After Ever Happy (2022)
A brilliant movie about relationships
Who are you without your loved one? Can you stay separate? This movie's biggest strength comes from character development. Although the ending left me on a cliffhanger, the movie is satisfying due to beautiful acting and character development.
The movie is also messy because it portrays a messy relationship. But what's clear in the movie is that it is very empowering to see a woman find herself despite her regressions. Progress is messy, and it can be one step back, two steps forward.
I am grateful that I went to see this movie. Would recommend that you do the same if you like the other After movies! Plus, I liked this one more than the third movie.
Along for the Ride (2022)
Such a heartwarming movie!
This movie is great, especially if you like teen flicks, or watching people discover themselves. Characters are well developed as the movie is based on a novel. Acting is also great. Dialogues are well written, soundtracks are awesome, and scenes are fun to watch. What else would you expect from a romance movie?
Dangerous Lies (2020)
Not bad - I give it 6.5
I enjoyed watching this movie. Although it is slightly predictable, it still gets you to be curious and suspicious. Tension was there throughout the movie. I say if you like thrillers and mysteries, give it a shot. It's a cool movie to snack on.
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
A big butterfly shows up...
Characters are not well built-up, so you can hardly go inside of them to feel the story. The movie is overly plot-driven so that I found myself thinking of the plot throught the entire film. It is not sure if it is a sci-fi or psychological movie. It tries to be both, but misses both of them. It tries to be psychological as Evan tries to remember his traumatic memories, and it tries to be sci-fi as he can change his life as he goes back in time. Trying to hook sci-fi and psychology at the same item (memory of Evan) of the story makes the movie ambigious, and plot is already complex. Trying to follow both pathways in that complexity makes the audience fall out from the movie. I spent the entire movie trying to figure out what the movie is about, could not enjoy watching it. If the movie worked on the characters I would at least feel identification with them, then the other things about the movie would be a lot easier and enjoyable.
This is a film that tries to be a movie. Such as a butterfly that tries to get its both wings and loses them all and fails to be a butterfly, this film tries to be both sci-fi and psychological, at the end, it ends up having neither of the components, and fails to be a movie.
The most enjoyable thing was a big butterfly showing up while I was watching!
Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things (2015)
A documentary lacking depth in content
Documentaries are here to provide in-depth information and knowledge on facts about a subject. This movie is like a minimalism 101: introduction class with advertisement that will actually get you buy the book. It is boring to hear the same idea over and over again. I was expecting to learn more about minimalism, but that could not add more than one or two articles I read online. It added one thing though, how different people apply minimalism. In a world of society that is so focused on consumerism, it is good to see variety of ways of applying minimalism to our life.
Be ware: It makes you want to throw away the garbage you do not need!
Westworld (2016)
Failed to keep my interest
The story is so appealing and I had very high hopes for this show as it also has very good production. However, the characters and the processing of the scenerio are so boring that I could only stand the first 25 minutes of the first episode. Maybe it was slow for introducing the characters and giving a baseline, but that should be done in an interesting way too.
I could not find anything interesting in the show although I had so much interest in the story. To compare with, Orphan Black was not a show that I was interested in its story that much, but it succeed to keep my interest to its very last minute of the last episode of the last season. The show being interesting and the content being interesting are two different things. Nevertheless, I am giving this 5 because of its visuals, production and shooting. To admit, they are really good.
Palo Alto (2013)
Feels like there is a scenerio, but there is not
Really, there is nothing about this movie except seeing some teenage lives. They are told in a superficial way, not in a deep & elaborative way. I like the movie with its music and scenes, and I like the time watching it. However, I am not satisfied with how the so-called plot developed. Events come to a point, but they do not meet in a common point, so the plot is scattered. What I can say about that is lazy writing.
If you want to fill your time up or need a movie that does not require paying attention to the plot or following the story, watch this.
If you want to see a teenage movie, there are much better ones like 10 Things I Hate About You, Thirteen, etc etc.
