The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
I wish I could give 0 stars
I attempted to watch the first 3 episodes, and they were truly awful. The first one was probably the least objectionable, although all 3 were full of the now normal Hollywood tripe. Some big name actors with really nothing to work with, sets so dark that you can barely see anything. I know, people claim that makes it more suspenseful, but it really doesn't add to any suspense at all. Don't even get me started on all the diversity for diversity's sake, or the over-sexualization of stuff. This is just a creepy show, and not creepy as in suspenseful/thriller type, but creepy as in "don't let your kids near it" creepy. This is not an homage to Poe, and in fact, he's probably rolling in his grave that this is even being tangentially linked to his stories. If you want good suspense/horror/thriller, this isn't it, if you want good Poe, this isn't it. For that, look to Hitchcock or to older movies that are adaptations, such as those starring Vincent Price or other fine actors. This has a few good actors, and the rest are just along for the ride, but it's a ride to nowhere because they had nothing good to work with. I really don't know what the folks who rated this so highly were watching, it's hard to imagine it was the same episodes, but maybe they just haven't seen the really good horror flicks ;)
The Flash (2023)
crap movie with crap actor in title role
How do you write 600 characters or more for such a load of crap as this? Well, according to thedirect, "The Ezra Miller-led epic reportedly will force Warner Bros. (WB) to lose upwards of $200 million, despite all the hype from the studio leading into it." So, there is that. I really don't know how so many people gave it such a high rating, although most of those are saying that Keaton stole the show, and they're right. That was the ONE bright spot in this otherwise crap movie. Miller is a horrible actor, and apparently and equally horrible, if not more horrible person. One look at him, and you can see he is a deeply disturbed, drug-addled individual who has apparently been led to confusion about many things in his life, and maybe that has led to some of his apparent rage and acting out. But, he's an adult, and needs to own the bad things he's done and make corrections to become a decent person.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Great flight scenes, but completely predictable movie
The movie itself, including the dialogue, was completely predictable. But, if you're not watching this movie for the plot or dialogue, then just sit back and enjoy the really awesome flight scenes. We all know how the movie is going to go, at least, anyone who saw the original or any other movie of a similar genre does. So, don't go in expecting any deeper meaning or plot twists or anything like that. Just good, clean, fun action flick when there was action. It did start out a bit slow, but if you hang in there, you'll be rewarded by the flights which truly are amazing. Tom Cruise looks pretty amazing for a 60 year old, too.
Killing Eve (2018)
First couple seasons were good, then took a nosedive
The first couple seasons were a bit fun and interesting, while at the same time being quite disturbing, sick, and twisted. The third season was really kindof "eh" and the last season should never have even been made. It was just bad all around. The whole series is quite perverse, and like a trainwreck that you just can't look away from. I really don't understand the rave reviews from some, but I guess that shows how sick our society is these days. We need more quality entertainment, and this was most certainly not it.
Goliath (2016)
First 3 seasons were awesome!
The first 3 seasons were really great, and I wasn't really expecting a 4th season given how they ended the 3rd season. The 4th season was ok, but was just a bit too weird for me. The writers seemed to be trying to throw several different genres all together in the last season, and it ended up being rather messy and not nearly as interesting as it could have been if they had just picked one genre and stuck with it. Too bad the series has ended, it could have been a real powerhouse for many years, if they had kept going the way they were the first 3 seasons, but ending it with a season of weirdness was a bit of a bummer. I still enjoyed much of the last season, just not as gripping and enjoyable as it could have been. Makes me wonder if the writers were smoking something or just trying too hard to be "creative" LOL.
The Flash (2014)
The Flash is getting worse with every episode
This was a fun series for awhile, in the beginning, but it's gotten very old and keeps getting stupider (yes, I know that's not a word) with every episode. I'm done watching this stupid show, it's no longer fun or fresh, just dreary and stupid and the characters are becoming more and more unlikeable. The entertainment industry clearly doesn't care about entertaining anymore, just about pushing their narratives and putting out stuff nobody wants to watch. I'll waste no more time on this trash.
