After Life (2019)
Terrible
Season one was lovely. Absolutely no idea why he has carried on with it though as it came to a nice conclusion then and there isn't anywhere for the main character to go without it losing its basic premise. It's really shockingly bad.
The Stranger (2020)
Utterly implausible
Such a far fetched pile of loose ends brought together in a completely inplausable way.
Bird Box (2018)
Why does everything need to be explained?
There are these entities that when you see them drive you to suicide. Some people, the movie hints at it being those that are less than sane, act as facilitators for the entity rather than commit suicide. There's a bunch of people holed up and trying to survive. They get into a bunch of situations. It's really great entertainment, tense and a bit jump scary at times. Loved the film, only the ending was a bit of an anti-climax.
I don't get why everything needs to be boxed off and neatly explained for it to warrant a decent rating.
Don't Think I've Forgotten: Cambodia's Lost Rock & Roll (2014)
A clever lens to view such a tragic time through.
My ex wife is khmer so this history is my kids' history. They're too young right now to be interested but Im always on the lookout for ways to engage them in their heritage. This movie is such a clever lens through which to show the time it chronicles, particularly when the importance of music to khmer culture is so paramount.
One of the most striking/shocking features of this documentary is the complete shift in the lyrics as music is appropriated as a tool for war.
Quite a long watch and I gave it a nine because it takes just a bit long to get to the 70s.
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
Practically perfect
I'm a bit surprised by the marmite nature of the reviews, this was the perfect nod to the original without it being a remake. I loved Oz the great and powerful for the same reason. Emily Blunt is phenomenal. I wasn't blown away by the banks father's performance but I'm nit picking. This movie was the perfect bookend to a perfect family Christmas and I will always love it for that!
