Resident Evil (2022)
Doesn't do what it says on the label.
This is not a Resident Evil show. Completely pressing reset on a franchise as globally revered and popular as RE is maniacally stupid. The recent FPS games and remakes of RE2 and 3 have so much meat on the bone to create some amazing long form stories, but this show utterly ignored them and a-rhythmically pumps about the same few sets and few bland characters to knock out a ceaselessly tepid "reboot", I guess?
The guy who plays Wesker does an okay job, but everything else is a burbling mess of distended action sequences and glib revelations that flail emptily instead of keeping the viewer engaged amidst dislikabke characters and disjointed, frustrating story arcs.
Watch the original movies again because they're completely fun. This is the antithesis of fun in every way.
The Mighty Boosh (2003)
If TV were still like this, the world would be more peaceful
Utterly, shamelessly, relentlessly surreal, funny, and unique in every way. Two deeply contrasting comedians using the full breadth of their imaginations to create a marvellous tapestry of joyous hilarity that ended well before it's time.
Truly, a special moment in the world of entertainment, and our hearts.
Predator (1987)
How do I give 13/10?
This script is the epitome of economical, staggeringly creative brilliance. They're in the helicopter heading to war in 10 minutes, including the opening credits! Are you kidding me!? Characters and story established in a heartbeat, and set entirely around the greatest handshake mankind has ever witnessed.
Elite dudes and one very brave lady at the top of their physical and entertainment games slog it out non-stop in the jungle against an enemy the audience deeply fears without ever really seeing until well in the third act. That is ball-tearingly awesome filmmaking from top to bottom, kids.
They should teach Predator at any art school as the yard stick of deft, classy, unequivocally entertaining creative output. It is unprecedented and unparalleled to this day, both as cinema and a true work of art.
13/10. Get to the chopper! Now!
BoyTown (2006)
better then the extra
Got the distinct opportunity to see this film in a little cinemarette in st kilda with the director, some of the cast and crew and a few of their friends.
I liked it, thought it was a nice Aussie comedy that we've come to expect from the likes of mick malloy and his bunch of merry men.
Extremely well directed, Kevin Carlin managed to make festival hall (seats maybe 5 thousand) look like a packed out arias event with 20 thousand people there going crazy for a band that doesn't exist.
And props to the extras for standing round all day like champions and not getting paid.
The film itself Had some bits that missed, but a lot of bits that hit as well and were laugh out loud funny.
Give it a go, it's better then the extra, but not quite crackerjack. Still a good laugh though.
