Balu Mahi (2017)
Painfully bad
After watching Netflix's 'Love per Square Foot' I was in mood for another international romantic comedy so I checked this one out. It started off well, over the top acting, but I thought it could be funny but instead it's just painful to watch. The lead actress was absolutely terrible. I have not seen this much over acting since ever. The lead actor was mediocre, but the actress really spoiled the film because the story moved forward due to her.
The scenery was good but there were too many continuity errors. e.g.in one part of the movie, the couple run away from the bride's family at the train station. One moment they are running during the day light with loads of people, and literally the second scene it's night time and there is no one around in the train station, then it was back to running during the day time. In one song, the actress was wearing high heels and in the next scene she was wearing flats, then she was wearing high heels again. It was all too distracting and I am not particularly good at spotting those.
The part that was pretty offensive in the movie was when the couple wandered into a church and just proceeded to run around, whilst there were worshippers there. Imagine if they had filmed such a scene inside a mosque? The film could have shown parts of Pakistan we don't get to see, the every day people, instead it was over the top nonsense. I had to switch off.
Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators (2018)
Cute and Quirky
I don't know what this show is doing in the day time section, I would have missed it, had it not for the face that I logged into iPlayer. It reminded me of 'Death in Paradise' but set in Warwickshire. They have filmed in really scenic locations, and I love the cast. The two leads have very good on screen chemistry and their side kick, the "RADA Grad" is pretty funny. I have watched six episodes so far and I can't wait to finish it.
I hope BBC renews it because it is pretty cheerful and feel good show. I am a little tired of gritty and dark dramas so this is pretty much right up my stream!
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Truly awful
I thought The Force Awakens was superb and finally we were away from the rubbish Prequels. Then came 'Rogue One' which was pointless so I decided to just stick with the main Star Wars films. This film is just as bad as Rogue One, so inconsistent and basically nothing major happens.
It felt like re-watching the same story over and over again. The rebellion is useless, all they do is fly from one place to another and don't really do any planning. I am not very good with picking out continuity errors but even I could see them in this film. Silly things like change of make up from one scene to another. The worst was when Lea was floating in space and then suddenly she turned all Superman. Had they let her die like that it would have been a nice send off.
The whole thing with the casino island was another waste of time. I mean, what do these rebels do? they don't ever plan anything. Also this thing with flying at the speed of light but waiting around to run out of fuel? and how do the bombs just fall in space? I thought there is no gravity there? Also if Yoda has enough power to burn down trees, why doesn't he do something to bring down the Dark Side? Hated how they built up Ray's mystery only for it to be actually of nothing of significance. Also Kylo Ren is so one dimensional. He is just BAD. For no reason.
It's really really dumb and it is quite clear that Disney just takes fans for granted. They don't bother with the story because they know they will get the money so who cares, right?
This was so bad that I had to actually sign up and write a review here!!
Lore (2012)
My thoughts
This review contains spoilers. If you have not seen the film then please don't read this review.
My thoughts after the movie: I think the movie is about how everything Lore has been told to believe has been a lie. I think "Thomas" was not a Jewish survivor but someone on the run. I think he may have worked at the camp and therefore had stolen the ID of a real Jewish victim. He may have even given himself the tattoo. The signs pointing to him not being an actual refugee are: 1) we first encounter him at that chicken farm. A woman had been raped and murdered and the egg shells leading from that crime scene lead to "Thomas". He had been hiding there. I think he raped that woman. 2) When he sexually assaults Lore, he does that in front of photos of the victims of the holocaust. A normal survivor would be sickened and would not want anything to do with a German girl. 3) He follows them and it is in his interest to be seen with the group so that not to raise any suspicions. 4) For a holocaust survivor he is remarkably in good physical shape. He is resourceful. 5) He is aware that all the bridges have been destroyed. The German army destroyed the bridges to that the Americans would be delayed. A prisoner at a Concentration Camp wouldn't have known that. 6) He is too sexually interested in Lore. She calls him with anti-Semitic insults and he is not bothered 7) he escapes when he loses his papers. He was probably SS and using every trick to escape 8) One of the young boys had taken out the photo of their SS father. "Thomas" was close by. he did not get bothered by it. 9) He wanted to be under cover and under the radar. He was a Nazis and he was on the run
Lore sees all the lies at the end and everything clicks for her and that is why she breaks those figurines because she realises everything has been a lie and therefore she believes that Germans murdered Jews and she has had enough it. She doesn't want to be part of those beliefs. She is sickened by it.
