The China Hustle (2017)
Eye opening! Everybody should watch this.
An eye opening account of what is going on Globally circling the China growth story. How the American wealthy, and the President is trying to cover up one of the biggest hustles in the history of capitalism. This should be seen by everyone everywhere, even those who don't directly invest in capital markets.
Another Earth (2011)
Amazing portrayal of depression
This movie has probably the best depiction of depression I've ever seen captured on film. Brit Marling brings it out fabulously. I particularly loved the scene whee she sits on her mattress in the attic, and stares at the floor while the sun completes its daily cycle, evident through the shape of sunlight falling on the floor through the window. And the tiny dust particles just floating around, illuminated by the beams of light. Happened to me. Resonated with my psyche. Loved it.
Probably not a movie you'd want to share with everyone. Not everyone would get it. The guilt, the loneliness and the emptiness of the soul is captured brilliantly through the camera. When you suffer from depression, a million voices speak inside your head, and you try to pay attention to all of them, ignoring reality. It's painful, but it's beautifully esoteric too. The only problem with Brit Marling is, she is too damn pretty. Most depressed people aren't pretty. Depressed pretty people make the news, provide gossip fodder. Normal slobs like me vanish into obscurity, from social networks, yearbooks, family albums and from all conversations and references.
Overall, it was beautifully done. Hope they make more.
Hard Candy (2005)
Superb Cinematography.Plot is not too tight though..
I watched this movie on a rented DVD.I had no idea what this movie was about, and the cover showed the picture of a girl standing in a giant bear trap, and I thought, okay, this was a movie about some psychopath mass murderer of teenagers. But I must say, I was pleasantly surprised.
I won't go into the plot, as I would like the viewers to be as blown away by this as I was. However, one thing I must say that struck me, was the cinematography. It was excellent. I am into some photography, and the shots chosen for the film are as photographically perfect as it gets. Most of it is indoors, so light color and exposure played a major part. And it brings out an awesome effect. The last movie I saw which had such perfect shots was Mulholland Drive and maybe Elephant.
About the plot, it does shock you, but IMHO it is a bit far fetched. A 14 year old girl who says things like "Hayley" does when she first meets "Jeff" would instantly come across as too mature and is really not very authentic. I, found her precocious. But, the girl who plays "Hayley" is simply superb.
I would definitely recommend this movie, at least for the cinematography, if not the plot.
Legends of the Fall (1994)
Corny plot but enjoyable nonetheless
I've seen this movie for about three times.Every time I see it the plot kind of falls too flatly on its face. The entire situation is too corny and the storyline moves like that of a typical Bollywood movie.A Congressman shooting a rogue in order to reassert his family pride?!And all that when nobody knows where he came from in the shot. But there are good moments in the movie too.Sir Anthony Hopkins is again at his best a Colonel Ludlow, however the rest of the cast gives a so so performance. But the most moving thing about the movie is the score.James Horner delivers a magical atmosphere to the scenic beauty of the Dakotas and coupled with beautiful landscapes and quite good cinematography and thanks to Sir Anthony's performance, the movie doesn't look as bad as it could have.
