What happened to nuance in reviews?
4 March 2024
Why do reviews always have to be 9's, 10's or 1's? People seem to think reviewing is a simple, yes / no vote and have forgotten that a mediocre episode or film deserves a mediocre score. Your individual review won't change the average score and fanbases will usually rally in higher numbers.

I enjoyed this episode a little and found it to be a welcome relief after the darkness and anger of the last episode, but I dont intend watching it a second time next time I binge the show. Everyone will know this is a musical but there are a few plot points that are worth knowing as the series move forward.

Summary - It's not a 10 like the Lower Decks crossover, but it is mediocre in an average way.

Secret Invasion: Home (2023)

There better not be another season after this
4 February 2024
I'm not a rabid comic book fan gatekeeping against some nebulous ideal of canon. I've enjoyed the Disney generation of Marvel, not as much as the original movies, but I've still enjoyed it all. Loki, She Hulk and WandaVision are right up there with Iron Man in my books.

This last episode somehow dragged on longer than any of the other episodes and the final "boss" fight was some of the stupidest television I've watched I've ever seen and then at the end of this cringeworthy fight, the writers and director managed to make the last five minutes drag on interminably. I stuck with the whole show in case anything happened and it didn't, in the age of tiktok where kids can't focus on stuff for more than a few seconds, Disney managed to make a show that bored a middle aged man.

Bravo on making pure dross.

More money doesn't mean more better
24 January 2023
Like other reviewers, I enjoyed Series One and Two quite a bit and I thought it out Star Trekked Star Trek Discovery, in fact I still do, but in Series Three I feel some things changed for the worse. With an injection of capital they seem to have spent it all on VFX and forgotten to check the script for charm.

I also have a bit of a problem with McFarlane giving pivotal roles to actors he's having a relationship with, writing new characters into and out of a small core cast removes too much continuity, as each one needs a backstory explaining why they're given such a prominent role.

Finally, each episode is 20 minutes longer and the less ruthless editing means they seem to spend too much time wallowing in ideas which would be more believable if they were mentioned in passing. We're asked to make a few leaps and suspend disbelief to accept a futuristic sci-fi adventure and these leaps of faith are easier to take if we aren't given an unnecessary amount of detail, filling in the blanks ourselves provides enough detail to accept things.

I'd give Season Four a fair chance if they make it, but I'm not going to watch too many episodes if it's stays on this Star Trek Discovery downward trajectory.

I laughed so much
20 August 2022
This has started in a way I really enjoyed, the actors were all great and the writing and direction was snappy. I've never read any of the comics and have just enjoyed Marvel movies as they're written, I hope we get a few funnier shows like this interspersed amongst the heavier hitters. Vale RDJ's Tony Stark.

Silly fun spectacle like Jurassic movies should be
27 July 2022
I enjoyed the callbacks and the new stuff, I'd give a ten just for the chase scene that involved a Kei class van and dinosaurs, laughed a bit in that part and can I forgive any plot holes and supposition. Easy to watch and I'm glad I did.

Childhood memories probably best left in the past
24 June 2022
I was pleased to hear about it being made, these two nerds were a big part of my zeitgeist when I was learning how the world works. It's filled with a refreshing charm and I enjoyed it for a while but then halfway through I started getting bored with the same elements repeating. I'm glad I watched it but I won't revisit as I've moved a long way on from my cloudy teens. I won't leave a political comment as too many commenters here seem to think you have to review something from a fixed idealogical position and I worry this mad US tribalism will further degrade film making and the country until there's nothing left there but a landscape from the excellent movie Idiocracy.

After a rough start it's generally enjoyable. But...

Whichever members of the committee that writes and directs told Sonequa Martin-Green to whisper for dramatic effect needs to be fired. Having to raise and lower the volume constantly is irritating as heck and destroys the continuity for me.

