Jungfrukällan (1960)
It is good for its time but not a masterpiece at all.
The only child of the chieftain (Karin) is sent to deliver candles with the pregnant servant (Ingeri) who is jealous of the girl since she is still untouched, young, brave, and naive. When they are on their way, she is attacked by the shepherds and only Ingeri makes it home again in remorse.
Before the rape happens we can see Ingeri almost wants her to feel the same way as she does and, to be hurt. I think this is the most attractive part of the story. The envy and the regret of the servant. The fact that she hates her and herself since she could not do anything about it.
I think the cinematography is great and the actors did an amazing job. The atmosphere adds a simple depth to the movie. We can really tell after the crime scene spring is over and suddenly winter begins. As snow drops on the dead girl. And after the vengeance of the father, it is suddenly spring again.
At some point, I was thinking maybe the movie tried to criticize the false reality of some religious people that belives "God would not allow such horror" but I do not think that is the case. Since at the end we see a spring that comes out from the ground as if she left it on the earth. This made me think that the movie tries to show us something miraculous about religion. However, maybe the director wanted to do both.
And finally why I gave 6/10. When I am watching, listening to a story, I do not like being fooled. I do not like it when the author or the director goes with what comes to mind first. Here, in this case, it is the question that I ask when I saw the girl going to the woods with her pregnant servant alone "In what world or time a chieftain, a father sends his only girl to the woods like this?" After seeing that I could not focus on the movie anymore. Again maybe this was the criticism. But still. I can not buy it. And also the fact that most of the movie was just a predictable set of events.
However, it is still better than most of the horror or drama in Hollywood.
La piel que habito (2011)
Unfortunately an overrated disaster
I felt responsible to write this review to warn anyone who is going to watch this movie.
I was really hoping to question skin transfers, gender issues, disconnection from self, nature of mankind... However I found none of these. The movie do not question anything about all of these or anything. I really wanted see something in the movie other than some random violance. I do not really care about the violance in the movie. This movie did not offer anything for me to question or think about. Such missed opportunity.
There are times that is going to make you say "Oh! Awesome the movies is about this and that" but then it fails. With the name of this movie you can make lots of movies and every one of them can mean something.
It did not scare me. I was not thrilled or anything. It was not dark. It was just a hollow movie about a surgeon who is obsessive about his wife and a guy who can keep his identity with yoga.
Togo (2019)
The story could have been told in a much better way than this. Make your 10 year old children watch it.
I am not even giving 4/10 to make the ranking of the movie lower. I think it deserves 4, and I think people are giving 10/10 because it is based on a true story, and it is a dog movie.
The worst part is there was no emotion in the movie. They figured out everything quickly. There was always a quick solution. I never felt like they could not have done it. I never felt the failure so they can come back with determination, passion and ambition. Everything was too quick yet the movies is really boring.
He did not accept the dog at first since he was a bit too playful and moving. However, one day he accepts him suddenly.
The script is too poor. I just watched the movie yet I dont even remember any quotes from the movie besides Dafoe saying "Good dogs!"
The story could have been told from a different perspective, so it is not always "Togo, Togo"
The scenerio could have been much more emphatic, powerful, and uncertain. Therefore it is more gripping and shocking.
I am a bit dissappointed in the imdb ranking. So I felt like I had to write a review. There are much more impressive movies than this to make your children to see.
