Jaadugar (2022)
Over Melo-dramatic
Even tiringly melodramatic.
When Tvf boys come to Cinema, that too in Ott platform.
You expect some freshness from them. But this is as Bollywood as it gets.
Set on a pattern, and very formulaic. Songs, Love, Drama, unnecessary Emotions.
No complains to the theme. The most ridiculous theme could be saved by it's implementation and direction.
But this dreamlike family movies, turned a little too Sit-com for it's extended length. Feels that they didn't even cut one scene in the editing and have put everything they've shooted in the final cut.
Movie started well, but post 30-45 minutes. It was a struggle to keep up. Had it been in theaters, audience would've been tired by interval itself.
Reality Bites (1994)
Beautiful
One of the very warm movies I've seen after a while, which didn't shook me or surprised me or 'vibrated' me so-to-speak. Rather it kinda complemented me. Lukewarm.
Let's start with saying, Winona Ryder is beautiful, and looking one of the prettiest in this movie (reminds me of my love of Life).
Rest this movie doesn't typically provides any conflict to be resolved nor anything solves in the end. But a walk though the lives of four friends post-graduation.
Although, of course it could've been better with adding more depth and background to side characters. But I surely don't mind it as for a 90 mins movie. Better be satisfied at what I've got, than risking a long movie of not being worth it.
Rest, it has it's unique sense of humour.
Rockstar (2011)
Actually an Emotion
Rockstar is beautiful and beautifully woven.
The music is other-worldy and transitional. It stays with you for years and years. And that's the first thing that hits you in the movie.
The acting is equally commendable.
But kudos to Imtiaz, for superb direction and making it even more than a cult.
Mean Girls (2004)
(2020 Review) Don't Watch it
10 Things I Hate About You (is the best, and re-watch it if you have nothing).
This is not worth anyone's time anymore. Jus one more formulaic Hollywood movie of the 2000s. Can't even bother reviewing it.
Petite maman (2021)
1 hour 10 minutes
Coming from Academy nominations.
It has a fair thought and idea. Beautifully woven sweet story. Short, compelling and able to convey the theme.
Except that I missed the point of it all. So basically, it is a typical Art movie that needs to thought to feel it.
Hence don't expect it to reveal itself.
London Fields (2018)
Don't kno how to rate it
TRUST THE REVIEWS.
Definitely the episteme of Male Gaze.
Yes I didn't see the whole movie, cuz I couldn't get past 30 minutes.
Very loose movie with plots are passed in minutes, but not missing an opportunity of sexualizing the protagonist.
Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (2008)
EIGHT (at all fairness -2022)
Deserves all and more of attention there is. It is a gem of it times. Realistic youth life, urban yet relatable. Great casting with all characters actually fit looking like a teenager.
Great Great Music. With the blessings of Sir AR Rahman. Not one song is a unfit or un-groove-able. Also the placement of the songs are beautifully woven. With good choreography and requirement of the narrative.
Honestly, the second half May* seem a little less from the tone ser in first half.
Despite is a Great deal for its time, and still a Good Watch.
(Karan Johar Sucks!!)
Hridayam (2022)
We're not in the 90s.
Maybe could've worked in 2000s
This is so backward looking, that for moments I felt Kabir Singh was better.
Typical college life, with lazy storywriting of cheating, jealousy, dumb sidekick, male chauvinism, Ragging, Stalking, Toxic Masculinity.
EVERYTHING you don't want from your teenage drama
Please don't see this, otherwise your life would also be ruined like 90s movies ruined ours.
Too many things going at once. Romance, College, Peers, Addiction, Motivation, Parents, social commentary, and a freakin Marxist Revolution! While the movie couldn't settle on any. And wait! You're not even halfway through it.
Second half (jus started)
Wander-lusting, discovering oneself, photography, reunion..
C'mon maan. I can't even bother going for 90 more minutes.
14+ (2015)
Sweet School
I loved this cute little of a movie.
There's no theme, no point or no conflict to resolve. A simple adolescence made into a movie.
Available in YouTube India for free (not sure if officially). Best part is that with English subtitles embedded.
Good watch.
Tanu Weds Manu (2011)
2022 First Watch
Light Weighted.
Of course, it was revolutionary great for 2011. But it has visible voids and skippable parts.
The screenplay could've been deeper and felt like the story is moving only in the surface. Not fantastic acting, but decent.
Overall, it is decent!
No need to watch, if you haven't.
Malcolm & Marie (2021)
Relatable as life
Oh Woweee!
This is genius. Do hell with reviews and synopsis. Everything is irrelevant. Movie is way beyond it.
Conversations like Before Sunrise with the depth of Marriage Story. This movie is for you, if you've liked either of them. Epic!
There's no overtly sexual scenes. I didn't find it triggering if you're an adult and are comfortable with bodies. Then there's nothing erotic about the significant semi-nudity shown in the movie.
Recommended for Anyone who has ever been in an relationship!
Badhaai Do (2022)
Reminds of good-days of social movie
Good one amidst the wave of mediocre ones with social message.
This is as good as Bareilly ki Barfi and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. Those were the good-days of movie with social message. Now it is jus ANOTHER FORMULA.
Supporting cast is really the magic here. And are the real foundation of ANY good movie.
Another good point is, music has been kept minimal and not superimposed.
Love Hostel (2022)
Not Same Old
A fairly good one.
Guess, no one would be able to justly critique it.
As when I judged it, I basically liked the movie overall. But I found it a little beyond realism, and things couldn't be this crazy in a modern democratic society.
