
A very long movie
Read some critiques prior to watching. They were and were not helpful. Definitely an "art" sci-fi and they captured the art of it quite well. However, it is my opinion they could have accomplished that in 30 minutes instead of the 2 hour utter monotony I just finished watching.
Enterprise (2001)
One of my favs
The delicate balance required to use 'star trek' technology without shields, low warp capability and minimal weapons was masterfully done. On the other hand, the role of Security Chief was horribly miscast. I never bought it, never liked it but there was little to do about it. The Conners (2018)
Not good
I've never been a fan of the original Roseanne show nor its new incarnation. Her humor was mean, funny enough when it's not aimed at you, but horrid for the target. However, there had to be so much going on behind the scenes as they basically butchered the Roseanne character with a self induced overdose. That was someone's way of payback to Me Bare. I thought it was in very, very bad taste. Needless to say I'll not be viewing any more episodes. (Sorry John Goodman)
