The Choice (2016)
Turned it off after 45 minutes
I watch a lot of movies, seen many similar to this, I can't even remember when I've turned one off before the ending.
Started off well, generally felt nice, other than the discomfort of Travis's hair.
As others have said, this romanticised cheating, and in a weird unrealistic way. She seems super happy with her boyfriend, she seems to really not like Travis. All of a sudden, she seems to really like him, entices him in not giving a care about being in a serious relationship and then just happily gets with him. Zero regrets.. at least create more build up and make her seem somewhat guilty - she gets a voicemail from her boyfriend the day after sleeping with Travis and then the next scene she's back having fun with Travis.
+1 to the comments about the dog & puppies, c'mon..
One Day (2011)
So much potential
I love the idea of this movie, it's a great concept, great cast, well filmed and captured the timeline and aging all so well, ticking all the right boxes.
Unfortunately, it just wasn't executed in the way I had hoped, and whilst the second half got better despite having some flaws it just crashed towards the end.
First half of the movie:
Dexter is a great character, who probably develops the most in the story but they just make him so unlikeable for too long, and due to the film feeling a bit slow in the first half it takes too long to start liking him, even his 'turning point' took 30 minutes of the film.
Second half of the movie:
It started getting better, Dexter more likeable, his and Emma's lives have really progressed and developed, it's going well. However.. and that's a big however.. they just seemed to take this big build up in their relationship and then pass the sudden developments off as if it was nothing. All of a sudden another year has passed, find out they had slept together (for the first time), during the same day of finding that out we find out she has a boyfriend, then dumps him and starts a relationship with Dexter - from a slow build up each year to suddenly it's happened.. within less than 5 minutes, now we're going through the next couple of years and they're married - there's still 20+ minutes of the film left, something has to go wrong.. right..?
The final part:
Why? Writers.. why? Emma gets killed, suddenly in a stupid and clumsy way, like they killed off a side character in a 10 season drama. The viewers deserve better.
I know some loved this movie, but I find it strange people can be that into a story, great characters and build up, and be fine with such a sad ending, I don't feel joy, don't people want to feel that? It just doesn't make me want to rewatch. It would have been better if they had taken half the time off the drawn out ending and used it to build up their 'moment' we'd waited 3/4 of the movie for.
It was beautifully filmed, brilliant acting, awesome production. Maybe I'm just a sucker for happy endings, for me this could have been a better version of Love Rosie but combining the first half and the ending it just didn't cut it for me, too many sad/negative scenes and when it got to what it seemed we're supposed to wait for - they're together and she dies, within no time at all.
Bit of a shame, maybe I'll watch it again later in life... one day.
Teen Wolf: The Movie (2023)
There's a lot to like, but more to dislike
Big fan of the series and was delighted to see a movie was made after it had been cancelled with more story to tell. However I felt like they did all those years and development a disservice.
Let's start with the positives:
- Scott was great, made it feel nostalgic
- I loved Derek (as usual), he nailed this one.
- It was nice to have the gang back together, it felt like they picked up where they left off in terms of connection.
- Some of the actors did really well to maintain their character development after 6 years off.
- Loved having coach back in there (he hadn't changed a single bit).
- I liked they kept lacrosse in the film, though could have done this bit better, like a lot of things it felt squeezed in.
Now the negatives:
- Why oh why did they revisit a previous enemy, they had a chance to come up with something new and interesting, the writers here were really lazy.
- Allison coming back felt really quite pointless. They also ruined her re-connection with Scott - wow they had so many opportunities with this reunion and it felt dragged out and diluted with no real 'moment', also her resurrection was a complete joke - bit of dirt and a sword at the old tree stump? Boom, job done.
- Malia and Parish? I didn't like this, it felt very forced and pointless and put in there so that Scott could get back with Allison, honestly I would have left Allison out of it and kept Scott and Malia.
- Hikari and Derek's son Eli - both great characters, absolute no storyline, just throw em in there for whatever reason.
- Jackson's character - what on earth happened here? He was just in the background with Lydia acting like a complete arse, all his character development thrown out the window.
- Lydia forgot how to act and just seemed depressed the whole movie.
- I don't see how you can make this movie without Stiles.. his own reason for not being in it is the exact reason why it failed - it was too fast.
- Peter Hale seemed out of place, missed their chance with a great character here.
- The ending with Derek felt completely pointless, like the writers threw it in whilst they were filming the scene.
Overall it felt very rushed and too compact, they could have made this a 3 part series, created a new enemy, kept old relationships that I enjoyed the development of (Chris & Melissa, Scott & Malia, Stiles & Lydia). The writers and creators had the chance to nail this, instead it felt like an empty attempt.
If there's another movie or any follow up I will of course watch it, but I really hope they take the feedback from their fans.
Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers (2018)
Confused by the reviews
Whilst I enjoyed listening to Bob this isn't a great documentary but also not awful.
First of all what confuses me in the reviews is that people say Jeremy makes it about him and doesn't focus on Bob.. umm what?? The whole thing is about Bob, ofc Jeremy will be in it but it's a lot more Bob talking. Secondly saying things like he never talks about anything else, it's not supposed to about a load of information we've never heard, it's a docu on Lazar. People seem overly upset giving 1 star reviews.
What I didn't like is the special effects between clips.. they were awful, and the narration by Rourke is just disturbingly cringe and over the top.. other than that it's decent, gave me some extra insight, and it captures Bob's character well outside of other interviews/podcasts.
