Next Baking Master: Paris (2024)
SPOILER ALERT!!! Interesting Show
SPOILER ALERT!!!
Overall, we really like this show. It's very similar in concept to the other baking shows, however, it appears that this one isn't based on a popularity contest. Paige who started out as one of the judges favorites, was sent home fairly quickly which was refreshing. On most of these competitions you can kind of tell who the judges like and then ironically they end up winning the whole contest (surprise, surprise). One of the things we don't like Is the cattiness that some of the contestants show. Paige and Keely were the typical mean girls we all knew in high school, now that Paige has been eliminated, Keely isn't quite as mean, Jeremy is a toxic insecure person, who lashes out against many of the other contestants, especially Jennalyn, while Jennalyn, Lyndsay, Deandra, Joe & Cedric all seem to be nice (so far, hopefully that won't change). Robert started out nice and then became jealous that Jennalyn's miso caramel was better than his & said some really nasty things about Jennalyn in the car, but by the next week he was back to being kind to her. I think these shows feel that the audience wants discord between the contestants because it's dramatic, but I actually don't believe that's true. We much prefer when they are nice and helpful to each other. We also wish that the contestants would stop trying to speak French, they're not good at it, it sounds phony like they're sucking up to the French judge, who is pretty rude most of the time. We like Stephanie as we've been watching her for years on the channel and find most of her critiques are spot on. Hope this show stands the test of time because overall it is enjoyable.
Legends of the Fork (2023)
Interesting Concept
We like the concept of the show, it's interesting to hear the history of some of the oldest and most famous restaurants from around the country. It's also nice to be able to visit some of the places that Buddy goes to, close to where we live in California, in fact, we've already been to Damon's Steakhouse in Glendale and it was great. Our biggest complaint is when Buddy tastes the food at each restaurant, he smacks and slurps to the extent that you feel naseous just listening to him. Also the constant, bada bing, bada bang, yeah we get it Buddy you're from Jersey. It's such a cliche. Overall the show is enjoyable and interesting, just needs some tweaks here and there.
Outrageous Pumpkins (2019)
Good show but....
We really like this show and have watched it since the beginning. This year we are baffled as to what the judges are looking at. Chaminda and Daniel are always churning out excellent carvings and yet the judges have picked Michele and Rebecca as the winner on occasions where their pieces were not only incomplete but VERY amateurish. What are they looking at? It's almost as if they want a woman to win so badly that they'll overlook all of the mistakes and terrible finished products. To us it appears that there are 2 clear lead carvers, Chaminda and Daniel, although Ethan did a great job on the Batman challenge. As for the host, Damaris needs to go, she has been giving her opinion way too much, much more than Sunny or Alyson ever did. We also find her to be very annoying. Still love the show but please be fair when judging instead of turning a blind eye so that a female can finally win one. If that was their ultimate goal then it should have happened last season with the female contestant that was an excellent carver, can't remember her name but she had short reddish blonde hair, and was very good at her craft.
Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars (2023)
Caroline Needs To Go
Overall I like the concept of this show, however, Caroline is so annoying and aggravating, she is so egotistical and thinks she's an expert on everything, when in reality she can't do anything right, especially public speak. She always insists on being the forefront of every single challenge. She can't get along with anybody, especially the other women, with the exception of Sydney (although that is fake but Sydney hasn't figured it out yet). I'm not sure why she's still on the show, when almost every epic fail has been caused or created by her, and yet she's always the victim. Perhaps, Gordon sees something in her that, I and many others, don't, that's the ONLY reason I can see for her still being on this show. Every week I feel sorry for the other contestants that get partnered with her, as it inevitably ends with one of their demises, instead of Caroline's demise. This show would be so much better without her Junior High drama.
Supermarket Stakeout (2019)
Alex is Annoying
We used to love this show, it had a unique concept where the contestants really had to be creative and improvise with whatever groceries they bought. Now it's seems so staged, the challenges are lame i.e. Shredded, pickled, chopped etc., and the shoppers are so greedy now wanting $300 for 2 small bags of groceries. We live in Southern California and yes its expensive but this is just pure greed and makes some people think that all Californian's are like this. The judges seem to have already picked who they want to win before anybody cooks anything, so it's more of a popularity contest than it is a cooking contest. Many of the true winners are actually eliminated in the 1st or 2nd rounds because they weren't the "chosen ones". But what we hate the most is how Alex goes to help some contestants. It's like she has to show off her so called expertise in cooking, we've watched her on several programs and never seen her cook an actual meal, and yet she has to give her opinion on what the contestants make. But she doesn't help them equally she picks her favorites to help and more often than not that contestant wins, shock, shock!! Alex has become quite rude over the seasons, she makes snide comments to the contestants and the judges, as well as making fun of the people passing by to see what's going on. You would think she would welcome people interested in what they're doing as it brings in more viewers. Plus she looks so disheveled with her fried hair, hideous and unflattering clothing, and garish makeup, with all the money she makes from her many, many shows, you would think she'd hire a stylist and a hair and makeup artist. Last night's (July 11th 2023) blatant favoritism was the final straw for my husband, who is no longer watching because it's so unfair a lot of the time.