Lucia (2013)
A good movie for people who are interested in lucid dreaming and etc. stuff
It is sometimes nice to watch other than Holywood movies as they have a different way of telling the experience. Here, the dream and reality were told through a romantic relationship. Some musical scenes were hard to stand but cinematography was well done thoughout the movie, so the movie shows its artistic side in both content and way of telling.
You can watch it as an artistic and romantic expression of the experience with Lucia, which blurs the lines between the reality and the dream. It comes hard to separate them at some point for the audience too, but that does not scare away much as it is very artistic and warm. At least, that was the case for me.
I also like the message the movie gave: Like your destiny, it could be the best for you. Therefore, it makes you question the logic behind wishing to live another life. Shall we live in a dream or make our dreams come true? This is the take-home message I got from the movie.
All in all, it is a nice movie especially if you are bored with Holywood and want to see something different. I like the artistic side of the movie and the message given. It is very hard to make a movie in that the lines between reality and dream is blurred. The movie is successful in that sense. Nevertheless, some scenes were very long and boring and it is overrated because it gives you low expectations. Low expectations come from being an Indian movie and the difficulty of making this story into a movie as I guess.
Death at a Funeral (2007)
My favourite comedy movie that brought tears into my eyes while laughing!!!
This movie is absolutely great. The sense of humour is well done, and it is very British. If you like British humour or dark humour, you'll love this movie! And I should say that I do not like comedy movies much, but I love this one. Scenerio is well written and everything in the movie fits together. The movie is certainly successful at expressing a lot in short scenes, and in a manner that is blended in the movie, while making the audience laugh and surprise. I strongly suggest this movie if you want to have a good time. Even if it does not come as funny, it is certainly not a boring one.
The Martian (2015)
Too much melodrama for 2 hours and 20 mins
The subject of the movie is very good, a man who tries to survive in Mars in isolation and tries to make a connection with the world, again in order to survive. The unbearable thing about the movie is too much melodrama. There is melodrama in every scene, even at the cheerful ones. Music, shooting and acting are so overwhelmingly dramatic that movie does not even let you experience its drama; it goes through all emotions by itself. In other words, the events and their reflection on us are shadowed by the over dramatization in the movie. Additionally, the structure of the scenerio is also overwhelming, as there are many peaks of it, presented through the very dramatic music. That degree of melodrama is bearable when the world is attacked by aliens or zombies, and there are actions scenes. Stay away from this movie if you do not like melodrama, but you may like it if you LOVE the subject or fan of the book or any actor in the movie.
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is an excellent movie!
I must say that I enjoyed this show very much. I never got bored during 1 and half hour, and this is very rare for me not to get bored even for one second during a movie. This is not because I like Ted & Bill or anything in the show, this is because the movie keeps itself alive and brings something new at every scene. I also must say that I like Bill & Ted, and Keanu Reeves played really well that I did not even recognize that he was Keanu Reeves. The scenerio also makes a lot of sense and its storyline is very coherent. One more thing I love about this movie is that it gives two great messages: Be excellent to each other and party on! The movie is very enlightened in this manner. It made me laugh without sexist, racist or mean jokes. The movie itself is very funny, fresh and cheering! Go watch it and have fun.
Absentia (2011)
Shaky Camera Syndrome with Too Long Scenes
This movie could have been better in a lot of ways. The camera was shaking whole time, cinematography was not well done, it seemed amateur. Most of the scenes were unnecessarily long and that made the movie boring. Although acting part was quite good, the soundtrack was dull and repetitive. There could be one more soundtrack.
Other than those issues, movie was quite enjoyable. The story line is well documented. The movie lets the audience the mystery and the other life to imagine, it does not solve it. It rather claims that anything, any occurrence can be perceived and interpreted differently. I liked that it left some part of the story to my imagination. Another thing that is good about this movie is it is a good psychological thriller. It depicts well how fears disturb humans, and how people get stuck and isolated in their fears.
