Abigail (2024)
Run....do not walk to see this movie in the theater
I am a very loud and proud member of Gen X and our go to vampire Movie is "fright night". Until I saw "Abigail" I thought fright night was the best vampire movie ever. I stand corrected. Abigail is fantastic on every conceivable level. Great casting great storyline great action great dialogue. It will scare the heck out of you. Yes there's lots of blood, but it is a vampire movie, after all. I highly highly highly recommend seeing this movie, if you're a fan of the horror genre, which I am. Also, not unlike "Barbie"it's very female empowering and get this... The main character is a vampire ballerina. It just doesn't get any better than that. If I could give this movie 20 out of 10 stars, I would do it. Go see it immediately... If not sooner.
The Post (2017)
Strong Prequel to "All The President's Men"
For all of us Nixon/Watergate junkies, this is a must see. The cast is absolutely phenomenal. The storyline is intriguing and the ending is perfect.
I didn't give this 10 stars because I feel like there could've been a short scene with Woodward and Bernstein... Maybe a comical attempt at them trying to nose in on all the action at the post and the more season reporters kicking them out. Whether or not that actually happened wouldn't really matter. I just think it would be a nice addition to the movie and a nice tie in to the sequel, all the presidents men.
Having said that, I really think there should be a required movie for political science majors to watch, followed by of course all the presidents men.
Meryl Streep portrait of Graham has made me a huge Graham fan.
Shirley (2024)
Regina King Oscar Contender
Regina King IS Shirley Chisholm in this movie. Every single American... Especially women of color...NEEDS to see this movie. It's a real eye-opener on how women continue to get screwed in the political arena. Also, it's pretty educational with respect to how delegates work during a democratic convention. The casting is phenomenal. I only gave this an 8 out of 10 stars because I feel like it could've been longer. Casting is phenomenal...I loves me some Terrence Howard. Highly highly highly recommend! One final thought... I worked for a member of Congress in the late 1990s and I always knew there was tension between Barbara Lee and Ron Dellums. Now I understand why.
Homicide: New York (2024)
If your a law and order fan, you will love this series.
I hesitate to give this a 10 out of 10 because I think it was tone deaf of Dick Wolf to have Elizabeth Lederer so prominently featured in one of the storylines. If you know the story of Elizabeth Lederer and the Exonerated Five, then you know what I mean by this criticism if you don't then do some googling. I think her perspective was not needed at all because she represents, in my opinion, the racial injustice of the United States' inherently injustice system. Seems to me that Wolf could've interviewed any other ADA who was working that case besides her. I don't know if she's come out and made any kind of official apology, but I think steering clear of her would've been the better option. And I would steer clear of her and Linda Fairstein in the future.
The Irrational (2023)
Off to a great start
First off, I am a huge fan of Jesse L Martin. He could literally just sit in a chair for an hour, and I would be thoroughly entertained. Having said that, this show is worth the watch. Especially for us FBI profiler junkies and wanna crime solvers. And a shout out to the actress who plays his sister. She really adds a wonderful comedic angle to the show. And she's just plain fabulous.
The other characters are also quite amusing. I feel like there's a lot of potential for more character development and I'm really looking forward to that.
Again, if you're a law and order junkie or an ID discovery channel junkie, you will really like this show.
