How to Get Rich (2023)
I learned nothing!
I started watching the show in hope I'll learn a few tricks/tips about investment with the money I have saved, not learn elementary class mathematics. If you're spending more than you're making, well, surprise surprise! You'll be in debt. To pay off your debt quicker, what do you do? More surprises! Cut off expenses and pay off more every month for the debt.
If you pay 1000 instead of 700 you'll get rid off your debt in 13 years instead of 18, mind-blown? Yeah, not really.
The only thing I liked about the show is that these people do need help and glad someone decided to do so. And probably that I have better financial intelligence in my mid 20s than people in their 40s.
MH370: The Plane That Disappeared (2023)
Sounds like a discussion one would have on weed!
So much significance is given to theories that make no sense! Instead of interviewing the key people who could provide a plausible explanation, netflix chose to make this docuseries a movie for eyeballs.
It would have been better if they would have just recreated a scene based on actual data.
I was hoping to get better insights or at least an unbiased documentary but it provides neither.
I don't know why they never mentioned in the documentary that some of the personal belongings of the people were also found in Madagascar (make it more believable that the plane actually went down in Southern Indian ocean, agreeing with the data).
This is just a disappointingly long documentary that is like my uncle's stories; they lead to nothing!
Formula 1: Drive to Survive (2019)
It's thrilling!
Even though I am not an F1 fan, yet I loved the entire series, and in fact, I have become fond of F1. Since I have watched this documentary, I am following F1 and enjoy it a lot.
It's not just about what happens on the race track but also what happens behind the scenes. The rivalry, support, heart-breaks, competition etc. I think the name is very appropriately given, "Drive to Survive".
Watch it even if you are not an F1 fan and stick to it for a while!
Grahan (2021)
Good but too slow!
It's a sensitive topic that could be presented very well and had the potential to attract attention of everyone. It's good but could be better. It is waaay too slow! In any one hour episode, meaningful content is of not more than 30 minutes, this made me lose interest with every passing episode. Just because it had received such high ratings, I continued watching, hoping that I'll develop an interest but not really.
6/10, cut the crap and it'd probably deserve an 8 or 9.
Sardar Udham (2021)
A picture is worth a thousand words
We all have read about it, some may have been to the Jalliawalan Bagh itself but none captures the true brutality of the incident. Shaheed Sardar Udham Singh's contribution is lost in the history and we all need to at least know about it. This movie not only sheds a light on revolutionary martyr Udham Singh but also gave me goosebumps with its ability to capture the emotions through stunning cinematography, direction, acting and of course the content.
Just watch it, you must! 10/10.
Aspirants (2021)
It's alright
First 3 episodes were great and mostly on track. Then it started deviating from the real topic, most probably because they don't have much content so they stretch it, but the real disappointing part is how similar TVF's scripts are...
Some parts are really inspiring though. Worth a 7 but not more.
Hamid (2018)
A heart-warming story: must watch!
Hamid is one of the few movies which teaches you many lessons while portraying the reality of Kashmir. The movie gives a glimpse of the life of locals and the military. It's hard to make a firm opinion about who is wrong or who is right? Perhaps none of them is, but what is the solution of the Kashmir's problem?
At the moment, seems like it's beyond our control and only "Allah" can solve it.
If you don't cry while watching this masterpiece then you're dead inside!
My Girl (1991)
A movie that will make you cry
I found about this movie from watchmojo.com's YouTube videos. It might be the first time I watched a movie without looking up for it over IMDb. But I am glad because after seeing the rating of only 6.8, I might not watched it as usually movies below 7 are not worth watching (I have tried before).
This is one of the few movies which take your emotions through a roller coaster ride. It makes us smile in the beginning and also reminds us of our own childhood. The curiosity of kids about everything. Having a best friend with whom you spend your days and share a special bond. Similar bond is depicted in the movie between Vada and Thomas J. The background music, cinematography and acting done by even the kids make this movie a great family movie.
But doesn't matter how strong you are, the end will make you cry! So, keep some tissues with you. Overall I think it was one of the best family drama movie I have ever watched. I think it deserves a much better rating.
The Martian (2015)
Not even close to the expectations
After watching Apollo 13, I decided to watch The Martian and I was expecting a lot from this movie. But unfortunately, it was nowhere near to what I was expecting or in fact, "reality".
Apart from the red planet surface of mars and perhaps the mars rover, nothing in this movie seems realistic. The gravity of mars is about 1/3rd of the earth but Matt Damon seems to walk exactly like on earth. Even after being left alone on an uninhabitable planet, no feeling of being alone or even being scared to die seemed to emerge.
Above all, disco music in the background made the matter worse. It seemed like being alone on mars is like a weekend party?!
And why everything seemed to be so "High Tech". So many things looked unrealistic. Even the main control room of NASA was too dark to even work at? What was that about? It was very well depicted in Apollo 13.
And out of nowhere, Chinese people decide to help NASA by revealing their secret space mission? It is even hard to think of China working along with USA, let alone revealing a secret mission.
Then the whole team of astronauts just decide to go for the rescue mission right away even after knowing all the risks and time it will take? Seriously, it takes me more time to decide which burger I wanna eat at a restaurant.
In the end, after 561 SOL, eating only potatoes and a piece of bread, Matt doesn't seem to lose as much weight as he should have..
And the whole mission was being telecast on big screens like it was an Olympic game or something. Really? Since when NASA is so open about their missions -.-'
Overall experience, I just liked the Visual effects/CGI used to create the surface of mars, ships, and other things. But otherwise, very disappointed by the movie. I still haven't watched Gravity yet, I hope that will help me recover from my headache given by "The Martian".