Manifest (2018)
It started out good, but went downhill the last season especially
It was a new, fresh idea and started out pretty good despite poor acting abilities by pretty much everyone involved. The first couple of seasons were really good because of the newness of it and the fact that you didn't really know where it was going. Then is started going downhill, but I kept hoping it would get back to being good. Sadly, that was not the case. The final season was bad, and the finale was a horrible jumble of idiocy, bad acting, disjointed/jumbled story lines as they tried to go in too many directions at once while really going nowhere, and, of course, a lot of political BS and SJW themes thrown in for good measure. I can't believe how bad the ending was - no resolution to anything, only more questions and the aforementioned BS. It's almost like they hired brand new writers for the final show and told them to just do whatever they wanted. So, the first couple of seasons would get about a 7 or 8 star rating from me, the rest until the final few airings would get about a 4 - 6 star rating, and the last few episodes would get 1 or 2 stars from me, for an average of 4 - 5 stars. I'm being quite nice, by giving it 5 ;)
The Marksman (2021)
Not even Liam Neeson could save this
I like Liam Neeson movies, but even he couldn't save this stupid movie. Aside from a couple good action scenes, it really has no redeeming qualities to it.
The Man in the High Castle (2015)
Seasons 1 and 2 were good, 8-star, but season 3 is not good
The first two seasons were good. Suspenseful, but of course, dystopian. Season 3 so far is not good at all, just mostly a steaming pile. Still dystopian, as expected, but throwing a lot of other junk in there that really doesn't "belong" and only serves to make it as stupid as much of the rest of television these days. I'm being intentionally vague because I don't want to have spoilers in here. If they don't get back in stride, then I'll not be watching any more of this junk.
Update: The 3rd season finally picked up some steam. It's still not as good as seasons 1 and 2, but at least it's watchable after you get past the first few episodes of season 3. I hope it will continue to get better, and that season 4 will be more like seasons 1 and 2. It really shouldn't take 3 - 5 episodes of a 10-episode season to get to the good stuff, writers!
Arrow: Present Tense (2019)
Another episode ruined by SJW politics
The action was good, but the otherwise decent episode was ruined by inserting virtue signaling and leftist politics into it. Enough already! Viewers on both sides of the aisle are sick of it. I won't say where these things were in the episode, you'll see and hear it for yourself. Ruined a perfectly good series with this garbage.
The Twilight Zone: The Comedian (2019)
What a horrible start!
The first episode was just awful. A comedian that wasn't funny, and an episode that was pointless other than to push some PC agenda down everyones' throats. What a waste of time! I was really looking forward to this, but it is nothing like the original and does a huge disservice to the memory of the great Twilight Zone of old. A whole episode spent on a "comedian" who wasn't funny and who was just an arrogant, egotistical a-hole. Leave the politics out of shows and make decent entertainment instead of focusing so much on PC and checking off the various demographics you think you must include in everything, and you'll have much more popular and well-received shows. Oh, and have an actual plot maybe? This episode could have been a 5-minute short and still have been 4.5 minutes too long. Bad, just bad. I really don't know what people were giving it such high reviews and saying it's such a masterpiece, unless they were the ones who were involved in writing and producing it and are trying to save their ratings. That's how very awful this episode was. Some reviews are saying the 2nd episode is MUCH better, so I might give that a shot, but not completely sure this series even deserves a second shot.
