Hereditary (2018)
A complete nightmare.
This film starts off good and I love the photography, but the story line unravels. I see very little love in this family. Grandma dies and nobody cares, but Colette feels guilty. Anyway, this is a great anti drug film. It shows that you should never smoke pot or you'll be so desensitized that you dead sister just stays in the car, your burnt father is just another "Wow, man" and your crazy mother and oodles of naked strangers won't even make you run for the door. If I ever see those creeps in my place I am heading for the door and not upstairs. This just wasn't believable.
This place that they live seems to have no hospitals or police. There are no neighbors or anybody that cares about them. It's a complete town of strangers. Shouldn't the boy have had a girlfriend that was warning him? It was a totally disenfranchised, family, town and film. Glad I streamed it.
A Bigger Splash (2015)
Dull, dull, dull.
The story line dragged on and on. The characters were totally unlikable and it felt like I had company over for a couple hours that were most annoying. If the purpose of this film was to show how shallow creative types and their managers are then I get it. If it is to show how truly boring the rich can be, then I get it and if it is to show how monotonous the directors politics are then I guess this film could have some merit. Do not waste your money on this film. It goes nowhere. The scenery is dried up and obviously so was the writers mind. If you like old drunks dropping in for a couple weeks then you'll possibly like a film like this, but if you have a life and any self respect you'll watch another film. A film should not be drudgery.
When You're in Love (1937)
Grant, Moore and McMahon are funny!
Another light hearted romp from the 30's. Who doesn't like Cary Grant? This is an early glimpse into the comedic side of the Cary Grant we loved in so many films he made afterward. Miss Moore lights up the screen with her singing. Grace Moore was an opera star from the Met that found her way into film. She was nominated for Best Actress for her 1934 film "One Night of Love". Here an Australian opera singer needs to get to America but cannot get over the border and agrees to a plan. This movie has quite a bit of charm. I love the scenes of Mexico. One song in particular is a bit overdone but, all in all this is a nice romantic film. It may not be Shakespeare but it's a lot of fun.
