Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Wonderful directing
Okay, okay. Before anybody gets angry at me for saying the directing is good, i meant that the directing by Mel Gibson was wonderful, splendid and all round beautiful. It does not mean in anyway that i agree with what he said in the past nor do i like him as a person. IF you guys are actual movie goers and actual movie enthusiasts like i am, you cannot argue about how gorgeously this film was directed. This film was directed in a way to show us exactly how gruesome and horrid war can be. It shows us how violent and terrible and outcome of a war is and i like it. Too many times movies have shown us war heroes that go through war like as though it were some sort of video game. War is not a video game nor is it adventurous nor is it fun. This film shows war as it is and doesn't glorify war either. Another thing that this movie does is that it doesn't try and justify itself and it doesn't try and explain much about why people do what they do. Which in my opinion is good, because people in general are like that. People in general do not need a reason to hate, they do not need a reason to love nor do they need a reason to do anything. This movie is surreal and realistic (for the most part) in their representation of war. And i like that. For the acting, it's not extremely great but it is fairly good. As this is based of a true story, the story isn't exactly original, but hey, it's based of a true event. Another notable thing about this movie is its pacing. There was not a time where i felt like they should skip a scene nor should they push the story a head nor did i feel like a scene was unnecessary. In fact, i was very invested in the film and wanted to watch it through. As a whole, this film is very nice and entertaining and it is by far, way better than the film "Unbreakable" by Angelina Jolie which i found slightly overrated and dry. (both films are depictions of war heroes and even though Louis Zamperini arguably did way more than Desmond Doss, Hacksaw Ridge made Desmond Doss look like more of a hero as it looked like Desmond had to go through a tougher time even though he did not compared to Louis Zamperini)
Split (2016)
I think i loved it
For the most part, i loved this movie. This movie truly is the comeback movie for M. Night. The writing in this movie was good (not great but very good as compared to his previous works), the directing was great, pacing was steady and the shots were a bit unfocused but nothing much to complain about. But by far, the best part of this movie was James McAvoy's acting. Acting as a few characters and being good at it is already very tricky, but McAvoy made it look so seamless and so believable. I truly enjoyed his performance and it was very well acted out. This movie is a psychological thriller for the most part and i really enjoyed it. HOWEVER, i still don't know how to feel about the ending, hence the title/summary of this review. I am not gonna spoil the ending for you guys who read this BUT when you guys watch it for yourselves and if you guys are big movies fans like i am, you will get it.
Rogue One (2016)
Enjoyable as a Star Wars movie, but lacks as a movie
Overall i enjoyed the movie as a whole and as a Star Wars fan (as i have already stated in the summary title). It has a lot of elements in the movie that a Star Wars movie should have. Adventure, suspense, teamwork, The Force working in "mysterious" ways and hope. I am extremely satisfied with Alan Tudyk's and Donnie Yen's characters, K-2S0 and Cirrut Imwe respectively. However, the other characters are lacking in depth and leaves more to be seen. Now for the negative parts. The first quarter of the movie was jump and slightly messy at times, where characters and scenes just jump from one set to the other with very little going on and very little character development. The two main characters also have very little drive and barely any explanation to why they do what they do. And the screen writing is slightly off. Some scenes just don't work and there are slight mistakes here and there. Overall, as i have already mentioned, it is extremely enjoyable but maybe it just didn't reach my expectations.
Black Mirror (2011)
One of the best series out there. Definitely my favorite
I had no expectations starting this series nor had i any idea of what it was about. Ever episode brings something new and always blows my mind away. At least for the first two seasons and the Christmas special. This show brings out the worst aspects of the human race and blows it out of proportion. That is what makes this show so disturbing yet so entertaining. I am one who loves disturbing shows with an intelligent story, and this show is perfect. I like the fact that ever episode is independent from one another, this widens the reach of the show, being able to cover many topics and different aspects. The pacing is great, screenplay is wonderful and the direction is on point for the most part. with that being said, the third season was slightly disappointing. i'm not saying that the latest season was bad. it's just nowt as good as the previous seasons. i did not find the latest season (3rd season) as intelligent or as disturbing as the previous ones. however, it did improve in the direction and the screenplay. overall, this is still one of m favorite series of all time.
Dr. Ken (2015)
I don't get the negative reviews
SERIOUSLY, i really do not get what's up with all the negative reviews. This show is genuinely funny, i do not get why people are saying that it seems like a bad show and that it's lame and dry. This show is just like an ordinary sitcom out there. It's not trying to be something it isn't. There are even a couple of good laughs here and there and it doesn't push any "Asian Agenda" as many are claiming. I feel that people are unsatisfied because of Ken Jeong's character. Maybe most are not used to seeing Ken Jeong as a normal but quirky family man and that's why people see this show so negatively. If you want to watch a show where Ken Jeong is acting weird and quirky like how he does on "Community" or in "The hangover", then i can get why people are disappointed. But then again, the title is "Dr Ken" and he has a family. What do people expect??? A guy selling drugs? A crazy doctor? It does not make sense. All in all, i liked this show and its entirety. Makes me laugh and is actually interesting. It has proper characters and it is refreshing to watch.