Impulse (2018)
Surprisingly engaging
The first couple of episodes weren't great, but were engaging enough to keep me watching, and toward the end of the season, and especially the last couple of episodes it got quite good. Very odd at times, of course, and a bit of a mix of "afterschool special" with "thriller" with "sci-fi" and tons of teenage angst and attitude, but still a decent show. Cliffhanger to keep us wanting a second season. I really don't get why the makeup artists insisted on giving all the women huge, dark, caterpillar-like eyebrows while having the men have normal eyebrows. Is that a thing? LOL I know, it's a minor quibble, but I did fnd it rather distracting, and I hope the makeup people do a better job at giving the women normal eyebrows for season 2. I don't usually notice minor things like that, but for some reason, I just couldn't seem to ignore it in this show. Aside from that minor quibble, I found the show to be enjoyable and looked forward to each new episode after the first few. By the last episode of season 1, I was disappointed that the season had ended, it got really good the last 2 - 4 episodes. Very much looking forward to a season 2!
Strike Back (2010)
The first 5 seasons/series were great! After that, trash.
I give season 1 a 9 - 10 star rating. The first season was great with Porter - it grabs your attention right away, and Porter is very likable. Action, story, supporting actors, all great.
I give seasons 2 - 5 a 9 - 10 star rating. Seasons/series 2 - 5 are also great with Scott and Stonebridge, two very likable main characters in their own way, and they have a good chemistry together. Excellent action, story, a bit too much nudity/sex for my taste, it really isn't needed to keep you glued to the show, but still a wonderful action series that I looked forward to watching. Near the end of season 5, it was clear it was the last season, at least with these actors, but they did a good job in how they handled the story lines. The supporting cast was excellent as well. The characters being likable helped draw you into the action and kept you eager for more.
I give season 6 a 2 star rating, and that's being generous for the action alone. The characters that started in season 6 are not at all likable to me, they're just blah, and the two main characters Wyatt and McCallister look too much alike even though they're very different personalities. Wyatt is just a joke, McCallister is just too bland. The supporting cast is equally unlikable, especially the one woman who is a total b*tch. The action is decent, but uneven, sometimes having virtually no action, and other times having tons of action, and the stories don't seem very compelling. It's hard to have a good show when you couldn't care less about the actors. The stories and action are not enough to draw you in. There's still more nudity/sex than I would care for, and maybe that's enough to compel some people to put up with the total lack of characters that you can care about, but not for me. I've given it a few episodes to see if they would grow on me, but they haven't. If anything, I'm even more blase about them now than I was in the beginning. Maybe I'll skip the rest of this season to see if it's better next season, but if it's all the same characters next season, I have little hope that the show will be any better.
I'm not sure why writers can't seem to sustain a show more than 4 or 5 seasons these days, but this isn't the only show I've experienced that with. There are a few, rare, shows that are still going strong long after 5 seasons, but not many seem up to the task these days.
Vikings: The Most Terrible Thing (2019)
No more narration, please!
I don't know why they insisted on having the narrator reading what was happening, but it's really quite tiring and distracting. Please, no more narration, just have the show without it, as normal!
Lethal Weapon (2016)
Season 3 not as good as seasons 1 and 2
They made a HUGE mistake in firing Clayne Crawford and killing off Riggs. He WAS the reason to watch the show. The new guy starting in season 3, Sean William Scott, is ok, but it's just not the same. Not the same level of crazy, not the same level of excitement, not the same level of fun. They've turned things too serious instead of sticking with fun comedy/action in a mostly family-friendly atmosphere (aside from the violence, of course). It's just "ok" now, and if it doesn't get back to being exciting and funny, I don't see it lasting past this season. They should have kept Crawford and just had him pay for extra insurance or something. Oh well, once again, a good show gets ruined by writers/producers thinking they can just get rid of the MAIN CHARACTER because they don't like something he/she has done. I hope Crawford gets his own show.
Last Man Standing (2011)
Last Man Standing is back!
So glad Last Man Standing is back! Love Tim Allen and his sense of humor, and it's really great to have a good, family-friendly comedy/show. It's really awful how many other shows on these days are just complete trash. LMS delivers a message with a soft touch and good comedy. THIS is who we are!
