Breakout Kings (2011–2012)
8/10
To catch the Worst...send the Best.
21 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
A former criminal Kingpin, a genius gambler with issues and a hot headed bounty hunter who has killed multiple people in cold blood.

Team up with a former Marine with a heart condition stuck behind a desk, a hard nosed cop who may or may not be on the take. And a highly skilled logistics and information agent who is seems to suffer from panic attacks.

Tasked by the government to bring in the worst of the worst after they hit ground. Given 48 hours to bring them in to limit collateral damage and lessen the risk of letting these criminals get lost in the wind.

This show is a strange mix, however it seems to be finding its balance. the characters have potential however the main plot of criminal recovery may or may not be a hit or miss.

In the meantime if they can get cast chemistry right and keep engaging the viewer it may move beyond its limited premise.

Good fun, could be more.

Hancock (2008)
10/10
Falling down, getting up and old loves and heroes.
2 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS - YOU ARE WARNED Hancock is an interesting mix, we start off simple enough. Hancock ( Smith) is your everday Superman who drinks, flies and does massive property damage. He doesn't seem to care and the public don't care much for him either.

Enter Ray Embrey an idealist who sees more in Hancock and decides to help Hancock earn the public Trust, also enters Rays wife Mary...

Hancock has a lot of ohhhh and awwww moments. But it also has a lot of going for it besides. Another moment is the Bank Scence when Hancock shows up and tries to connect with the officers and keeps handing out 'Good Job' you see that he is being sincere and he is trying to reach out.

Afterwards their gratitude you actually feel their acceptance.

Another is the interesting reveal of both he and Mary's origin. Ancient lovers bound and divided by what they are. As a side note the shenigans in Rays kitchen when both Ray and Mary comically argue about the reveal is hilarious.

However this shifts to the ' old married couple' phase where Mary goes off on him, you actually could see these two as a husband and wife. Renforced later in the Hospital where Mary explains Hancocks scars.

To sum it up its more then you think, unexpected pleasure with a resolution where a goddes gets her normal life and a God gets to be the hero he has to be.

Humour, action, great actor chemistry and a touch of Pathos.

Highly Recommended.

Afro Samurai (2007)
8/10
Hip, cool, tragic and quite bloody.
5 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I was a bit hesitant to watch this because well it did sound a touch odd in the end I was more then pleasantly surprised.

Afro - Samurai is a tale of revenge, responsibility and choices made.

The titular hero ( oddly enough called Afro ) is a stoic one man army killing machine who is on his way to hunt down Justice. A Texan Samurai packing heat and a nasty surprise.

In this hip mix and match world of blazing Katana combat mixed with cell phones and six shooters Afro is hunting the man who took his fathers head and with it his power..in this a number one head band that gives its wearer the rank of best of the best and the power of a God.

In his quest for vengeance Afro will chose his vengeance over the only other family he has known, find and lose old loves and put himself in an all out brawl with a duel Sword wielding cyborg with a Teddy bears head.

All in the company in his very loud, truth speaking and obnoxious yet more then he seems pal Ninja Ninja.

Well worth a look

Reminds you what good Cinema is...
16 January 2007
I was more then just pleasantly surprised, I was stunned.

This movie is a must because the story is sometimes beautiful, sometimes harsh and mostly touching. Its about Identity, a sons obligation and love. Its about survival and guilt.

There are many things that just grabbed me about this film. How somethings where never what they seemed. Like how his strict adoptive father who seemed a bit distant and disappointed in him fought hard for Shlomo no matter what. Or strangely humorous when Shlomo goes to confess to the police his crime but they believe that he is being brainwashed by propaganda.

Sara his soul-mate he almost loses not by the truth but by the lie in covering up the truth, the Doctor who lied to get him to Isreal or the wise Old man who writes letters for Shlomo to his mother are a few of the interesting characters that add to the masterpiece.

Thru trails and tribulations he finally finds himself. Back where he started, back to his mother in a finishing scene that brought a tear to my eye.

A must have.

A little Gem- Bought to own
20 September 2006
In a normal romantic comedy Theodore would be dashing and suave trying to win the love of his soulmate from her less deserving suitor.

Unfortunately he seems to find a lot of ' soulmates' in his travels.

Recently there's Frances ( Parker) who has more issues then Time magazine. Not to mention the sophisticated Mona ( Holt ) who is world wise and is pretty sure that Theodore is the one for her. Pity her boyfriend and Theodores best friend doesn't agree.

Finally we come to Samantha ( Holloman) off centre but filled with hope that is the perfect match for him. Unfortunately for them both there's her self centered jerk of a husband Gabe ( played with smooth smugness by Moscow) that could end that match stone cold dead.

I like Theodore because he isn't going around causing havoc just to add names to a book, he isn't being the typical stud that finds love. There is something lovable about him that wins both these women and the audience over.

Its different, its not about being a player but being a man looking for true love.

How can you not like that.

Step back and enjoy
30 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not surprised that most people didn't like this film.

Originally I was half and half and now considering buying the thing.

Heck I will buy it.

Mainly for the acting and moments. I mean Ashley Scott as a conniving and manipulative bitch. Her partner in crime wannabe rapper with three pounds of solid muscle and a fear of tiny diminutives mutts called Killer. Mikhal Phiffer as a well spoken and not too smart but pretty nice guy who runs a 'business.' I will admit the two leads where only so-so but everything else was OK.

Besides I loved how the white guy was so sure that 'Andy does not get raped in jail' and how the two other guys had to stress that it was a major plot point.

Oh, the main disturbing thing I found was the mayor daughter with a JC fixation. That was wrong on levels unknown.
