Absolutely...unbearable

I suppose what gets me the most is that these actors did not give themselves over to absolute pleasure. They gave themselves over to a routine of tight acting, dancing and singing performances that were so finely choreographed they seemed to miss the finesse of Rocky Horror's slapped-together, creased art. Take for instance the usherette - though I respect they included her, some unnecessary artful bulls**t tacked on to Science Fiction Double Feature killed whatever good was there. Perhaps two things make this film the worst for me: Firstly, the complete un-sexiness of it all. I'm not talking about the clearly gorgeous actors here - I mean the disgustingly raw and open sexuality that was missing. This movie was like the processed cheese of .passion The other thing is the transylvanians and audience - as though they were plucked from a synchronised swimming team. All beautiful. All thin. All dressed in - in what? Haute couture? None of this feels like the low-budget camp gorgeousness of the original. There is nothing I find from myself in these anomalies - this hive mind crowd of perfect people. I know it will be all too common to slaughter this film in memory of the original. There were at least a few things I came to like - some homages to the original, the concept of the audience's inclusion, Cox's costume. But really, why do it? To milk the franchise?

Not the best.

Look. I can see where bits of it are coming from. I can taste the Brad Neely in it. It just pales in comparison to China, Il. Part of me knows that I shouldn't be judging the show based on its predecessor, but even comparing this to other sketch shows (notably Robot Chicken), it just doesn't work right. Brad Neely's got real talent, you can feel that in how quickly he characterises and the novelty of his songs. I think this show isn't his jam. Part of the problem is perhaps that the sketches are so fleeting - there's no joke to draw back on - nothing self-referential. If I may say one thing, though - I took the advice of another review and pushed ahead with the show. The later episodes compared to the start are a vast improvement - I didn't feel like I was forcing myself to watch it, so to speak. Maybe it has some hope, if it's tailored to fit. I'm not sure. Perhaps a better solution would be to revive China, Il.

Heartwarming, fills the hole

Likely too many ass-wiping jokes. Filled with every kind of cliché you can find in this type of movie - a horde of broken souls finding themselves with the friendship and love of each other, etc. Yet there way a kind of goodness in it - no troughs too deep to make one wallow in despair or pause the movie, no highs too high to break realism. Some feisty, unexpected bits even gave it the illusion of being a new experience. I suppose all in all it felt worthwhile, enough of something to feel like you've watched a movie and not wasted precious breath. All in all, it was comfortably knowable and not terrible, having no clear moments of frustration or innovation.
