Jordskott (2015)
Unique and intriguing!
Jordskott, at first I thought it was a detective drama and my flatmate was very quick to dismiss it because of the subtitles. My advice, stick with it! I continued to watch it and found myself watching each episode twice.
Yes, it's a detective drama, but it's also a supernatural/fantasy story, one with a slightly disturbing underlying story - fantastic filming and acting, with a story that keeps you guessing right till the end.
Well worth a watch, the story doesn't drag and it'll open you up to more European dramas - you've just got to learn to read and watch at the same time :)
Forever (2014)
Gutted that it was axed! :(
Forever has unfortunately landed in the 'axed pile' which is a crime.
It is one of those series that had so much potential, fun and interesting story lines, characters that you warmed too, a plot that was unique and not totally far fetched.
The acting was great and there was a real sense of family and friendship on screen, not something that is easy when the lead is portraying a immortal man with a 'Son' who looks old enough to be his Grandfather.
A fantastic little show that was more than due a second season, I don't want to give too much away, so watch it and see for yourself!
War & Peace (2016)
Stunning!
Right, I'll cut to the chase, I've never read the book; War and Peace and the BBC Adaptation is the first time I've ever paid it any attention.
My main draws for watching the show were Lily James (Downton Abbey) and Tom Burke (The Musketeers) and a growing love for 'period dramas'...I was not disappointed. Lily James was adorable and endearing as 'Natasha' and portrayed the role of a 'ruined woman' very well. Tom Burke was transformed as the wolfish 'Dolokhov' and as always Jim Broadbent failed to disappoint.
The show also introduced me to several new actors whom I will be keeping a close eye on, namely Paul Dano who played 'Bezukhow'.
The costumes were beautiful and the settings stunning, a joy to watch!
Les revenants (2012)
So glad I found this show!
The Returned, or Les Revenants is a French drama I happened upon whilst shopping. Season 1 was £5 and I was looking for something a little different to watch and having read the back of the DVD I decided that 'it'd do...' - 'it'd do...' turned out to be really good.
Yes, it's got subtitles, something that I found pretty hard going at first - I found I was so busy reading that I wasn't really paying attention to what was happening. After a few failed starts though, I mastered it and boy, am I glad I did.
The Returned turned out to be a great find, so much so that I went on to watch season 2. It's unusual, keeps you guessing and is completely eerie - even now I find myself questioning theories - I'm really hoping that it comes back for a third season to answer many questions.
All in all, clever filming, writing and excellent performances by the actors!
Scream Queens (2015)
Hilarious!
Mean Girls x 100!
Clueless meets Scream!
I have absolutely fallen in love with this series (currently season 1), it combines snappy writing and characters that you love to hate.
Jamie Lee Curtis as Dean Munch is hilarious and the 'Channels' are so awful that you find yourself snorting with laughter.
Very cleverly written, darkly fantastic and compulsive watching - the first episode had me asking for more!
Watch it with an open mind because it's unlike anything you'll have ever seen!
Midnight Son (2011)
Well worth a watch!
A refreshing take on the vampire genre, good acting throughout and fresh ideas. Not your typical vampire yarn and thankfully a million miles away from the Twilight Saga. Jacob is both believable and likable and the actor did an amazing job in portraying him.
Tastefully filmed and and cleverly done, this is one of those films that you could go back and watch again and again.
If I could change anything about it, it would be the title; 'Midnight Son' - granted, it's an interesting name but I'm not sure if it lends much to the film.
Overall, great acting, great plot, great filming! Will definitely be on the look out for more of Scott Leberechts work! A solid 7/10 :)
The Walking Dead (2010)
Love this show, acting and character development 10/10
I've loved this show from the very beginning, yes, I consider myself a Walking Dead Old Timer :)
The effects continue to amaze me and the character development over the seasons means that there is a genuine sense of anxiety when the characters find themselves faced with zombies. I for one and many people I know have been reduced to tears and angry outbursts whist watching this show.
I CAN NOT Recommend THIS SHOW ENOUGH!!!
Yes, the zombies are amazing, but it has become more about the characters and breakdown of society and makes you question how you personally would cope in an apocalyptic event or natural disaster!
