Kimi (2022)
Probably should have been animated... that bad
I won't waste your time with a lengthy review. The only reason this movie got made was Zoe Kravitz agreeing to do a sex scene with partial nudity. Any ratings above 3 stars are either fake or those who cheaply ascribe artistic value to anything that virtue signals (ie technology is bad).
Wrong Turn (2021)
Poor writing dooms this reboot.
Let's be clear the Wrong Turn franchise was always a bad joke outside the original. Departing from that narrative though to new antagonists did not work and made no sense. I'm not sure how you're able to fit in 'woke politics' to a movie like this but you get a dose of that as well. The writing is an amalgamation of other popular horror themes we have seen the world over and does not execute on any. I don't want to give spoilers but seriously, when was the Deep South in America ever settled by Scandinavian hillbilly Vikings in the the mid 1800s...?
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
Money grab sequel that insults the audience
I should have known this would disappoint when John Krasinksi did a public announcement beforehand thanking the audience for watching.
Emily Blunt, who I thought would be the lead, had like 15mins screen time. Cillian Murphy did all he could and was the only redeemable feature.
I honestly think Krasinki had an OK idea for this but then Covid happened and the studio just said do what you can... I was a big fan of the first but would have to say skip this.
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Under-developed and unrealized potential
Overall disappointing considering what the film left on the table in terms of story and character development. With a better director and longer run time this could have been much better. Still recommend watching, but don't waste your time at the end looking for some deeper meaning to it... there isn't any.
The Man Who Saved the World (2014)
Worth the watch BUT...
Re-enactment of the 'incident' was great and you can really feel the tension which is a fraction of what those soviet troops must have felt. Lost opportunity in not expanding upon these scenes.
Stanislov meeting the Hollywood actors is simply ridiculous, especially Kevin Costner who came across as a complete moron. Also, the 9/11 imagery was out of place and really didn't make sense, although I hadn't seen some of that ground level footage. So overall good but could have been much better.
Universum: Dschingis Khan - Reiter der Apokalypse (2004)
You can get more from a Snapple Fact
Probably one of the worst documentaries I have seen in regards to substance, or in this case lack thereof. I will leave this review like this documentary... short on details.
