Candy (2022)
Better than most
As someone who relies on this site for reviews, I felt I should start reviewing myself!
As a true crime enthusiast, I knew I would enjoy this from the start.
I really enjoyed Jessica Biel in "The Sinner" knowing she was producer for that, as well as actress.
She completely surpassed herself, this was brilliant.
I don't even know if she was involved in production, but was amazing as a character.
I haven't yet delved into my obsessive true story googleness but I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
This was a believable story, even if details were tweaked.
The flash backs and time line were comprehensive and suspenseful, had me hanging on every episode..
Loved it.
Managed to watch in one sitting.
War of the Worlds (2019)
Different!
Don't be put off by bad reviews. I really enjoyed this series, enough to come back and watch all three. Story good, acting good, could have done without subtitles, but that's just me. As a War of the Worlds fan, I was a little bit disappointed that there wasn't more reference to the original story, but I soon got over that, as a whole new story erupted. Yes it's a little slow in places, but makes up for it with suspense and cliffhangers. It can get complicated in places, so pay attention, I had to have a rewind if I zoned out here or there. I actually think I would watch this again to see if I missed anything.
Jack and Jill (2011)
Sandler Magic
Seen this film a few times. Can't understand the bad reviews. Laughs all round. Double Sandler!!! What can be wrong?? Laugh a minute! If anyone else was cast as his sister, it would just be wrong. Loved it.
Dreamgirls (2006)
Sing don't shout!
Enjoyed the film, brilliant acting and story. Unfortunately I had to turn the volume down on Jennifer Hudson songs. I don't like people shouting though songs! Just sing, you've been gifted a natural voice, no need to scream and shout!!! That's my only criticism.
Love You To Death (2019)
Not factual...but
I have watched several documentaries/movies on the Gypsy Rose/Dee Dee story.
Read the reviews on IMBD and knew it would be bad :o(
BUT... my fascination led me to watch it anyway.
I'm glad I did!
I found the acting as good as can be expected.
Facts meh.
Not factual at all!!!!!
The best I could take from it, was the representation of the Father!
He has always been missing from most things I've watched (and I've watched a lot)
This film actually showed his "what the F is going on with my daughter?"
Showed his love from birth, not just from her being in prison!!!
He always wanted to be in her life, but Dee Dee pushed him away :o(
(as she knew it would expose the non-illness)
I recommend the drama "The Act"
Or factual documentary
"Mommy Dead and Dearest"
Selena: The Series (2020)
Selena can't play Selena :o(
Watched the first half over xmas 2020 whilst wrapping presents and loved it.
Yes it's slow, but it's a series, what do you expect?
You can't blow it all in one episode!
I previously didn't know about Selena until the Jennifer Lopez movie, being from the Uk.
I loved that film.
When I looked Selena up after the film I was amazed at Lopez' performance.
When I seen this series was coming out I was so excited, as I felt they'd be able to fit so much more of her life into a series rather than a 2 hr film.......
...and they did.
I felt the actress who portrayed Selena was amazing.
Hard shoes to fill, with all you armchair critics :o(
Sure, she's not going to be Selena, as she's no longer here!!
Give her a break!
If any critic, I would say I would have liked a real Selena montage at the end as tribute.
But maybe a studio conflict there, dunno.
But I really enjoyed it.
