The Fabelmans (2022)
I don't know why I stayed till the end
As previous reviews have mentioned it is Spielbergs love letter to cinema, however it's poorly executed. Particularly the second half of the movie which I saw no point in, it was a different movie, a type of cheesy movie, something I have seen time and time again
The only interesting character was his mother, it is evident she was an influential figure in his life. It could be my brain expecting instant satisfaction but it felt like reading a Tolstoj novel. This movie just lasted forever and I am sorry I spent money to watch it in cinema. I have no idea how this got 7.7. It's definitely a box of chocolates for the critics, but not for me.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Amazing visuals!
I went to see the movie in 4Dx 3D, best decision ever! I was not bored for a single second of this movie, it's a very entertaining watch. The storyline seems even rushed for a two and a half run, acting is a little off from the side characters, Benedict Cumberbatch carried the movie perfectly, dr. Strange is more human than in any other appearance, plenty of surprises and laughs , anticipation and horror. All in all, a mood lift and worth a watch, and that is coming from someone who isn't that big of a Marvel fan. Well done!
Emily in Paris (2020)
Second season was bad
I enjoyed first season very much, I moved to Rome without any prior knowledge of the language and have appreciated people who spoke English so much, I am forever grateful. I believe that people who have never lived in a foreign country will take this show as cliché, not that it doesn't have some of those. It is an escape from reality. However, the second season was very underwhelming, should have been a limited series, really disappointed. It's a six for me.
The Dig (2021)
I loved it
Superb acting, great story and wonderful landscapes of rural England. I loved every part of character development! A refreshing lack of gore and nudity just adds to the overall impression that this movie has left on me. I highly recommend it if you are into historical dramas. However, the movie is a slow burn so if you are not into that skip but I wasn't bored even for a second.
Fate: The Winx Saga (2021)
Take it as its own show
I am a European and grew up watching the first four seasons of winx club. Never even heard of the nickelodeon seasons till a year ago (what the hell did they do to the show?! ). I went in thinking this is gonna be a disaster, and in a fashion sense it most certainly is. The outfits are terrible, at least they could have kept that from the original. After watching the whole season, I didn't hate it, there are way worse shows on netflix than the fate. I must mention that it reminded me so much of ELITE, a spanish teenage show. I will surely be watching the second season as the overarching story is great. The character development seemed very fast and the whole thing gave me a super uncomfortable feeling of being done for the sake of being done.
It's nothing like the original and respects no ones opinion. Definitely better than what nickelodeon has done to the cartoon. Doesn't deserve the hate it gets, except the outfits.
Down to Earth with Zac Efron (2020)
A lot of haters in the review section
As a biologist/ecologist myself, I found this show very inspirational and adjusted to the less aware people. I found it very eye opening even tho I work with many agencies in my country and in broader sense of Europe that deal with smart cities and sustainability. This is a show for people who do not have a direct contact with these kinds of problems and should be looked at in such a way. Sure, I was pretty much annoyed with the water tasting segment in one of the episodes, but that is only because my country is privileged to have "fancy", mineralised water running on tap all around cities. We have to be understanding that for Zac it was the first time he has tasted water containing natural CO2 (bubbles) amongst other beneficial compounds, while I drink it daily for free. We have to understand that cities in the US primarily belong to cars, while in most of Europe I get fine on my bike for longer distances. "Down to Earth" is there to present a different perspective and show that we are not alone in the world and what I find normal, some poeple don't and need to be educated. I gave it an 8 because one of the episodes was pretty much boring while the rest was amazing. My favorite must be "Sardinia" closely folowed by "France" because the topics adressed hit close to home. Even tho I knew most of the information given in them, I loved how they presented it to the wider audience. The hosts have some pretty good jokes and it is very entertaining to witness all of the small things they are impressed by, makes you think about all the things you take for granted. Higly recommended!
Anne (2017)
YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS!
Anne with an E is a show that touches upon many things concerning society as well as my heart. I loved every second of it. Watching this show felt like eating a box of chocolates. If I could rate it more than 10 I would. It is great tragedy that it has not been renewed but the last episode does offer some closure so the fact that it has been canceled should not stop you from watching it. Acting and scenery is glorious. We can only hope that it will be renewed for more seasons but until it is I will surely be rewatching it!
Bones (2005)
You might as well call it quits after season 6
I grew up with this show and can safely say that I became an entomologist because of Hogins but after season 6 it just wasn't the same. It felt dragged and repetitive. But don't get me wrong the first 4 seasons are some of the best hours of television ever. The characters were brilliantly written and would captivate even the hardest to please viewer. It had a good run but it should have ended sooner.
Sherlock (2010)
Masterpiece!
The wit of the writters, the brilliant cast and the sound mixing makes this Sherlock the best in my opinion. Season 4 has revolutionised the camera work. Those scenes, influenced by sherlock's drug addiction and his mind racing beyond words brought us scenes that viewers are unable to comprehend. I also thought that as seasons went by Benedict and Martins acting has immensely improved in a sense that they became more comfortable in their roles, willing to experiment and investing a bit more in their characters. I enjoyed watching the characters grow along with the show. Season 4 has also recieved some negative reviews but in my opinion that is just something that happens when a show becomes too popular. I believe that the season 8 of GOT will have the same response. Season 4 explored Sherlock's childhood and what made him the way he is now, a high functioning sociopath. Even though we might not live to see the season 5, what we have here is a brilliant piece of television. Had my parents hooked, had my friends hooked and still continues to amaze me. Simply could not give this show only 10/10 rating, I had to write a review. And, of course, if you go down the rabbit hole of fan fiction, crack videos on youtube and Benedict Cumberbatch, you are sure to have a marvellous ride with this show!
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
Full of questions
To be honest, after watching the Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them for the first time I left cinema not thinking much of it. Because of Eddie Redmaynes performance I went in for the second time. I loved it, everything fell into place. I spent 2 years patiently waiting for "The Crimes of Gridelwald" and literally spent the last 20 min of the movie with my jaw on the floor. The movie is everything I had hoped for. Although, throughout the movie I found myself wanting to pause and rewind, afterwards I found myself plotting all the outcomes that could happen in the next movie and that is everything that the wizarding world franchise is about. In my opinion this is a movie to be watched twice, this a thrilling ride through the wizarding world, this is a definition of a "bridge movie", the 3D effects are amazing. Take it as it is and find yourself plotting the next big thing that J.K. Rowling has in store for us. All that said I would very much loved if Newt and Tina got more screen time but everything else compensated for it.
