Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
I enjoyed it by the end
So i'm not the biggest indiana jones fan but I remember the movies, would usually be on around christmas time every year along with star wars and alike so I went into this film with low expectations and by the end of it can say I thoroughly enjoyed myself I thought the time travel concept was done well and the acting was good even the edited young harrison ford looking surprisingly good and the actors and acting was very enjoyable would happily watch this again one christmas down the line or maybe a marathon of them all for old times sake, give it a try you might be pleasantly surprised that it just works.
The Flash (2023)
I didn't hate it like I expected to
So I thought I would go into this movie hyped to see keaton as batman again etc and to finally see DC move on from the awful snyderverse we had to suffer, but in the end I enjoyed it but not quite the batmans sections most of which felt really off and out of place for his character, the story was fun and it felt like a good old 90s kids movie I'm sure younger me would have given it a better rating but still this wasn't the mess everyone seems to be making out, I saw it didn't do well in cinemas but honestly I haven't been the cinema to see a superhero movie since batman vs superman that was kind of my cut off point where I grew tired of paying for movies I wasn't enjoying.
Judging this movie on it's own merits rather than jumping down the twitter cancel culture rabbithole of finding ezra guilty without an judicial outcome, I enjoyed it for what it was but I'm hoping now that DC really start building their universe bigger and better than it's seemingly been since the nolan batman movies, DC hasn't really seemed to top those films since which is a real shame because us the fans keep on giving them chances, stop chasing marvel and start fresh.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
Went in with low expectations which probably helped
After the mess that was batman vs superman and justice league, the green lantern movie, the wonder woman movies, the first suicide squad and then even black adam this felt like a step in the right direction for DC, a movie based on a comic that actually feels like the comics it was based on, imagine keeping it that simple and it turning out ok, admittedly I also didn't mind the last suicide squad movie but it was just a whole lot better than the previous fiasco that again low expectations helped it alot too.
Here is to hoping things are a little more cohesive going forward and this isn't just another throwaway, I have no problem with one shot comics or one shot movies, such as the joker or The Batman not being tied to an overarching story or universe as it means we get differented toned movies, but the universe needed more of this back again to wash that bad taste of "martha? Why did you say that name" out your mouth *shudders*
Black Adam (2022)
Wonderful new direction for DC makes their movies feel like comicbooks again
I will be honest with how disappointing I found green lantern then the snyder movies I had lost faith in DC but it feels like they finally remembered what made their comicbooks great, conherency really helps I mean when you need a 4 hour movie just to tell one simple comicbook story that is just the first act of a longer story arc you know something is very wrong and that is where the snyder movies fell flat, rushing batman vs superman was a huge mistake as was much of the casting, justice league more of the same but with drama and toxicity surrounding it from a vocal minority living on twitter really soured the love people had for DC but it's nice to finally say I'm enjoying the DC movies again and between this and the last suicide squad and the peacemaker series it seems most are which is just a positive direction for them as a company to be in, hoping they take this and run with it now finally inject some fun and colour back into what was becoming a dark and dreary incorehent fumbling and misuse of characters, I want well made comic book movies, not 301 and sucker punch 2.0 with pop culture branding thrown ontop.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Fun enough for what it is
I think alot of the reviewers are expecting too much, this is exactly what I always expected a star wars TV show about any original characters would be like, star wars was never a masterpiece but it was fun silly and it kind of worked, we went from wise cracking robots one minute and tense lightsabers the next to... exactly the same but on TV, I would much rather watch this show than the prequels current sequels, 1000% better than solo if im honest with you, reminds me a little of rogue one and I enjoyed that enough, it's not mando, but it's better than boba, go in with an open mind and you'll enjoy it.
Morbius (2022)
A middle of the road movie...
As someone that has been watching superhero movies since batman in 1989 as a kid, I would say this film is just middle of the road, nowhere near as bad as some are making out but I think we are just spoilt for better choice right now even if that choice is another 6 or 7 star marvel movie until a really good once comes out and repeats the cycle
But I noticed many reviews keep mentioning that morbius in the movie jokes about saying "i am venom, only joking" but that is just in the trailer for a joke it's not in the actual movie, so it shows alot of these reviews aren't real, doesn't mean people that did see it didn't hate it but, it does say alot for online mentality of people that don't even bother to watch the film sometimes, it was fine but it's not something i'll likely ever rewatch again despite liking most of letos work usually.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Great movie for long time fans
As much as alot of people have said this movie is just a nostalgia and reference fest it's not quite, everything makes perfect sense from a comicbook point of view and for anyone emotionally invested in the overall journey of marvels movies will get what this film is, it's the start to the next phase, i haven't LOVED every marvel movie, there are a handful I consider great like winter soldier for example but some are filler and basic origin stories and such but this was something different it was a spectacle that lived upto expectations and did what most comicbook fans always want, marvel certainly don't need to rely on nostalgia, but bringing back doc and goblin fits in perfectly with various spiderman comics and how things are done there.
Looking forward to seeing what comes next, not a huge fan of doctor strange but I am interested in his next movie.
Superman & Lois (2021)
Went in hesitant but loved it
So I loved smallville growing up, I saw it's faults too but the positives and long running story arcs where great and the character development was great too, this show feels like it has the same heart as it with a slightly darker tone, I grew tired of batwoman quickly and supergirl I kept going back to but there is just never anything happening or it's always the same thing repeating, the flash was great until the last season, so this is a breathe of fresh air a new show to hopefully not turn into 90% exposition like the others have, the special fx are also alot more tame than the other shows and i kinda like it, definitely a show I will likely be watching on a sunday night after the work week just like I used to with smallville.
Will say too sad to see many negative reviews went up before the episode even ended showing how little of a chance some gave it and many ripping on the actress playing lois but she was fine, felt very human and believable, same for the kids. Also a complaint about the CW and how it'll be cancelled soon, but I highly doubt that is episode one is anything to go on.
Some Adult Content (2020)
Absolutely boring
Honestly skip it this isn't worth wasting anyones time on, despite what pdellis-21630 review might say this film is far from funny, funny that it is their only review on the site hmmm
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
How does this have so much praise?
Honestly I have never been so confused watching a movie before, after all the praise it got I was expecting great things but the film is just a really bad attempt at making artsy dark comedy but it fails so horribly as every inch of it feels forced and overall it is tonally dreadful. I guess maybe people where just bored with what has been pumped out of hollywood recently if this is what is on offer as a 8+ rating movie, honestly I would rather force myself to watch an Adam Sandler marathon... including his later movies, that rewatch this again.
