My Little Pony Tales (1992)
I quite liked it.
The characters can be forgettable (this applies to most of Generation 1, however). The story is a tad lacking, although more focused than some of the later attempts (I'm looking at you, The End Of Flutter Valley.) The songs are okay, though some are forgettable. The writing is.. okay. It certainly has it's moments, such as Megan's little turn of spirit from hopeless to hopeful in "Dancing on Air". All in all I'd say it's one of the better entries in the original 'N Friends era.
Do I have criticisms, though? Oh yes. The transfer from happiness to dark and cloudy near the start was rather jarring, the stratodons are never really explained very well, Tirek's appearance is... pretty bad, he was much better when he was covered in shadow, much more menacing. Spike can be a tad annoying at times (though I still like him), Scorpan being a transformed prince sort of comes out of nowhere at the end... but, for what it is, it's more solid than a lot of the other entries in the series.
My Little Pony: The Movie (1986)
Good, but certainly flawed.
Ah, My Little Pony: The Movie. As an admitted fan of Generation 1 of MLP (Both 'N Friends and Tales), I have to say... this film is somewhat lacking. There are a lot of moments where it just felt like nothing was happening and it became boring. The animation is typical 80s cartoon fare, the story is... not actually that bad, but the writing is all over the place. At times it feels quite solid, like with the witch sisters Reeka and Draggle learning to work together, but there were quite a few times where it was more than a bit lacking, and often, as I said, boring.
Now, the songs... some of the songs are absolutely horrible (I'll Go It Alone for example) whilst some are mediocre (There's Always Another Rainbow) and yet others are rather wonderful (What Good Will Wishing Do?). I can't understand why they gave such a talented singer as Alice Playten a song like I'll Go It Alone, for example. The direction in songwriting baffles me, as it is, again, all over the place.
There really isn't much to My Little Pony: The Movie, but I still quite enjoy this film. It's certainly far from the worst of the first generation cartoons, movies and specials. I can understand why a lot of people might not like this, other than the usual, generic lack of appeal of cartoon horses to most crowds, but it holds a special place in my heart regardless.
Also Wind Whistler is best pony.
La leggenda del Titanic (1999)
What is wrong with humanity?
At the time of writing, this is rated higher than The Legend Goes On, and I fail to understand why. The Legend Goes On was offensive and stupid, but this is even more so! It hijacks the titanic story to turn it into an environmental movie, and does so incredibly poorly. The animation, voice acting and audio editing is sub par at best, and worst of all, it says that nobody died on the Titanic!
Not to mention the padding, the terrible writing, and the downright creepy moments, like the main male lead sniffing the main female lead's glove deeply near the start after letting his dog steal it, or one of the main mouse characters fawning over a human female. What is wrong with the writers and director of this animated monstrosity, this... slight against good taste disguised as a film for little children?
Manos: The Hands of Fate (1966)
Terrible
One hell of a bad movie. Boring, for the most part, although Torgo was somewhat amusing. The movie contains all sorts of stupid stuff like Torgo's turn in the middle that came out of pretty much nowhere, although I have to admit I did like the IDEA behind the ending - with Torgo being replaced by the male protagonist.
Oh, and all the characters other than Torgo and the Master (to some extent) are incredibly forgettable. The story is forgettable, the soundtrack is... actually, decent enough (I do like the master's little musical cue, though I find Torgo's is a bit too lighthearted for this kind of movie.)
Certainly a legendarily bad film, worth watching for a taste of how low you can go - whilst not the worst of the worst, definitely a worthy contender.
