The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
What a piece of utter crap!
As almost every review i have seen here as seen and felt after watching this anomaly of film work.
100%hype.
0% content , story , acting , purpose
Young Mr Gandolfini should look for a job as you can see that he has no acting skills but he is not alone nobody in this film showed that he knows anything more than dressing up like a cheap Italian gangster of the 1960's
All this without getting into the riots of 68 story which was another soft boiled egg of a plot,
do not waste your time if you have allready.
Overlord (1975)
what a bore!
Read some of the reviews as was so hyped up that i was going to see a lost hidden gem of a war movie ( which is my favorite genre )
What i go is a mix of mostly newsreel footage and the most simplistic story about the most uninspiring character possible.
Yes it does at the end convey the futility and tragedy of war , but then war is futile and tragic so as in this case it does not take much to convey it
stay away unless you are looking for a sleeping pill.
Death Wish (2018)
What a bad bad movie!
Bruce Willis over the year has made his fair share of movies of this genre. The wife and daughter abducted by bad guys is one of the motifs . Maybe they were all as bad as this one and this is just one to much.
The story line is to be expected , but the graphic violence and the pure sadistic nature of the acts of revenge as is exaggerated to a point of silent disgust .This is without getting at the acting which is all third rate to say the least.
all in all stay far away from this piece of s___t
Yesterday's Enemy (1959)
A very very good movie
War for all those that do not glorify it is true hell.
This movie is a document to the above statement;
it feels like you are watching a play in a jungle
the acting is superb
the story tackles moral questions that nowadays dont seem to concern anybodyth
about the hypocrisy and the utter futility of war,
the fact that the action scenes are very old fashioned makes no difference to the superior quality of this production
a must see for all those that want a first hand view into this hypocrisy and futility
12 Strong (2018)
Pure Garbage
Patriotic slop of the highest degree, second rate acting , yes there are great scenes of destruction but really not much more all the rest is like a third rate nothing,
The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)
Recycled and amusing Junk
When watching this movie you feel like you have seen it many times before. Yes there are a few amusing moments, yes there are a some great exaggerated action scenes and yes there is a bit of humour, The only good thing is Samuel Jackson that plays the part to the hilt. All in all a utter waste of time.
Risen (2016)
What a Disappointment
Even with the flux of bad movies all around us Risen is unique in how bad it is, no plot, no action, no rhythm, and even if Tom Felton and Joseph Finnes are good actors the movie managed to pale their performances. It seems to be a Christian movie. I would stay away from it,far away
The Last Rescue (2015)
bad bad bad
1-I love war movies (this is why i chose to see this one)
2-This is not a war movie!
3-This is a 4th grade lousy melodrama set in a scene which does look like France after D Day
4-The Germans are all mean and sadist and as such this is the best acting in the whole movie.
5-The Americans are all flat no personality no continuity of the characters.
6-whomever was concerned that the tanks are not authentic enough is probably right it is just that the tanks are a minor minor part of the story.
6-A complete flop
Hyena Road (2015)
Excellent
Being a true pacifist who believes that war should be a thing of the past I have a morbid fascination of war movies.
A good war movie is one that makes you see and understand the utter folly of war. Hyena Road is a perfect example of a good war movie.
The futility of war and in this case of the crazy undefined one that has been raging in Afghanistan for decades.
The story line is solid, the characters are real people. Rossif Sutherland as Ryan Sanders the patriot who believes that in war there are good and bad people. Paul Gross as Pete Mitchell the cynical intelligence officer that believes that he knows what needs to be done, and who has dissected war as a conflict of interests by many parties.
The friction of the impossible situation the characters are in is well presented by all the cast.
The slight romantic sub story is just another facet of the stupid mad situation all the characters are in.
The photography is vivid and true and the movie moves at just the right pace between the basic humanity of all the characters and the very well made realistic scenes of combat.
All in all an excellent film that stands true against most of the American war movies of recent years that are only propaganda. Here the point that war is senseless and only inflicts harm directly on the people or indirectly on the society of all involved.
Undoubtetly a pearl of Canadian Film.
