Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)
A very good action-adventure movie
I wasn't expecting this film to be so good, and I'm quite surprised to see it so lowly rated here at IMDb.
It's action packed, well scripted, with excellent production values (music, costumes, CGI, the lot), and very well acted and directed. Gyllenhaal and Arterton are both great in the lead roles, and Kinsgley, Molina and the others also do an outstanding job.
All in all, a beautiful adventure movie that shouldn't disappoint anyone. It blows the overrated Pirates of the Caribbean series out of the water, in my humble opinion. If you like adventure, watch this movie and you'll have a great time, guaranteed!
In Bruges (2008)
Mostly rubbish
I can't believe this film is currently rated so high over here. It looks good for the first couple of minutes, but soon you realize it's going to be rubbish, mainly because of one of the poorest scripts I can remember in recent times.
The dialogues are so badly written as to become really worried about McDonagh's future in the business if he insists on shooting his own material. He's technically quite correct as a director, although there are some worrying choices in that department too, like the rather too long sightseeing sequences of Bruges that sometimes feel like you're watching a travel documentary instead of a movie.
And the dialogues, oh boy. They are trying so hard to be funny, smart and witty, a la Tarantino, but they fail miserably. Some of the stuff, like the "midget" discussing whose side he'd be on if a war between dwarfs was to start (sorry, I can't remember the silly, unfunny details) are downright embarrassing, and so are other bits during the whole movie. The story-telling is not exactly brilliant either.
Brendan Gleeson is quite good, Farrell is annoying as hell, and Fiennes overdoes it a bit too much.
Not worth your time or your money. Avoid!
La question humaine (2007)
Dull, pretentious, boring, pointless
This ship wreck of a movie has got to be one of the most boring, irritating and absurd films I've ever watched. It ranks up there with only a couple others that I almost walked out on many, many years ago.
No plot, no character development, irritating music and camera angles, bombastic dialogs, idiotic sequences and pointless scenes that drag on and on and on....
I'm a grown man with a keen appreciation for art in all its forms, and do not consider myself averse to artistic, profound, philosophical movies, quite the opposite. But this is none of that. As I painfully watched, boredom turned into outright anger at the thought of wasting two hours of my life with this rubbish. And believe me, I've been known to waste some time on silly past times! This is just too much. I'm almost embarrassed, no, worse, incensed that I sat through it.
Do yourselves a favor and avoid this load of you-know-what at all cost.
