Yôma (1989)
An eerie underrated masterpiece
I remember seeing Blood Reign: Curse of the Yoma when I was just 11 years old and being scared not just by its dark, scary story. But, by that frightening theme song that just makes you want to cringe. Its like looking at a horror version of a drama that made you want to cry but at that same time gave you nightmares. The story is the main core of this movie. The story is about a Ninja who searches for his lost partner while also trying to fight an army of demonic forces that are controlled by a demon lord. The best part about this movie is the action that is combined with the gritty, bone chilling horror creating an animated feast fit for a king. My only pet peeve about Curse of the Yoma is the ending theme song. Which really throws me off. Its like throughout the whole entire movie, you are completely captivated by the engrossing horror of the film and you are entirely frightened by its beautiful opening. But then, it sounds like the movie takes a complete shift from the scary aspect of the movie with its poppy-ish ending, which I don't understand why Toho would want to do that. But aside from the ending, Blood Reign: Curse of the Yoma is hands-down the best anime movie of the 80s. I suggest to everyone that you rent it before you buy. Then, you will appreciate it more and buy it. I give this movie a nine out of ten.
Chojin gakuen Gowcaizer (1996)
Just plain perverted
When I first saw this film, I started to like it more for the action scenes. But as I saw the entire film, the one thing that it had throughout the entire film was nudity. Now as much as I know people love to make movies the way they want to, I believe that directors are using nudity for the sake of nudity. Plus, the shower scene with Shaia I thought was an example of it. The story is somewhat poignant. The scene where the character is sleeping with his sister I thought added to the dark ambiance of this video game adaption. For some of the Neo Geo fans out there, I suggest you check this one out. Although for some of you non-Neo Geo fans out there, I can't guarantee the that you will enjoy it.
Blank Check (1994)
Every Kids Dream
When I looking at Blank Check, I didn't really understand it at first. But as I turned 13, I realized that the people at Disney took at Nine year old's dream and turned it into a movie. A movie in which I personally loved. The main character Preston Waters represents a dream in which all of us had. A big house, a beautiful girl, a sarcastic limo driver and the power to call the shots wherever you go. At one time, I always dreamed of being rich. I dreamed of having a private plane with a jacuzzi, wide screen TV, recliner and beautiful flight attendant. But aside from whats good comes something difficult. In the movie, you see where Preston has to keep his money away from the people who want it the most. So really, I think that this movie tells why we shouldn't constantly have the urge to spend.
Do ma daan (1986)
Best movie ever!
When I first heard of this movie, I thought that it was going to be one of those boring movies. But, as I saw it, it was so cool! The script was great and the action was incredible! What I suggest is that you rent it but I dare you to just see this movie once. And once you see it, buy it! It will be the best cinema that you have ever seen. So, buy it. You have no time to waste! Just go to Netflix.com and buy this movie. Because if you do, you will be amazed to see this wonderful movie again and again. Plus if you buy it, buy the DVD version. Since it has trailers of the movies that Tsui Hark was responsible for. And special features too. THIS MOVIE ROCKS!
Gantz (2004)
too short
Now I know what your thinking. You're probably saying, why James, why would you disrespect such a good piece of anime. But its not like I hate it. I mean it does have some good scenes and beautiful animations. But the problem is that its too darn short. There's only two episodes of it and its beautiful scenes make you wish that you could see more of it. This is the same problem with such anime cartoons such as Grappler Baki,Birdy the Mighty and Queen Esmeraldas. Those were great pieces of anime but the problem was that the three of them were too short. This must explain why the very creative Japanese keep everything to themselves. So if you haven't seen this before, I suggest you rent it instead of buying it. But if you have seen Gantz and you want to buy it, than don't. Because if you do, you will realize that you have just wasted all of your money on two episodes. So think before you buy.
Tiger Heart (1996)
T.J Roberts
Okay,I have seen the movie. And you know what problem I see, T.J Roberts! He is the most horrible, most pitiful actor I have ever seen! And for those who dislike karate kid ripoffs, do not watch this film. And if you thought Kickboxing Academy was horrible, heres a warning. YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING YET! And if you go to any websites where you can buy or rent movies, do not check this out. Don't rent the movie, don't buy the movie. Just go on and look for other good movies like The Power Within or Superfights. But do not get this movie because if you do, you are going to experience cinema badder that anything you have ever seen before! So whatever you do, DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM!