But who am I? An elite from the urban. And yes there's misuse of power and organized crime done by the suits. So my friends from UP, Bihar and Haryana did told me that things are really bad and could be even as worse as shown in the screen.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Jus Look Up!
Best. Parody. Ever
Oh Woweee!
What I've seen.
This is jus pure gold. A sarcasm on society and every charade that we pull up here.
Don't wanna give up anything else. Jus watch it.
Dune (2021)
An Experience
1. It successfully created an universe which was original and made me a part of it.
2. It was an experience cinematically as well as in fantacy. But just like it was said over and over again- it's only halfway.
And these are the only things. Totally watch worthy.
Licorice Pizza (2021)
Don't know what to feel about it.
Notes:
*Both Alana and Gary are vulnerable throughout the course.
*Many characters come-and-go as the time passes, but what stays constant are the protagonists.
*Alana had only one good dress, which she wears on multiple occasions.
*The whole movie seems semi musical, where background score runs almost all the time.
*This is non-conventional and seems provoke some thoughts.
CODA (2021)
Love Love Love
A movie, you don't expect.
Neither deserve. But maybe what you need.
A little on lighter side than those grim art house movies. But it is a perfect one irrespective of most classes. I guess, this is the halfway meet for all those who want something to enjoy as well as those who want to feel more.
I'm short of words to express, like they are.
P.s. There's no universal sign language. All sign languages are different from each other. (Wikipedia)
Tenet (2020)
Achievement of our cinematic lifetime
Oh Nolan, Oh Nolan. You beauty.
This is nothing short of cinematic feat and deserves recognition, whenever cinema is general is taken up as a subject.
I don't have words to express (then stop reviewing!).
Just. Watch. It. (Things to watch before you die. Even if you end up disliking it.)
-First View-
I was enraged. I went crazy. What the hell, did I just watched.
I called my friend to find resort for my incompetency to understand our generation's genius.
I was furious. "What is wrong with Nolan. Am I supposed to get a masters in Physics to freaking understand a movie. Which is ultimately a 'science fiction'."
Thankfully I am blessed with blessed beings who eventually can at least claim to understand some of it.
This made my give a second run. Even without friends, I would've watched it anyway.
The movie in itself is so provocative and stimulating is you cannot Not watch it again.
Even after the second watch, I can watch two more times. So is the watchability of this great work. And I'm certainly planning to watch it again.
-second watch-
I still don't get all of it. But I understood the overall theme of it.
Third watch- hopefully I'll get the clear understanding of happenings of the movie.
Next watch- To understand between the lines. The metaphors and poetic beauty of it.
Basically. This is a gem.
The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021)
Left it midway!
I'm generous in the ratings, cuz I didn't completed it. Otherwise it was a Six.
Columbia productions, animated feature.
Left it midway. Unable to charm.
I guess it's hard to emulate, pixar and Disney who somehow manages to create magic which is both for adults and children.
I think, it's a decent one for kids. And if it's decent for them, what's in it for us.
King Richard (2021)
Blunt documentary
Skip-able. Tiringly long.
I'm not sure, it'd got any Oscar nomination had it not been based on superstar players and Will Smith featuring on it.
Jus because, it is just a poor biography. Plain as that. Simple.
Don't find anything worth commenting no more.
I hope they don't make another one showing Serena's side of it.
King Richard, is basically Dangal.
Minus the Daler Mehendi, Masala and Patriarchy. (Bollywood people would know.)
Belfast (2021)
Everything I need in life.
Belfast is an Art.
Woweee. I'm blown.
From the perception of a little kid.
See his eyes, and you'll find the universe.
The answers to religion, god, oceans of curiosity and insecurity.
Throughout, it didn't even mattered to me to care about the ending or where the story is leading to. Cuz each shot was an experience in itself.
And what music. The soundtrack in itself is a handpicked cassette to the love of your life.
"What do you want?" are the discussions to look forward to in the movie. (Apart from the whole movie.)
(This is exactly what you need and expect from Oscars.)
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Academy is on meth!
I'm not sure what the congregation of experts are high on, but this is definitely not a notable work.
Oscar nominations should must be a "must-watch". And this us clearly not.
Again, psychological thrillers witg deranged is always a big NO for me.
Modern Love: Strangers on a (Dublin) Train (2021)
7.5
A better episode among other good and some best ones in the anthology.
It is good for it's light hearted tone and being a generic boy-girl meet story. There's nothing novel, and could be missed too. But as one is in the Modern-Love fan club, it's very hard to do that.
As Good as It Gets (1997)
Not a must watch
A good decent watch for a mundane night with nothing to do. But definitely not something you need to look forward to watch.
The first part of the third was pretty good. It got me hooked so much which the rest of the two parts didn't succeeded to keep up with.
The last two parts are also watchable but are slow and not sure if it's still good for a millenial viewer.
Over and out, it is another feel good Hollywood movie which is forgettable.
The Disciple (2020)
Beyond words..
"Sangeet is not just an art, but is a meditative decipline in spiritual journey."
This is a masterpiece in capturing such devotion and diligence for the artform.
Direction and cinematography is just brilliant not in general sense, but it completely blends itself to the required essence of the movie.
A very realistic depiction, that it feels I'm watching the life unfolding itself. With long shots grasping you into moments and making you a part of it. Nowhere it feels that there's a third perspective, or a subplot. It is just sheer experience of the presence.
Long shots allow to appreciate and observe the detailing and layering put to screen everything. It gives you ample time to contemplate and then re-contemplate your own story own of it.
Characters have flaws too which makes everyone human.
