The Magic Prank Show with Justin Willman (2024)
Too much talk, too little magic
For a magic show there is very little magic in the show and most of it is also accomplished or aided by the magic of editing. They show something happening from one angle, switch angle and show something else but in reality those two things didnt happen back to back. Big part was left in cuttingroom floor. This is kinda sad since Willman has skills to do magic properly...
The whole structure of the show is very boring. Spectator doesnt care or want to watch 25min backstory and motivation in order to see the end result. This whole serie could have been edited down to one single hour long episode without missing anything.
Jason Bourne (2016)
Jason Bourne is totally beat up by "three cuts per second" and shaky cam
I am a fan of the original trilogy. They are one of the best action-spy movies of the last 10 years but sadly the new movie in the series isn't nearly as good. I would go as far to say that it was just made in hopes of making quick buck.
The script is really bad. Its easy enough to fool but it doesn't really expand the previous movies in the series any way... Jason Bourne has been missing for years, he comes back without a clear reason, does his thing and goes back to where he came... The movie really didn't need to happen at all.
The worst thing however is the action scenes and they are plenty. I have NEVER seen so many cuts done in action scenes. Camera easily cuts 3-4 times EVERY SECOND! Add the most shaking camera to that and it is PAIN trying to figure out what is going on in action scenes. This totally ruined the movie for me. It will be the only movie in Bourne franchise that I don't want to see ever again. Save your money until it comes from TV
Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Boring story, uncharismatic characters and messy shakycam action scenes make this hard to watch
I haven't watched any of the original series or its follow up of Star Trek. I always found em extremely boring and the lack of major plot lines that continued thruout the series made em totally unwatchable for me. Because of this the first two new Star Trek movies were extremely positive experiences. All my friends complain that they weren't "Star Trek" cos they were too action oriented... If this was the case then this might be a movie that interests fans of the franchise but average scifi loving movie goer is left totally cold. The characters just aren't interesting, they don't have anything that drags the watcher in and the plot in general is way too common and full of plot holes. However what makes the movie total PAIN to watch is the MTV editing where shot rarely lasts more than second and camera IS SHAKY AS H**L!!! Also 3D effects are totally lost since movie is so dark that 3D makes it look blurry.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
I wanted it to be great but sadly its just okay
First of all I have to write that I was a huge Man of Steel fan so I wanted BvS to be as good or even better! The movie has positives but also negatives and critics have been somewhat right on their reviews. From a fan point it has couple of truly great comicbook movie moments, looks great and action is very well shot. Sadly there is actually only a few action pieces in the movie considering its 2,5hour movie. The main fight between Batman and Superman is maybe 10mins if even that.
Casting wise they did a good job. Ben Affleck truly nails older battle weary Batman. Gadot is good Wonder Woman but she is on the screen so little that it could have been really anyone. Irons is great Alfred but Eisenbergs Luthor was... Well... different... Some people seem to hate him, so people seem to love him. I didn't really care much of him... Main problems with Lex are that his motivations and what drives him are never clear and people are left wondering why he did what he did.
The main problems of the movie are its focus and pacing. The first 90mins or so of the movie it keeps following 4-6 subplots at the same time and its jumping all over the place because of that. It can be tough to follow at the times. The world building for larger DCU is there and mostly it is done well with the exception of "dream sequences"... They are left way too vague and never talked again afterwards.
Also the ending is two edged sword. I personally felt that this was not the time or place for doomsday. I understand why they did it but in my opinion he was wasted here and he didn't seem like big thread enough to warrant the trinity nor the outcome where it all lead into.
Its worth seeing but sadly its not amazing...
