Acasa, My Home (2020)
Warning; contains animal cruelty and child neglect
The documentary should have a warning for animal cruelty and child neglect. I was not ready for how the family treats animals, it made me uncomfortable. On the other hand the documentary is immersive - I could only focus on the subject matter. Emotional in a lot of ways; I was angry, frustrated, disgusted, sad but also gratified. Life of the family is far from my own life, I got a peek into a totally different reality of life. But the values are very different from my own. It may be that I'm too judgy and pampered for this kind of subject matter to fully appreciate it. Can't watch this again even though I think the film itself was well made.
Down to Earth with Zac Efron (2020)
Shallow
I watched throuhg three episodes and I dont want to continue any further. It feels so shallow and the third episode made me ask, is this the cultural appropriation people are talking about? Bunch of white guys in the Costa Rican jungle talking about living of the land and growing food from the ground? It felt like Efron and the other guy were larping "the natives". Previous episodes were mostly "wow thats cool! Lets go to the next thing!" Nothing insightful or even educational. "Look at this, wow!" "No homework at school??" Next we are ziplining in the jungle. Okay, what does this have to do with healthy living and the envrironment? I am confused and dissapointed. Not going to waste my time with anymore episodes.