P.S.: There is not gore but there are jump scares. :)
Mr. Robot: eps3.4_runtime-err0r.r00 (2017)
The best thrilling thing I've ever seen
This episode is excellent. It is very thrilling, and keeps you up every second of 46 minutes. I watched it wondering what will happen at the next second, and I felt for the characters. It also made me feel real paranoid of everything for a moment. Well, this episode sucked my soul on to it, it did not just capture my full attention and was not just a show that something was happening every second. For the time I watched it, I found myself living through what they dealt with, and felt like I was in every corner of Ecorp. This was better than any game or virtual reality thing in case of how REAL I felt it subjectively. I even wish that I could watch it like the first time, without any spoiler from my past self. I think it was that much real because of the flow of the story line and cinematography of it, for which I can give 10 out of 10. Watch it for yourself, and see it for yourself.
The Babadook (2014)
A psychological movie that investigates the psychology of horror
Well, I am a horror fan, and I would not say that this movie is a horror movie. This is more like a psychological movie that investigates the "psychology of horror". It is not intended to make you scary, it is intended to have you understand your fears, and how you construct them both consciously and unconsciously. It says that the more you deny Babadook, the bigger it gets. Our emotions, especially intense ones are just like that. The more you try not to be scared, the more you get scared. Or the more you deny that you feel are afraid of something, the fear gets actually bigger inside you, unconsciously. As Freud says, "the emotions that are repressed never go away.", as I remember. And at the end of the movie (here comes the spoiler), mom, who repressed her fear, experiences a catharsis of emotions, and faces herself. She differentiates between herself and her fear at this stage. Afterwards, everything becomes much more relaxed.
I am giving this movie 7 out of 10 because it fails to have the story in a concise way. It has excessive prolongations. Though, the story is worked in a clear way, and it is a really good one.
Banshee Chapter (2013)
Well... If you like creepy stuff, you should give it a shot.
I watched Banshee Chapter because the topic had my interest. Actually, MK ultra is a real experiment that was done between years of 1953 and 1973. The story-line of the movie was very clear and easy to follow, but there were really bad mistakes of the movie. They were unreasonable, and not even related to the stupidity of any character. These mistakes made the movie unrealistic. There were also some stuff left unexplained at the end of the movie, this also made it unrealistic. Even though, I was really captured by the movie and its jump scares. Some scenes were so tense that I knew a few jump scares before coming. Though, they still made me jump. If it was also realistic in reasonable consideration, I would find the movie much better.
What I can say is that watch it if you are interested in the subject matter of the movie and if you like creepy stuff. And watch it as a creepy thriller movie. Otherwise, watching the movie would be a waste of time for you.
The Gift (2015)
Predictable and slow
What I found good in this movie was the acting part. The movie was well played, especially the acting of Gordon was very good. The story is also interesting, and apart from clichés. As the movie goes on, it keeps the audience wondering about what is the truth to the story. Although it kept me watching with curiosity, I was kind of bored because of its slow progress. The ending was not that surprising as I expected that it would be. The cinematography was also quite good, as being one of the things that kept me watching.
After all, I am not very glad to see this movie, but I also do not regret it because of the interesting story.
Get Out (2017)
A rare kind of horror movie with fluent watching experience
The plot is very well written and away from Clichés, though it has some inspirations and the house in the movie is very familiar. Characters are not extremely stupid like in most of the horror movies, and this makes the movie enjoyable as you find a little bit reasoning. The third part I liked was that the movie scares without gruesome or bloody images, and there are not any jump scares. The movie actually scares the audience with thought and getting inside of the mind. Throughout the movie, a mysterious ambiance follows, and this makes the movie fluent. Lastly, cinematography is really good. With this good cinematography, acting and fiction are well reflected toward audience. Otherwise, the movie would be wasted. Overall, I liked the movie very much as a rare type of horror movies.