Made for tv Matrix is still Matrix
23 December 2021
Whilst this lacks many things, it's still better written than the third movie and just lacked the budget. I hope the studio green lights a sequel and gives them the special effects team this movie needed. It mostly lacked cinema style cinematography and the soundscape was teensy.

But I still want to see the story continue.

I didn't like it

Ridley Scott for me is hit or miss, this isn't as awful as Prometheus but it is close. Also it took me way to long to recognise the Batfleck, good casting and makeup.

The books tell a good story, there's zero reason for this to be a Game of Thrones clone. Whoever signed off on this needs to take a good long look at themselves.

Hooray for the Void!
18 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A conspiracy loving Void presents an excellent opening monologue about the bs of Bugs Bunny learning a lesson and then confirms the truth about jet fuel. Also John puts up a pretty good argument about the US's need for a stronger participation in Unions. I'm Australian and didn't have much time for them, but after watching this I'm glad for all the excellent work they did, as well as their presence now which continues to keep businesses honest.

One episode out of three ain't bad, it's awful
3 October 2021
Cool idea, bastardising an excellent series of novels just to steal the name of them to lend an awful series an iota of respectability. The first episode was a good adaptation which finished strongly, the second episode was rubbish and this has nothing to do with the original idea at all. I know Asimov's original few novels were a bit old fashioned but why ruin the name with this garbage. Gaaah! I'm so cranky.

A ten again
29 August 2021
I've rated every episode a ten this episode on this final and maudlin season a ten so I guess this one gets a ten and a half. The last couple of lines made me genuine lol and made a sad ending hilarious, bless the writers for delivering another happy / sad episode.

Why do execs approve movies assuming it'll get a sequel?
20 August 2021
I wanted to like this, Ninjas, Joe's and bad guys. Not much to dislike there right? Except the lead was an unlikable character with a terribly written script, Tommy was better, but each scene flipped between a buddy movie vibe to the tortured soul and sadly his accent slipped more often than that. The supporting cast also went back and forth, this is like the film had two directors, neither of whom knew the other one was also working on this film, and they each had a different brief.

Sham contracting to avoid medical costs? To heck with you McMahon
21 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode never fails to raise a sad tear or two. I loved wrestling back in the 80's and 90's and seeing how many of those champions passed away young for various avoidable reasons makes me sad and angry. Sham contracting is what we call it here in Australia, when employees you don't want to pay any sick leave, annual leave or retirement (superannuation) benefits to. It's illegal because of the terrible things employers were getting away with it, yet in the US Vince McMahon is a billionaire because of it. I hope the lawyers figure out one day how to hold him accountable for wrestlers welfare and they can at least get enough of an off season to recover with full medical bills covered.

Highly recommended.

It was a great way to bring it back
10 November 2020
I can write whatever I want and no one will read, they'll just downvote because they gave it one star. It's a good action movie with heaps of robots, explosions and guns. Miller did a great job directing it too. T2 is my favourite, I saw it at the cinema when it first came out, this is my second favourite in the franchise

Kyle Chandler sucked
16 October 2020
The monster stuff was fun, the people stuff could've been but they had a B grade actor in Kyle as the lead and gave him too broad of a role to cover. And why the hell did he keep whispering? Baffling casting

I hope every episode doesn't keep following the same formula, self obsessed Stirling isn't working and is really annoying. It'd be great to see the team winning using their plans without this disruptive bs

An excellent episode
2 September 2020
The story tackles sexual harassment in a great way and Scully has some of his funniest lines of the past 6 years. People are whinging that's the show has gone woke and are blaming Stephanie, have they missed that this show has been tackling homophobia since the very first episode? You gotta wonder at any men scared of day to day harassment. What are the one star reviewers hiding?

Hooray for the reboot
30 January 2018
Ignore the naysayers review, this is great, I'm 44 years old and loved the original so take that with a dose of salt. This reboot is classic and fun, binged the first 3 episodes and hanging out for the rest of the season

Thanks to Films NSW and Netflix for making this
