Sin La Habana (2020)
A little gem
I usually don't write reviews, but I think this movie deserves a little bit more attention and maybe some recognition for what is trying to represent. Starting fresh in a new country is not always so straight forward and the sacrifices some make on order to escape a dictatorial regime are hard to quantify for people born into a free country like Canada. Without revealing anything from the plot, if you like indie movies with a nice doze of good music and very realistic love story, give it a try and you might be surprised.
Newtopia (2020)
Very unique and insightful
I don't like to write reviews, but I think this documentary deserves one.
15 years is a long time to follow through a story and I think this unique movie made us see very clear an interesting slice of life from a unique culture that is not seeing much publicity outside Indonesia.
I dare to say that a lot of problems and complexities of life exposed here are quite universal and probably that makes this move quite important to see.
If there is a lesson to learn from this move is not one that probably most of the people will see it right away: don't be afraid to re-evaluate your values and happiness level in this crazy modern world.
I hope more people will see the move and will ponder about choices they make in their life with a more critique eye.
Lunana (2019)
Simple story but amazing scenery and cinematography
Bhutan!
My first film that talks about this country and I must say that it was quite captivating to listen and watch the people from this remote place:)
Albeit their claim of fame is how happy they are, at least at the official levels, the movies shows the regular life of villagers and city folks: not as happy as they say.
Love, community life, family , are all universal expressions that have been captured countless times in movies, but the unique setting of this particular movie, combined with a very unique culture, make this endeavor stand out!
Again, nothing ground-breaking here, but just a very enjoyable, well made movie.
