Adam and Eve (2005)
Definitely not National Lampoon
If you check the other comments, you'll hear about this being a great romantic comedy. It's not. As a romantic comedy, it barely passes muster. The laughs are few and far between, the plot is completely formulaic, and the only thing "National Lampoon" about this film is the title. Douglas is wooden as Adam, although Chriqui is very convincing as Eve. The frat-house shenanigans are tame beyond belief when compared to other Lampoon college movies, and the girl waiting for the perfect time to toss in her V-card is an old theme that isn't freshened in any way by this film. After great National Lampoon titles like "Van Wilder", "Animal House", and the "Vacation" movies, this one feels like the first attempt of someone straight out of film school.
The Perfect Man (2005)
tad psychotic, but most of us are
Someone previously gave us a rant on the "moral corruption" or some such thing encompassed by this movie. They're full of it.
The movie is fun, with enough cheesy parts to cause the kids to giggle quite often. I got a kick out of some of the jokes, clichéd as they were, and thought the movie was good enough to stand on its own two feet.
Holly's antics while keeping her lies alive might be illegal (in the case of the fire alarm) and irresponsible, but sixteen-year-olds rarely if ever give serious thought to the consequences of their actions. We do stupid things when we're teenagers, and we used to be able to live it down. Teens today aren't so lucky; the things they do sometimes stay on their records forever, and that's just sad.
Don't turn the movie into a battle between Lindsay Lohan and Hillary Duff. Leave that stuff in the tabloids where it belongs.
The Island (2005)
Magnificent
I don't rate movies as 10 being the best movie I ever watched, I rate them on how much entertainment they provided. This movie was very entertaining. I never saw a preview for this movie since I don't own a TV and rarely go to movies, but this was a pure joy!
Someone commented on a lack of chemistry between McGregor and Johansson; that person missed the point because there wasn't supposed to be any, at least not until the last part of the movie. This is a pretty fresh movie, an idea that hasn't been done to death by Hollywood. MUCH better than going to see some remake. The action scenes are done nicely, without too much fanfare, and the other scenes are all done very well.
I give the movie a thumbs up.
