The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Good Show but this isn't Star Wars (to me)
I enjoyed watching most episodes of the show. However there are quite some issues in my opinion: SPOILERS
- The while Tuskan plot was stretched over a way too long period of time to ultimately culminate in nothing - The Tuskans are dead and that's it. It's a very long story about how Boba received his war stick (there're way better and quicker ways to obtain one of these)
- The whole setting was forced into a samurai cowboy western (which Star Wars has never been, at least not to me):
- All of the story does not explain how Boba devolved from a feared, highly skilled bounty hunter to a naive, overcaring, almost anti violence grandpa incapable of defending himself.
- Most of this show Boba Fett behaves like a passive Player Character of a game, running around and accepting illlogical quests while completely forgetting all of his decades of experience and skills.
- Many episodes do a poor job of portraying the Jedi (imo). They are way too over-mystified, unemotional codex-machines.
- Most episodes really felt like filler episodes, sadly
- The show is carried by Mando who also seems weirdly hollow.
- The biker kids are a stark contrast to the whole setting: They don't look like they belong (for style and logical reasons) in the setting, or the planet at all. Their augmentations are plainly weird, like those characters walked straight out of cyberpunk into Star Wars.
The whole show gave me no Star Wars vibes, sadly. It felt hollow to me. The highlight of all of it was Mando's first appearance, that's sadly it.
I'd wished for less forced western and more Star Wars, with no abused and misunderstood native people (Tuskans) and an actual capable, cunning and highly skilled Boba.(Why did Mando drop the saber several times without picking it up again across the last few episodes?)
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Emotional Rollercoaster - True Star Wars though a bit too fast-paced
The movie manages to turn the crap that Star Wars 8 was into gold. *SW 8 was crap for a Star war's movie and did not convey any feeling associated with Star Wars.
The Rise of Skyealker is all around very enjoyable and includes a lot of story that makes sense. The movie is an emotional rollercoaster which is great and keeps you staring at the screen craving for MORE!
The downsides are:
The movie feels a bit too fast paced (ESP. at the beginning) which stops the characters from showing emotions to the loss of loved ones and the likes which is a pity. A slower pace would have made this movie a masterpiece!
Overall despite what critics say the movie is very enjoyable, thrilling and very very Star-Wars-y in every good way and it feels like a dignified end to the Skywalker Saga. It answers a lot if not all questions left and is (imo) what the movie franchise needed.
Watch it, you won't regret it!
Ghost Wars (2017)
Good Story
Soft spoilers without giving away anything of the actual story.
The story is compelling and exciting to watch, great job there.
The end however ruins a lot. Too many questions left unanswered, quite anti-climatic, there's quite a logic gap as well and the main character seems to act out of character.
Besides of that: 6/10 stars. If the ending wasn't as...well bad as it is it would be a 9.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
An enjoyable Re-Introduction into Star Wars
I'd like to give it a 8.5.
First off you will find the movie in many ways familiar, which is intended and something I like about it. If you are a person who's against everything new, you will have a hard time with this movie.
This movie does a great job at picking up old structures and repackaging them for the viewer. In my opinion this is great; the younger generation will have a easier time finding their way into the Star Wars Universe, while the older generation gets a lot of nostalgia which felt great.
Many questions arise throughout the movie, but this is to be expected for a movie that I would claim to be a introduction.
At first I thought of the characters as being shallow, but the closer you draw to the end of the movie, the deeper they become. I am sceptical towards Finn though, he seems too funny and twirly most of the time.
**Spoiler** Against what most people say: The way I remember it coruscant wasn't even targeted by the Death-Planet.
Kylo isn't a real Sith. He is a troubled boy who isn't evil but is trying hard to be the bad guy (which fits for his role but leaves the movie with the lack of a true villain). Additionally he lacks skill with the lightsaber (though he had several years of training) and gets beaten by an untrained force-user. Yet there's potential for him to become evil.
Sadly you don't get to know much about most of the characters which makes them feel a little shallow (but can be easily fixed with SW8) and Kylo isn't "villain" enough, the movie loses 1.5 points.
Summary: It's a very enjoyable movie which can be seen as a re-introduction into Star Wars. It contains a lot of nostalgia, fun, great scenes and costumes and a whole bunch of new and old characters.
