First Ever Gangster Movie for Feminists
13 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The film is near over - a fat man with high blood pressure is hollering from out of an arm-chair. Gabriel Byrne is on the floor, it must be his 10th time to have been knocked onto the ground - from all sorts of characters -henchmen, his female lover, his male lover, his boss and so on - Anyways, thankfully the hollering guy has stopped screaming now, and instead of watching the films end - I thought I would log on and say that I looked forward to this film having read all the positive reviews - but no, this is not a gangster movie - I really have no idea what the hell Joel & Ethan created here. From reading the other reviews on here I guess i missed out clues, clues such as the sound of the creaking corridor floor board 36 minutes 25 seconds into the film.

If you loved Crash, Raging Bull, Leaving Las Vegas, Training Day - then you will love this harrowing portrayal of recklessness
25 July 2015
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. The characters are quickly built due to great casting & acting performances all round. A harrowing journey into the mindset of a complex and reckless cop while he's encountering a downward spiral in his life. The journey showcases the loneliness of the main character 'Dave' and his attempts to obtain an equilibrium. his recklessness is rather exciting viewing, and each day that he sets off - the viewer is in suspense as to what is ahead, on any given day. The film is 50/50 focusing on his life off duty and on duty which I found interesting in its direction, as it meets an overall viewer objective - which for me, was a show of a Cop lost in the LA noise. I wasn't expecting much from this film which is why I think I enjoyed it so much. If you liked 'Leaving Las Vegas' 'Raging Bull' 'Training Day' Crash - then i'm sure you will enjoy this, an easy to watch film with an out of this world cast of best supporting actors.

Silly Chaos with poor casting - A film for Teenagers
23 July 2015
I gave this film a chance having read the 10 + positive reviews herein. However, I feel I wasted my time watching it. It reminded me of St Trinian's - the film about the 'mischievous school girls causing havoc''. Nil character building depth - I would go as far as to say that the building of the characters is nestled within the costuming, and the viewer is expected to believe that the characters are urban clever hipsters, with a hoodlum leader who happens to be a criminal mastermind. A rather dizzy & twirling background soundtrack seems to turn itself on every now & then, adding unnecessary noisy to the scripting. It was difficult to take the characters seriously and the plot was ridiculous. A film for teenagers huddled up for a sleep over with crunch sounding popcorn.
