Johnny Test (2005)
Dexter's Lab? Nah, It's More Fairly OddParents...
The first time I watched an episode of Johnny Test I thought ''Now, why does this seem so familiar?''. Then I watched Fairly OddParents and remembered.
Now, some people are saying that it rips off Dexter's Lab. I don't think so, the premise of the show is that this kid who's dealing with problems decides to ask his genius sisters to invent something that will help him solve everything. The premise of Fairly OddParents is that this kid who's dealing with problems decides to ask his magical fairy godparents to poof up something that will help him solve everything. See? Dexter, on the other hand, has a completely different premise. Also, kookier here, the head writer of Fairly OddParents is the creator of Johnny Test.
Anyway, about the show itself, I think I like it better than Fairly OddParents (which wouldn't have been the case if Fairly OddParents hadn't turned into the definition of loud and obnoxious). The jokes are funny and I actually laughed a couple of times (that's rare, I don't do that very often).
Overall, a fun show.
Fantastic Four (2005)
Where's the action gone?
Seriously, They spend 3/4 of the movie talking in science gibberish and then BOOM! FOUR MINUTE ACTION SCENE! BANG! VILLAIN DEFEATED! ROMANCE! SUE AND WHATS-HIS-NAME KISS! END CREDITS!
Wasn't this, like, supposed to be an action movie? If it was then where's the action? The four-minute-fight at the end didn't cut it. At all. Hell, I couldn't even make out what was happening.
Also, the jokes were crap.
Oh, and the characters were annoying.
The special effects weren't very good either.
It all felt like a big waste of time.
It's never a good sign when you're thinking ''That's it?'' at the end of the movie.
At least Jessica Alba looked good.
The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius (2002)
It's crap. Pure and simple.
Crap. Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap. It's an annoying, pathetic excuse for a cartoon that doesn't deserve it's time slot. A time slot that could be used for a much better cartoon like Fairly OddParents or SpongeBob. The person who came up with Jimm Neutron is either a - no. I'll stop right now. Why?. Because, I'm 14 and this show is aimed at a younger age group. Maybe kids find it's stupid, annoying characters and unbelievingly dull plots amusing. I don't know. I hate it. Here's why....
The characters: are all terrible, annoying, uninteresting weirdos that make you wanna hang them. Jimmy's dad (Hugh or whatever his name is) acts and moves like a homicidal maniac that should be locked up in an insane asylum, and his obsession with ducks is just plane disturbing. Sheen is the same situation. He looks like he'd commit murder just to get his hands on the newest Ultra Lord action figure. And, may I ask, what is up with Carl and his sinister love of llamas? That is just not right, I tell you, not right. Jimmy is not as completely terrible as the other characters, but he is still completely terrible, especially as a lead character. At least his not psychologically disturbed like everyone else on this show.
The animation: is waaaaaaay too exaggerated. Jimmy's dad moves like what I described him to resemble above. Sheen has those weird and sinister shifty eyes... he's definitely up to something. I know that it is a cartoon, and it shouldn't be too realistic but this is pushing it too far. And one more thing, why does everyone run like an old granny? The jokes: there's a saying that goes something along the lines of ''a joke's only as funny as the person who tells it''. Well, as I already expressed my opinions on the characters who tell the jokes, you probably know that I think the jokes are also crap. They all either fall flat on their face, or are ruined by the horrible characters. Which is a shame as there's some jokes that would actually have been quite funny on another show.
There are other problems. Like, why does Jimmy (being the Einstein that he is) hang out with brain dead idiots like Carl and Sheen? Why did the people who make this show feel it necessary to include romance when this show is clearly for small children who aren't interested in that kind of thing.
Well, that's my opinion. You may well disagree but that you're opinion. As for me, I'll be avoiding this show as long as it haunts the TV schedule.
Xiaolin Showdown (2003)
Great
Xiaolin Showdown is a great show. It has funny visual humour, okay-ish jokes, action scenes that are fun to watch and it's (for the most part) well animated.
Most of the characters on the show are good, not all of them, but most of them. Out of the main 5 (Omi, Rai, Clay, Kimiko, Dojo) I only don't like Clay and Omi. Omi is too full of himself and Clay is just plain annoying with his stereotyped 'texas' personality. Apart from that, the characters are good.
Music is also good, with lots of different themes for the characters (Jack's being my favourite).
The first season was fantastic, and the second (while not up to the standards of the first) is also a lot of fun. Overall, a great show.
The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (2003)
Very entertaining.
This show is very entertaining and funny. Even episodes that aren't are still fun to watch. It's about these two kids (Billy and Mandy) who trick the Grim Reaper (or 'Death') to be their best friend.
There are a couple of problems. It sometimes seems like the show is trying too hard to make Billy seem dumb and Mandy can get a tad annoying with her clichéd 'dark' personality. Raven from Teen Titans has one too and she gets on my nerves as well. Still, people seem to like these type of characters.
Apart from that, this is a very good show. It's weird and sometimes creepy. The music isn't half bad either.
Rocko's Modern Life (1993)
Better than SpongeBob? Hmmm....
I love SpongeBob, it's my favorite's show ever. Rocko's Modern Life is also a good show. People even say it's a classic. The same people say that it's better than SpongeBob. Is it? Let me think...
No.
I used to watch Rocko when I was a kid. When Nickelodeon started airing it again a couple of months back, I thought I'd watch it, see if it's better now that I'm older. It was... okay. I didn't find it to be anything particularly special. After watching about 30 episodes, I can say that SpongeBob is better. There are some truly great episodes, but all the rest are average with only few good laughs. Nothing made me laugh out loud like SpongeBob did. Some episodes (not many, though) were even quite boring, and I found myself switching over to a different channel to see if anything else was on.
Overall, this is a good show, no two ways about it. But I don't think it's a classic and it's definitely not better than SpongeBob.
