Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
JUST STOP WITH THE CRAP JOKES ALREADY!!!
Remember when Marvel movies used to be dramatic with just a few jokes that were actually funny. Can we please just go back to that?? There's just way too many jokes in every Marvel movie now and none of them land. I face palmed on at least 4 occasions during this.
That aside, this was a not very interesting and long winded way of bringing in the new baddie who doesn't seem all that tough because a group a bloody ants managed to take him out.
All together a fairly forgettable movie like pretty much everything in phase 4 so far. I haven't gone to the theatre to see a Marvel movie in some time and that looks set to continue unless there is a drastic change soon.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
MCU in a downward spiral
The MCU is just getting worse and worse. This latest installment is a wannabe drama come comedic mess. Waaaaaaaaay too many laboured attempts at humour that just fall flat. They devalue genuinely funny moments throughout the movie by constantly trying to make silly jokes every two seconds. There's a genuine heart felt drama sub plot throughout this movie that is completely ruined by these terrible half attempts at comedy. If you want to make a movie funny, just go ahead and do it. Don't try dip in and out of drama to comedy and back again. It just doesn't work.
With movies like this, Shang Chi, Black Widow and the slate of terrible mini-series, the MCU is more filler than anything else nowadays. They're in serious jeporady of ruining the greatest movie franchise in history. I was once a die hard MCU fan. I'm not even arsed when the next movie or whatever is out now.
Licorice Pizza (2021)
WTF?
A story about nobodies doing absolutely nothing... A truly awful movie... No idea what it's even supposed to be about. Can't understand all the good reviews. Abviously Hollywood movie snobs see something I don't...
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Pretty bad...
The movie was pretty good for like the first half. Few stupid bits here and there but after he comes back fro the future, it just went into full blown brain dead mode.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
Too many errors and inconsistencies
Sooooo many continuity errors and inconsistencies with part 1 and also just a bit crap and has a different vibe... The aliens seem to react waaaaay slower to noise this time, and also less sensitive. Characters are way more comfortable whispering and making slight noises than before.
It was also really annoying the way the last one ended with loads of aliens charging towards the house and this one begins with no aliens moving towards them.
Cowardly kid makes stupid, un-cowardly mistakes like exploring an abandoned warehouse on his own with a broken leg.
Yeah... Just not that good.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
That was an ordeal
Just waaaaaaaaaaaay too long and not very good. This is the first DCEU movie I've watched since being brain molested by suicide squad. It will likely be the last DCEU movie I will watch for some time to come.
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)
Amazing cinematography
Truly amazing cinematography, not a big Michael Bay fan but this movie is beautiful in many ways. Also has a great story. Probably let down slightly by the actors. All in all, a brilliant depiction of an intense warzone with really gritty drama.
I did find it to be sickeningly "Hoo-ra" in favour of Murica though. Just for the record, Murica went to Libya and completely ripped the place to shreds and destabilised the entire region. Multiple references throughout the movie about that being Libya's own fault. History is often told by the victors I suppose.
Hamilton (2020)
Just couldn't get into this.
Okay, I appreciate the fact this was incredibly difficult to write, direct, and perform. But I just did not like this, not even a little. I just hated the fact it was a period drama almost entirely in rap.
An immense undertaking and amazing ability to perform such roles but I dunno, just really didn't like it.
Beverly Hills Cop III (1994)
Terrible compared to first two
I made the mistake of watching this immediately after watching the first two. Terrible idea. This isn't even in the same league as either of the first two.
Too many attempts at (poorly executed) jokes. The first two were primarily about gritty detective work with jokes added. This feels like they tried to make it a comedy first, with some action and shooting added.
It's probably better viewed as a standalone if you haven't seen the other movies in a long time.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Remake or reboot??
I'm not a big star wars fan. In fact, I just recently decided to watch the entire series of movies. This is basically a new hope again except with crappy characters and an over emphasis on comedy.
Snoke - awful character, and awful name. In no way threatening at all.
Kylo Ren - awful. Major inconsistencies in his abilities too. Sometimes he senses people miles away, other times he doesn't. Sometimes he force stops bullets, other times he gets shot. Makes sense... Also, his saber skills are pretty weak for an all powerful sith lord...
Finn - literally just there for comic relief. Also completely abandons his lifelong belief system in like 7 minutes cause someone gets killed. At least try develop a bit lads.
BB8 - Doesn't actually do anything helpful in the whole movie. Just makes noises which are comedically interpreted.
Rey - She was pretty good actually. Enjoyed her.
The Lion King (2019)
Once more.... with feeling
Just no emotion in the characters voices. Not one scene actually made me feel anything. Even James Earl Jones as Mufasa was just flat. I'm not a purest or a big Disney fan who compares everything to the originals. I just thought it was a bang average movie. Disappointing.
Suicide Squad (2016)
This movie literally scarred me....
I used to love super hero movies... Everything changed the day I walked into that movie theatre to watch what is undoubtedly the worst thing I've ever seen. I can't even call it a movie. Movies have plots... Movies are entertaining... Even bad ones get a wee little laugh for being so bad. This is even beyond that. The whole point of the film makes no sense... A room full of generals shoots down Waller's idea to set them up then, in a effort to convince them, she uses a witch to steal military secrets from Iran. This apparently proves enough cause to set up the squad, instead of just using the witch on her own to steal whatever secrets anybody wamts. The real jewel, this witch is seemingly under the control of whoever has her heart but not really because she just breaks free with ease when Waller falls asleep. Then surprise surprise, the squad this witch was supposed to be a part of ends up having to take her down. The coolest scene in the movie should've been deadshot busting the shite out of all those walking caviar blobs with cool camera angles following bullets as they split 4 things open at once, instead it's about 2 minutes of Will Smith standing N a car shadow boxing. Joker drives a Lambo and wears loads of bling. Completely wrong character motivation, and just like the film, that's enough about him. Too stupid (not funny) jokes, trying to rival Marvel. Would've been way better if it was gritty and dark like the trailers led us to believe. There's just so many terrible things. 1 star is too high. I'm permanently scarred. I've only been to the movies twice since and both of those times were in the last month. This movie is so bad it genuinely damaged my love of film. I can't even count Howard times I said "What the fuck!?" in the theatre. Just God forsaken tripe....
