Gulmohar (2023)
Antidote to bad movies
Gulmohar is breathtaking. It is so beautifully weaved, almost felt like I am watching performances through a glass window. It was surreal, the direction to the writing to the screenplay, to everything.
It's not something that one would enjoy in their leisure time. It takes time to build its base, (a slow burner) the director demands his audience to go on this journey along with him and his vision. All you have to do is follow his lead, and when you do you will be mesmerized.
Gulmohar, in my opinion, concluded appropriately since it leaves you wondering what comes next without giving too much away. It gives you just enough information to believe what seems most reasonable to you, everyone must have their own perception of how a story should pan out.
Manoj Bajpayee is not a subject I want to bring up. Since we are well aware of his identity and filmography. I could literally sit and watch this man do nothing for 12 hours and never get tired of it. This man is our National Treasure.
Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi (2019)
HOME RUN
Seema Pahwa has taken a script and moulded it in such a way that it felt like I am peeking through the window and watching a family drama. The performances felt astoundingly real, such relatable performances. Ramprasad ki tehrvi may be slow watch, but it entices you from the beginning.
By far the best debut directoral movie in Bollywood
Aamis (2019)
Brave
Aamis is a brave attempt to cinema. But it has it's flaws. Pacing is considerably the major reason. The run-time is 108 minutes with nearly 70% of it is filled with a Blooming relationship between a PHD male student and a female doctor. The final act escalates the movie to whole new level, then falls face first to the ground. Leaving an unimaginable void. Although a fun watch. And supporting independent filmmakers is the need of the hour.
Gulabo Sitabo (2020)
Refreshing
Movies are back. The best part about Gulabo Sitabo is that it doesn't spoonfeed you. You start experiencing and exploring the story along with Sircar's Direction. A masterfully well crafted movie. Sircar wants us to take leap of faith with him, and once you do, you will be in Eden.
The ambiguity may leave you unwanted. But it works for me. And it works magic. Definitely the best directed movie of 2020 so far.
SOOJIT SIRCAR IS OUR NATIONAL TREASURE.
Choked (2020)
Lacklustre writing. False Marketing. Overhyped trailer
Takes way too much time to BEGIN. nearly 45 minutes.
Lacklustre in writing, disappointed.
Chintu Ka Birthday (2020)
Kudos to the AIB team
An Unprecedented Indian movie. Never before. Hope this has opened up the floodgates. We need independent writers who are not held down by the big studios. Really sad to see Chintu ka birthday not getting a theatre release and coming out in VOD format.
Mahakaal (The Superhero) (2016)
appreciated such leap of an Indian cinema
i loved the fact that such a pursuit has been towards TV. if would talk like a fan i might sound in favour of mahakaal and appreciate everything blindly. now here is what the team of mahakaal should look into. 1) better screenplay, 2)better camera movements (i would have loved if they would have done a slow pan camera zoom in movements in the story telling of mahakaal), 3) please get an adult into it i appreciate the young buds doing it. but sometimes you need the experience than talent. 4) and please act (dont over act) i hate the most when people over act too much.
the good points being the effort you guys are taking in making it and breaking the stereotypes in process. being a low budget superhero TV movie i liked the graphic work.
the only issue being- please get an adult in this movie.
M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016)
highs and lows
movie was blunt. average direction, screenplay lower than average editing. one could see neeraj pandey's will to direct a drama but as the old saying goes do what you are good at neeraj pandey is one one those directors in India who understands the genre thriller and suspense and he expressed his emotions through special 26, a Wednesday, baby but may be he tried something out of his comfort zone. the vfx or cgi used in the movie was good. there were some highs like the world cup winning scene, the low moments were the movie makes you think why are they even showing these sequences. they portrayed dhoni as the prodigy all the time never showed the difficult times. msd will have half your brain saying enjoy it being a cricket fan or a dhoni fan and the other half saying how dull it is. yet another disappointed movie this year which had high expectations.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
Truly a masterpiece
Direction at its best... the screenplay, the dialogue, the acting... all were beautiful. All the actors has done justice to their role. probably one the greats. i was waiting for such a great movie for years. watch it once twice thrice... it will never disappoint you. we know Scorsese Eastwood Spielberg fincher Nolan....but inarritu's got to be the next great talent.
the whole movie was metaphorical.
norton was brilliant in as many movies. and we all know keaton how good he is. emma stone at her best.
again a masterpiece
The Prestige (2006)
beautifully presented.......
what a way of presenting such a movie... Again a Christopher Nolan masterpiece. Scarlett Johansen gave an amazing performance. probably worthy of an Oscar though. movie goes slow but intrigues you into it. for me David bowie stole the show. was expecting more from bale and Jackman. two prolific name in a movie must make it truly special, but no they were not at their best... should be a must watch for everyone. giving 9 out of 10 only because of the writing, screenplay and directing. misses out 1 star though.. ha ha
well this movie exceeded my expectations. i hope you will like it as well. the suspense kills you at the very end...
again a nolan masterpiece
