Not that bad, for a B rated war movie
1 February 2007
I didn't think this movie was that bad. The Korean War is largely forgotten so the proud vets of that war can have pride in watching this. The set and some of the script is a bit tired and worn looking but it adds to the almost camp like atmosphere, which makes this almost a late night B movie classic. Is it a sanitized version of war? Well yea but what wasn't back then? War is awful and senseless, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't pay homage to the brave men who fought for us, even in a war as unpopular as this one, or was this a "police action"? Either way 54,000 men, mostly from the US, gave their lives, knowing that and realizing this was made in a simpler time when Presidents had their sexual dalliances covered up, baseball players hit 61 homers, cleanly, and we were all glued to watching a single Astronaut go into space 15 minutes and thought that was incredible ( and it was in 1961)well then that makes this a good ole B rated memory flick to watch.

Well.........if you don't like it, why then are you watching? And if you prefer Hell, well then enjoy the stay.

These guys can practice whatever they choose to, especially if it is clean and wholesome. So go cheat, rob, steal, commit adultery and live the life of a degenerated slob. And turn the channel too next time.

I also find some of these things a little off kilter but to think that an explosion, or some freak of science put all this here is a little juvenile and presumptuous I would say. We live in a world of deceit and lying and filth, and when a few try to do something decent they get buried...nice comment on us a people.

Go watch Girls Gone Wild

The usual garbage from the usual suspects

Not worth your time, your money, your emotions, your pity, your ability to articulate no matter how diminished. This is a totally subjective view point from a treasonous who espouses more sympathy for those that would destroy us rather than for the same country and system that helped him build his fortune. Hypocrisy at it's best/worst. Guys like Penn should be thankful that the same capitalistic, freedom loving system that he despises allows him him to have that very right. But he is too stupid to get that, or too manipulating. In years and eras gone by they would have tried him for treason or sedition and would have dealt with him in the most severe manner. What scares the most here is that there are those out there-many out there-that take what sewer water that spews out of the mouths of jerks like this and treat it as fact. Much like they did with that bloated self absorbed opportunist Michael Moore. Cmon hard core left, wake up-realize things aren't all bad and treat people based on fact and not well oiled innuendo and propaganda.

Sahara (I) (1943)
Very underrated

This is your basic run of the mill WWII era film in some regards but one that has a nice distinction in it as well. It isn't the normal flag waving, patriotic cinema that was so common during the war (1942-45), not that there is anything wrong that then or now,in that this movie has a dark grittier edge to it. It also gives the viewer that isn't well versed in the desert campaigns a true and accurate depiction of the hardships that faced the combatants-the intense heat by day, cool temps at night, the sand storms, the lack of water, the loneliness of being in a war-front most similar to the face of the moon. The fact that it was made during the war allows the props used to be quite accurate in not identical to what was being used in the real deal over in N Africa ( in fact the Allies were just mopping up in their final victory push in May 1943 when Patton was assigned by Eisnenhower to drive into Tunisia to offset the 8th Army under Montgomery coming from the east). The character development is solid, the acting I find is first rate with Boggy leading the way and a young Lloyd Bridges as well in the mix, and the scenery looks quite the real thing too. It seems to be pretty much right on the mark too with the historical accuracy which is so lacking in many films in the history genre these days ( witness the Untouchables and Braveheart to name a few) It is a classic...well I wouldn't go to that extent, but it is war film certainly worth attention by all film fans of the classic variety especially those interested in military history. And for the rest-seeing Bogart beating off the bad guys ( the Afrika Corps in this instance) in his dirty dingy Grant tank is certainly worth the price of admission.