The Man in the High Castle (2015)

The Resident (2018)
Somewhat promising start ruined by 3rd episode
Good start, nice-looking doctors/nurses with snarky attitudes, looked like it would be a nice, fun show. But then, by the 3rd episode it just got way too political. These writers, producers, etc. need to quit trying to shove their politics down our throats and just entertain. Most of us are sick and tired of all the BS.
The Resident: Comrades in Arms (2018)
Got way too political
The show HAD shown some promise, but then they just had to go full libtard. The greedy corporate attitude of the top brass and accountants versus the poor DACA "kid" who just wants a better life after her parents abandoned her in OUR country, leaving us with the burden of raising her and paying all her bills. Oh, but she's a good, hardworking DACA who just wants a better life and has never known any other country, poor her! It'll cost a couple million, most likely, to cure her cancer, but that's fine, after all, she's a DACA kid, so she's more deserving than American kids. The "mean" charities think they should take care of American kids instead of DACA? How DARE they want to take care of Americans ahead of foreigners in America! OH, and then some meanie called immigration! OMG, the poor DACA kid! Please, spare me all this PC SJW BS in all the tv shows these days. Anyone who is honest with themselves would admit that if it came down to it, they would save their OWN family members before strangers. That's how life is, it's normal and natural. America putting Americans first is just an extrapolation of family taking care of family first. Another show no longer worth watching.
The X Files: The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat (2018)
This episode brought to you by political hacks
I don't know what kind of drugs the writers/producers were on when they wrote this pointless piece of trash episode. I know they probably think they're all edgy and political heroes for this anti-Trump episode, but it was just painful to watch the actors make such fools of themselves. Everyone involved in putting this steaming heap of waste on tv should truly be ashamed of themselves. We watch shows to be entertained, not to have them mock our President who is doing good things for our country, like him or not. Can you imagine the outrage if they had done an episode mocking Obama? Show used to be entertaining, but they really should have left the X-Files where it was at the end of last season. This season started out bad and has just gotten worse, and is now unwatchable. I'm sure the writers/producers don't want advice from their viewers, but my unsolicited advice to them is: quit taking whatever drugs you're taking, stay away from politics, get a reality check - things are actually getting better under Trump despite your obvious hatred of him. Oh, and grow up and see the world as it really is, not how you wish it was.
The Flash: Duet (2017)
If I wanted to watch a musical, I wouldn't be watching Flash
I doubt it's really a spoiler since the title of the episode is "Duet" but just in case, I ticked the "spoiler" box.
I watch Flash for the action and adventure, not for a lame musical. The only reason I gave a rating of 2 instead of 1 is because there was a good song in there. Still, I absolutely detest musicals, so I do NOT want to have Flash be a musical, even for one lousy, cheesy episode. I doubt the writers pay any attention to these boards or even care, but it was so truly awful that I had to write a review.
Continuum (2012)
Ending was about what you'd expect
I thought the series was really good, and the ending was about what you'd expect. I wish they would have had a full season to wrap it up, though, instead of trying to cram everything into 6 episodes. That really made them have to skip a lot of things and constantly left me thinking I missed an episode somewhere in between even though I hadn't. Having a 6-episode final season was better than having the show just dropped, don't get me wrong, but it didn't quite do it justice like a full final season would have. I felt this show was good, creative sci-fi, and it's a real shame that it got cancelled since they could have done so much more with it. Still, despite those nits I've picked, it was worth watching, and I would recommend it to any sci-fi fan.
Dr. Ken (2015)
Trying too hard makes it come across as creepy, not funny
I haven't seen this actor before, so came into this with no specific expectations. I'm sure they're just trying to be funny with the script and the overacting, but instead of coming across as funny, it comes across as being really creepy. This show is a total failure IMHO, so bad I can't even bear to give it a second chance after the horrible pilot. It's rare that I hate a show that much, I'm usually willing to at least give a show one more shot after the pilot since pilots can be pretty rough work. I just can't see this show lasting, although many shows I thought were bad do last and ones I've really loved get cancelled. I guess only time will tell, but my verdict is "skip it!"
